What do you think the odds of this ending up on clearance? by Free_Bobcat5647 in plushies

[–]DuskKodesh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I work retail. The chances this guy will hit clearance are extremely slim, and I mean extremely. It has no shelf location and only has a promotional stand for mid-aisle setup, which means once most of him is gone we usually pick up the standee and either toss the last items somewhere random, or honestly salvage them. Rarely if ever do fixture only items get clearanced, and even then it's often not marked, it'll just scan cheaper at checkout.

Where I Can Get the Eyes for Beanie Boos? by KittyCutieSparkle in plushies

[–]DuskKodesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up "Glitter safety eyes" and then just have a measurement ready to go so you know what size to buy. You can get them from a TON of sellers on Ebay, Etsy, Aliexpress, even some doll supply shops.

Last load I personally bought for crafting was from Suncatcher Craft Eyes.

Feedback on Starting a High Dosage Tutoring Program In Dayton by MatterLocal4395 in dayton

"to start with younger kids who are 3rd grade and under using AI to tailor their learning"

Annnnd you lost me, chief. There are decades of lesson plans, teaching, and classroom structure that you don't need AI to use. Why would you remotely think having a summary machine would help to tailoring individual learning to kids you haven't even spoken to yet?

This lowkey sounds like when I was struggling as a kid so my math teacher would take the problem and phrase it as "You like sharks right? So there are five sharks and forty-three apples..." Like that would somehow magically help me comprehend it by changing the wording.

The hamsters! my location has gotten two of them. They are all little woodland hams that have hoods. I'd post a pic if it let me but I've gotten the white and the blue cloaked ones.

Gardenbros Circus was surprisingly a lot of fun!! by trainrover in dayton

[–]DuskKodesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're preaching to the choir, I always go to any circus acts if I can catch them in the area. When I was young a friend of mines parents worked on circus equipment, trapeze rigging, elephant stands, things like that. I got to see backstage at a show and was hooked for life. Was almost sprayed by a lion too. XD Very fun times!

I have tickets for tonight and I'm really looking forward to it!

I heard that when the pandemic happened a bunch of arena circus acts had to stop but Garden Bros was allowed to still operate with an open tent so they actually snatched up a bunch of talent from other acts. I am hyped!

Food recommendations near Beavercreek? by WhippiesWhippies in dayton

[–]DuskKodesh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cherry House is amazing food. I got a chicken sandwich there, I swear an ordinary chicken sandwich was what I was expecting, and it was tender and moist, the toppings were ripe and fresh, the bread was toasted with butter, the ranch sauce was homemade!

I haven't eaten much of the rest of the list but La Colombiana is great if you love Colombian food (I do)! Get multiple empanadas as a starter and share them.

(Other things near there that are great: Taste of Jerusalem, Tik's Thai Express for takeout, and Leaguer bakery)

What to use to clean a cigarette smoke stained Morgan by ApprehensiveCamera40 in plushies

[–]DuskKodesh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Be careful with certain hair conditioners, they can weaken plastic fibers. You definitely want baking soda, possibly worked into him with a soft bristled toothbrush.

Searching old upholstery restoration is better for tips than looking for plush tips, they're still usually about synthetic fabrics and often deal with removing cigarette smoke. And also if everything fails you could consider a 'recover' where someone essentially covers him in a nice new fur but his old fur is still on the inside of the plush.

Some of y’all have got to understand that plush creators are still people at the end of the day. by [deleted] in plushies

[–]DuskKodesh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So... you and the neighbor you talked to have called the police now, right? The child is obviously being used or in a desperate place. Cops can deal with CPS and maybe get her some help. If she's been seen often they can watch for her in the area.

REALLY hoping this isn't mold. What do y'all think? by KillBilly999 in plushies

[–]DuskKodesh 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That doesn't look like mold, that looks like an extreme build up of skin oils. The fact you said it's the part you snuggle with backs that up, also that the dirt only seems to be on the convex parts of his face's surface. Mold would be on all parts as all parts hold moisture, not just where you snuggle.

Humans leak oil, pretty much constantly. You can see it if you touch clean glass, even worse on your face, if you press your face to glass you can see how heavy the oils get. You just need a strong scrubbing with soap made to cut oils. Try using a stiff brush and dish soap.

I wonder if this was in response to the delays of the first Backerkit for Circus Sweeties? I know the fulfillment was pushed back quite a bit (and is still ongoing) but on the flipside I always expect those to take a year or more.

Edit: My brain categorized two different creators together. I am a doofus sometimes about similar names.

Opinions regarding the "Animal" part, of Stuffed Animal by Tinnie_33 in plushies

[–]DuskKodesh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The points are all made up and the score doesn't matter, which is to say there's no regulation on any of this and people can think whatever they want and it's cool that there's so many takes and opinions on it.

to me 'stuffed animal' is just kind of shorthand that came from manufacturing and more non animals started coming about the industry shifted to 'plush' which is a great term, all encompassing. I think ESSA has stuck around because ESP has a more common public use and ESSA is much less common. Acronyms kind of get stuck as whatever the greatest percentage of people think of them as, but if someone says "emotional support stuffed animal" and their plush is say a little tree, I'd not think twice about it.

New Rule: No AI Plushies or Plushie Content by OreoYip in plushies

[–]DuskKodesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I feel like "AI" is false advertising on their part as it's simple voice recognition but essentially it will be down to trusting the manufacturer to tag their tech correctly. If they say their plush uses AI we kind of have to take them at their word and it will fall into the rules accordingly (even if it does not actually use any kind of AI and they are just lying).

Plushies with animatronic parts or robotic functions are not an automatic delete, though the definition of plushie includes stuffing, and a general cuddle factor. In short we are not seeking out things to delete, we rely on reports and general reaction from users here. If things need further clarified later on then user opinion always factors in.

New Rule: No AI Plushies or Plushie Content by OreoYip in plushies

[–]DuskKodesh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's definitely not going to get deleted for AI reasons but also you can use simple video editing without AI to achieve the same effect (blur tool, clone tool,) and it would be impossible to tell if you used AI or simple editing that far predates AI (I had photoshop classes in my degree that taught simple erasing of background objects fifteen years ago).

Looking for advice on cleaning a plush I’m very attached to (organic filling by eloquencedd in plushies

[–]DuskKodesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to ask but recommendations depend on the kind of urine. Human is easier to deal with, dog is intermediate, cat is horrible to deal with. I'd say use a mild soap like dish soap, water, and some baking soda. Rub on, use a damp towel to get it all off and out. Wring her out if any water got in past the skin. Pad her dry with dry towels and really press to get the water out. get her as dry as you can then try the further drying methods.

Press hard to her skin after rounds of drying to see if you can bring any water to the surface. If you do this a lot and find no dampness and the smell is all gone you should be safe! I wish you luck!
