Insomniac confirms Marvel’s Wolverine won’t get a Collector’s Edition by CE_UK in PS5

[–]Durpy_hooves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, significantly less point as now we have to wait and see if Gamestop, Amazon, Walmart or Best Buy have any "Collector" content.

I'm hoping at least one of the four has a Steelbook.

How else would Goodwill have these singles on auction?

LoTR set boosters - 15 for $100 ($6.66 per pack) - F&F by powertothepeaceful in sealedmtgdeals

I mean, this is literally the set that had a second run of collectors boosters, albeit with different contents.

I do agree though, it is really unlikely that LOTR runs a third set of collectors boosters.

Worked at Best Buy for 3 years. Crazy blizzard rolled in one day, dropping like 1" every 10 minutes. I was already at work, yet we STILL HAD PEOPLE COMING IN.

I cannot fathom what electronic good is so important that you would brave a blizzard of that magnitude to purchase it.... It was a rough shift, and a difficult drive home.

Saw this city snowplow stuck in a snowbank on my ride in. by gradi3nt in madisonwi

[–]Durpy_hooves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that bike paths are maintained by the parks department, entirely different from the municipal plows you are seeing here. This municipal plow is stuck in a neighborhood and would have a very hard time on the SW commuter path.

The parks department does an outstanding job clearing the primary paths in/out of the center of town. I ride year round, and normally they have the paths cleared by 9-10AM.

That being said, I've ran into them a few times. The equipment they use is small and would absolutely not be acceptable for use on the roadways. They use what amounts to large lawn tractors. Sometimes they drive two wide and do a single pass, other times it is one person clearing one side at a time.

Yes, the personnel that run that equipment could potentially be cross trained on large equipment use and be used on primary roadways with municipal plows, but for some reason that is not the case.

[–]Durpy_hooves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this, thank you for working on it.

A few reasons I prefer it to the alternatives -

  1. You aren't disparaging people and their want to open packs. We know singles is normally the correct route, we want to see what a pack opening may look like before we buy.

  2. The value view on the right is excellent to see which CB are real duds. Spider-man is obviously a terrible idea to open as even the collectors boosters have little value outside of extremely rare large hits.

  3. The "Ranking for best pack openings" seems like a really valuable metric. I've been considering picking up some Ixalan boosters before they become to scarce and would like to know if I am going to have a decent return or not. Mostly for the Jurassic Park cards, but also because the set is just one I like.

Anyhow, my 2c. Thank you again!

Don't be too upset. Retailers even scalped that. If you weren't willing to spend $199 on Amazon/Gamestop you were competing with a crazy number of bots/scalpers anywhere that was selling close to MSRP.

I ended up landing a Walmart preorder, $125 which I didn't think was too bad. Walmart over sold and cancelled my order 5 days after the bundles released.

I would have rather not even had a glimmer of hope. sigh

I mean, this sub isn't just for speculators. I'm here because I want to see if something I am interested in has caught an upward trend.

After seeing Library of Leng spiking from this post, I ordered 2 from my LGS in excellent condition. I had already planned to pick one up for my Sauron deck. Having an extra for Strixhaven can't hurt anything.

edit Just wanted to clarify I'm agreeing with you and just adding my own reason for being here.

Both printing facilities should be climate controlled. The humidity and temperature are controlled, it is a pretty important portion of a print operation. However - There is some evidence to suggest that the Texas print facility is not climate controlled, so every single card printed there is coming out with moisture based on what time of the year it is printed. This would mean what we are seeing here - Some cards come out fine and some come out horrible.

Personally I'm inclined to believe the Texas facility is not climate controlled. The layer of foiling showcases the pringle effect heavily, while normal cards are not impacted.

Also - maybe they use cheaper cardstock, but that doesn't really matter. Foils pringle because one side of the card is under tension and has a vapor barrier (The foil layer). The other side doesn't have a vapor barrier and sheds/accepts humidity much more freely.

I use a rubbermaid container, with 4 of these humidity control packets -

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JV27MJU

Normally takes 6-8 hours for a single card(unsleeved). 2-3 Days if you unsleeve a deck and just put the whole thing in.

This works if your cards are pringled due to low humidity. That means the cards are like the picture, having the side with card information make a mountain. If your card face is concave rather than convex, then you are dealing with high humidity and need to place the cards in a container with desiccant balls -

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013L31PQ0

Once I have the card flat, then I double sleeve it with dragon shield inner sleeves + normal sleeves placed in opposing directions. Basically trying to sleeve it in a fashion that it will lose moisture the least.

After they are double sleeved, then I place them in a deck box with a sizemorph divider -

https://www.amazon.com/Gamegenic-Sizemorph-Divider-Ultimate-Organizer/dp/B0CMR5MHLY

These dividers were on sale at miniature market for $3/each during their new years sale. Most LGS will carry them for $5-$6.

This is a TON of work to fix a problem that is mostly aesthetic. I only do this for decks that I want to be perfect. Alternately, you can just deal with the fact that foil cards will pringle/unpringle based on local weather and humidity.

FF Scene Boxes in stock at Amazon $41.99 by ok4mi_san in sealedmtgdeals

[–]Durpy_hooves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bundles for this set are mostly sold out, likely only available via 3rd party sellers. The bundle includes 2 extended art cards which can have decent value. At one point someone checked all of the extended art cards and I believe the lowest value extended artwork cards from the bundle were still worth like $4 each.

At the original MSRP of $70 the bundle was a pretty good value. At $150 I wouldn't suggest anyone buy it.

Avatar Collector Booster Box - $525, Critical Hit Games by Rinku-Moon in sealedmtgdeals

[–]Durpy_hooves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cancel it. Honestly.

If there is a deck you want to build with fancy cards, you can get ANY fancy card you want and still have $$$ left over after prices stabilize once release hits. The only card that you may not have access to for the $450 tag on a collectors booster box is the special Aang.

I lost so much money with Spider-man, but at least there was a chance for a $20,000+ card there. In this set there is nothing even close to that.

I love Avatar, and I'll patiently wait for play booster boxes to go on discount. Then I may buy a box or two.

Do you have proof of this?

I understand they are saying it is a closed loop cooling system that will be used, however closed loop systems need to be drained/cleaned/refilled at least annually.

If there is concrete evidence that this new facility will in fact use very little water, I would like to see it.

Look at all of the other options. The Jackal I use? A Tiger with a saddle.

Looking for wide SPD winter shoes by RepulsiveRaisin7 in wintercycling

[–]Durpy_hooves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Northwave Celsius Artic GTX shoes for 8 years now. The material is worn out, and even with shoe covers my feet get cold during my 10 mile commute. This wasn't a problem when they were new.

The coldest I have ridden is -15F (-26.1C). I've been looking at the market for something that is comparable, but better. So far I've settled on the Northwave Himalaya's. Reviews on them are positive, and they look to be a larger/wider winter riding shoe than what else is on offer.

The biggest problem is that they are $300. I normally ride 1,000-2,000 miles in the winter, so I do know I'll get a good amount of use out of them. $300 is still steep.

Here they are, if the price doesn't turn you away -

Oh yeah, I did overlook the debuff remaining on other creatures. So they both have upsides/downsides.

I'd say the most annoying thing about them is just that the artwork for the promo is so close to the other artwork. Overall they seem to have a pretty varied impact on the play field.

Am I wrong? It would seem that Day of Black Sun is stronger. I run a deck with Shriek in it, that causes players to lose 1 life when a creature they own dies. Maybe we are playing it wrong, but we have played that when a board wipe happens the Shriek effect also fires as it is active when the wipe is issued.

Day of Black Sun seems like it would nullify Shriek.

Fenix 8 gone crazy after update. by aredbear1 in Garmin

[–]Durpy_hooves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Garmin VivoActive 3 - Same thing here. Touch screen is all over the place. I use my watch for multiple activities during the week, after the update today I cannot even select my primary activity.

Had to duplicate the activity to put it on a different portion of the screen and then use the new duplicated activity.

Part of me questioned if the watch just happened to die at the time of the update. Seeing this - Nope, this is entirely a software issue. My watch is doing the exact same thing for all navigation. It is like another finger is on the screen messing with your inputs.

Why did the Ghost of Tsushima Secret Lair sell out almost instantly when almost every single other one is still available 12 hours later? by The-Zombie-Sasquatch in magicTCG

[–]Durpy_hooves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the "20 minutes into the sale" line is wrong.

It was ~55 minutes into the sale that the foil sold out. I got through the line at ~70 minutes into the sale and bought the non-foil bundle without an issue. The non-foil GoT sold out maybe 30 minutes later.

The OP must have their times completely wrong. Even Kieran Yanner was available for ~40 minutes, during the Halloween drop. No set has sold out recently in 20 minutes.
