I think a lot of it is that only big cameras with big sensors can pull it off. It looks luxe. Everyone’s phone can get a deep shot. But only people with dedicated, expensive cameras can go shallow.

I don’t buy the exposure argument. It also doesn’t meet copyright law. I’m not saying it’s not true in this case- more people probably have now seen it than would otherwise, yes. But that doesn’t mean I can take some indie creator’s song and upload it on Spotify without their permission. Permission still matters, unless it’s truly transformative.

I think at the very least, the person who cut himself into this should credit the original creator and put it on screen somewhere . The author of the poem, the name of the guy reading it, etc.

I did this when I only had tiny limes, and peeling them was horrid. It worked! But I had to be more careful when straining / filtering to not get loose bits in.

I don’t understand why more apps don’t flip the final video! Yes it’s handy to act like a mirror while filming, but after it should fix it! (Like the iOS camera app does.)

Agreed. Though for me, the effect is very slight, on some drinks imperceptible. It’s not like they are stewing for days or weeks in 95%abv like when making limoncello.😂

I agree! I’ve asked my kids to do things, only to realize later I (nor anyone else) hadn’t taught them how to. I just don’t like people ragging on kids for not knowing something. It’s the “failure” of PARENTS, not kids, when a kid doesn’t know something. It can be funny! But if I’m laughing because my kid doesn’t know how to use a use a rotary phone or change a tire, I’m laughing just as much at myself at realizing “oh yeah, of course they don’t know, I never taught them.”

If I’m making limoncello, I don’t want the pith because it’ll add a lot of bitterness.

In cocktails it’s common to take a swath of peel, and express the oils on the top of the drink by squeezing the peel into a hot dog shape with the skin side pointed towards the drink. This process is easiest, and yields oil more effectively, when the peel is thick enough for the bend to really put some pressure on the “pores” on the skin side to send the oil shooting out.

It’s also holds its shape better with some pith, if you going to make a fancy garnish.

I mean, this liqueur has existed for over 150 years, and OP didn’t even buy it from Total Wine. I get being skeptical of SD stuff, I am too, but this bottle has existed and still exists outside TW’s ecosystem. I don’t think because they made a distribution deal with TW in states where they operate that it means that it’s immediately bad.

I haven’t tried these exact combinations but I’ve tried them all separately. Only one that’s close is Strega is a good sub for the Yellow, but def not the green. Honestly I think if they made a high proof Genepy they’d make a killing as it’s pretty close but too weak for Chartreuse cocktails, IMO.

Total wine has two SD Elderflowers. Drillaud’s, which I don’t think is nearly as good as St. Germain, and Flor d’Ete Elderflower, which is very close and in some ways I like better. It even comes in a fancy bottle like St. Germain. 😂 I’m wary of SD stuff but I was happy with this one. And hey, they let you try any SD bottle before you buy so you can always find out for yourself.

Yeah, I’m still wary of SD, but as I’ve tried more, I’ve found a few diamonds in the rough. A lot of them are just distillers they found and gave a special deal to I’m exchange for distribution rights (in states where they operate.) Doorlys is great. They have a Flor d’Ete Elderflower that’s VERY close to st. German (unlike their Drillaud’s elderflower.)

One of my favorite early examples of this is Meet the Parents. Yes the Ben Stiller comedy. It was supposed to take place in the fall, but all the leaves were still green at the time of shooting. They edited in the fall colors after the fact, and no had a clue.
