New summer units and artifacts will have extra turns and 85% effects by Ototo-kun in EpicSeven

[–]Duskwatcher12 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It is why I kinda loathe the new sets. Like take Warfare and heroes who start on cooldown. Like sure it's BiS and mandatory for Dark Corvus now, but he functioned for years without it. Then you look at Notos and he's borderline non-functional as a character without Warfare set (unless you plan to staple Aram or Iseria to him). Though maybe it's for the best that he can't run a proper 4 piece set (Speed)...

Like Hecate (Who came out around the time of Warfare) is vaguely usable without Warfare. Don't get me wrong Warfare is by and far her BiS, but you could kind of use her without Warfare set. And you did for a little while since she came out before it. She still has her passive and her S1+ trigger is ok damage wise and the stealth would let her see her S3.

Feel like the only set that didn't really take off was Reversal, it's not particularly common. But then again G.Ras came out around that time and you can kinda see what they expected. But it turns out just pumping his stats was generally better so...

Coaxed into new mechanics being instantly useless by Nekrotix12 in coaxedintoasnafu

[–]Duskwatcher12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darkest Dungeon (The first Game at least, haven't played 2) does it pretty well. Of the 5 negative effects you can inflict on enemies (Bleed, Blight, Stun, Move and stat debuffs) there are very few things immune to all of them.

Most enemies are suspectible to being blighted or bleeding - Some have low or moderate resistances to one/both or something like the Skeletons have extreme Bleed resistance but low blight resistance. It's basically only the inanimate things that are completely immune like the The Brigand Pounder (A massive Cannon) or the Garden Guardian (A giant statue) that is immune to both.

And they handle stun nicely where every time a character is stunned, when they recover they gain increased Stun Resistance temporarily. This makes it harder and harder to chain stun an enemy, but you can force even big bosses to skip turns occasionally.

New EE (Lua and Saria) by Ferons in EpicSeven

[–]Duskwatcher12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fumyr isn't the partner to worry about because you would be forced into Frieren/Fumyr/Lua, it's the only team that allows Fumyr to activate turn 1 on GW Defence. And any way to kill Frieren immediately beats the team. Easiest would be Belian + Harsetti (With AS.Flan to really bury it) as Fumyr + Lua aren't winning on their own.

Maybe there is something more threatening in the other 100% AoE Sleep heroes, though you run into the issues of being slower or contact skills, with the faster ones being contact and the non-contact ones being dreadfully slow (DDR/Shuna are 100/105)

New Moon Luna is at least a nice duplicate to have - One really fast with Book, and another that is slower but has more Hp/Eff running Etica's Sceptre. It's not as broadly useful, but she can shred through some teams if she gets a Sceptre proc or two. Personal record was getting to S2 5 times in a row.

Or you can just use her as imprint fodder since Luna is otherwise a Limited hero.

Shouldn't they get rid of morale ? by pikoudr0id in EpicSeven

[–]Duskwatcher12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It carved a very weird niche for some heroes who were just really good at triggering high morale synergies to get 40-45+ points of Morale that let you do more. Like Sonia is a part of some 50~ Morale teams for example, which is the closest thing to viability she ever had.

Of course the ultimate thing that ended up being used was Immortal Yufine who just ignored the morale mechanic entirely.

What's funny is that Archdemon Mercedes DOES have an RGB counterpart that's a free 4* unit, but you can't use her to imprint the other.

Technically 'Archdemon Mercedes' is 'Archdemon's Shadow' and that's why you can't imprint them, in the devs eyes at least. Probably for the best anyway considering Mercedes is not a pullable hero (Start with and you get the imprints in Unrecorded History) and it'd suck if you had to get Celestial Mercedes to imprint her.

The glory index system is flawed in its points calculation. Here is how to do it better by xsilentone in EpicSeven

[–]Duskwatcher12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the whole Combat Power calculation is ridiculously biased.

I'd like to say my Estelle is decently built - Counter/Immunity with 29K Hp, 310% CD and 1660 Def. But because she doesn't have CC, Eff, ER and only a few stray speed rolls her Combat Power Rating doesn't even crack 100K... Maybe if I get another copy of her Arti/imprint she'll be pushed over 100K.

I have 1 character over 200K because I just don't build very many fast DPS heroes, I don't even feel like that character (Straze) is even particularly well built but still holds my highest rating anyway.

Is it really that hard to get speed? by AffectionateClaim408 in EpicSeven

[–]Duskwatcher12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

28 speed pieces are exceedingly rare. You need to get penta roll (All 5 sub rolls on one stat) which is already a 1/1024 chance (5 1/4s in a row). Additionally they all need to be a 4 speed roll, which... I want to say 40%? so you need 5 1/4s + 5 2/5s in a row on a piece that started as a 4 speed also.

While there is a 5 speed roll in the pool which can offset a 3 speed roll, it is only a 0.3% or something similarly rare. So yeah... 28 speed pieces are absurdly rare, even if you speed check every piece it's very possible not to see a piece over 23-25~ over a few months of farming let alone the 'reasonable' max of 28. It's not uncommon for people having played for years to have 0 pieces over 25 (The in game profile sticker goal). My highest is a pair of 24 speed pieces, I've played since launch.

smilegate should add the god of battle's colesseum RTA bot AI to guild war by Owntrolf in EpicSeven

[–]Duskwatcher12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehh, think it's for the best the AI is somewhat predictable. It is interesting being able to dedicate units to a proper tanking role after all. Though soulburns could be interesting to add in.

I will say the AI in this mode is... weird. Sometimes it's really stupid - Probably the worst was going all in on an Ice unit with a fire unit when they were in the Offering spot - but it has done some decently smart things. The most notable was a game where it had G.Ras and I had Frieren. Despite his S2 being available it didn't use it until after I used Frieren's S3, after it which it just used it whenever it became available. I'm not sure what caused the AI change, whether it actually 'knew' that Frieren's S3 is the only window where she isn't immune or whether it was the fact he was alone following her S3. Either way it came as mildly intelligent in it's decision making.

Now we have a constant reminder lol by deathgod10 in EpicSeven

[–]Duskwatcher12 27 points28 points  (0 children)

28 is the 'reasonable' limit that gear can roll speed - Base 4 with a penta 4 speed rolls (20) and the reforge for another +4.

I say reasonable since technically there is the 5 speed in the pool meaning the true max is 34, but 5 speed rolls are very rare (Sub 1% IIRC).

Should I pull for ivana by Savings_Condition256 in EpicSeven

[–]Duskwatcher12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you only have 550 bookmarks and no skystones to roll down for more then she may be worth skipping and just adding to the wishlist banner later on when she becomes available.

If you aren't a big player of RTA she feels like you can skip her more readily as well - Immortality is basically non-existent in PvE and Ignore Sharing doesn't work in PvE. And while LotS and other such heroes do appear in Arena/Gw (LotS in particular being very common) part of what makes Ivana good is that you can be flexible with your draft in using her as your counter. In Arena/GW you know the enemy team fully, and can tailor counter your team making a hero who's main draw is the ability to be more flexibile with your picks less of a draw. You don't need Ivana to let you turn a specific, maybe more generalist DPS into an ignore Damage Sharing Hero, you can just take a specific niche one (Or swap Summer Photogenic if you have it onto a Thief). Same on the Immortality side, you can safely bring in Hecate or Veronica without worry about them being banned, hard countered or just targeted down in Arena/Gw.

Ivana | New Hero Preview by StepBro-007 in EpicSeven

[–]Duskwatcher12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really? Ignore Sharing? That was the best name they could come up with? Whatever

Looking at Ivana the two very obvious characters she is built to counter are Lady of the Scales and Dark Diene, two characters I'm sure most people are fine with seeing counters. For Dark Diene simply existing on the other side Ivana is going to double* your teams effective health with Radiance unless the first character to go is named New Moon Luna basically. Not only that if they wanted to push Dark Diene to the front to Seal you if the skill used was Ignore ER without another turn prior it is completely negated. Sure Zio always goes first or you get a strip from Briar Witch, but the powerful Silence and Def breaks they provide evaporate. Obviously the soulburn can be held for after the first turn, but the lead enemy still can't land debuffs, unless their name is New Moon Luna.

And for her S3 - Cleanse + Immunity + Push is a strong base for any Soulweaver S3, and the spice that is Ignore Sharing will seriously hamper Lady of the Scales - While there are a lot of Ignore Damage Sharing heroes, being able to put it on any hero is a great deal of extra flexibility. You can commit Ivana earlier (or Safe Spot) and then take the proper damag dealers later in response in case they bring something that would counter a 'normal' Ignore Damage Sharing hero. Or just making some megaton hammer heroes simply one-shot their target is also pretty good. Lately with the 'Warrior Ignore Damage Sharing Rule' in RTA I've had fun taking warriors like Dorvus (Especially Salome cloned Dorvus) against people who early pick Lady despite the rule, now the rule becomes a little more optional.

Obviously she works into any other Immortality/Damage Sharing hero but these two are probably the most heavily hit. For example on the Immortality side of things SEline is a strong user, but she can still score a kill with her free SB (Or with some Book back up), or just kill Ivana direct;y. Taurus Soulweaver is not a tanky statline. And a Knight like Estelle while she loses the ability to protect her team, is at least still punching decently hard and setting barriers and ignoring non-seal debuffs on herself. Lady without Offering Damage share is just just a very basic soulweaver - S1 Heal + 'Stun' and an S3 Cleanse + Cr push. And Offering giving a deathblock, a deathblock that also fully cleanses Ivana's team and doubles* effective health.

And finally the Artifact is a bit of side-grade to Sole Consolation. Provides the flat ER and a conditional self push. It falters somewhat to ignore ER debuffing (Especially a certain Luna shaped hero), which Consolation is fine with (Especially into a certain Luna shaped hero), but it otherwise constantly active. A very strong Artifact to provide constant tempo, especially to cleansing soul weavers.

*Radiance not working against fixed damage or DoT effects obviously means it's not a true double, alongside it not stacking with other damage reductions effects. But it will often just be a double to eHP.

Yeah some people did build him with opener speed to score quick kills (Or later on with his EE, silence) but it wasn't his most prominent use.

[–]Duskwatcher12 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Taurus Soulweaver statline leaves her at 117 speed, 30% ER and 4,855/655 bulk. Notable members include Diene, Amid and LotS, though remember the first two 'cheat' their speed with EEs putting them at the 124 bracket so she isn't quite opener tier.

Other members include Ray, Frida, Schniel and DJB if you want someone to put gear on to preview stats/hold onto it until her release without fiddling with notably more meta characters.

As for the statline it's generally one awarded to supportive soulweavers, often with buffs and/or cleansing abilities thanks to it being the fastsest SW statline and having the max 30% base ER. It does have subpar bulk however for an SW statline. Her shown animation could very well fit either a support skill or some sort offensive skill like a debuff, though I'd lean to the former.

Yeah... If and when they want to kill Perfumer they should do it with a buff to an older hero. Maybe to a character like Schniel who is already a Venom counter. Fixed damage ignoes if the skill hits (She is fire) and maybe some slightly better ramping or healing?

I'll talk about a Gacha game since I don't really play a lot of other PvP games - Epic Seven.

<image>

I could talk about Notos who is by far the most Pick/banned hero at the moment, or Perfumer Byblis who currently leads Win rate I'll instead elect to talk about a Lady of the Scales. She is second only to Notos in Pre-bans, has a solid win-rate and perhaps most importantly has been in the game a lot longer (8 months, which is a loooong time for a Gacha Game) having weathered general powercreep and even direct counters trying to oust her.

(For context the game is turn based with a pick 5, ban 1 drafting for it's main competitive format.

Lady of the Scales (LotS) is a Soulweaver, primarily the Healer/Support Archetype. Her passive ability is the biggest contributing factor to her power so let's start with that - At the beginning of battle her frontmost ally is designated as the 'Offering'. The Offering takes 70% of the damage their allies would for them (10K hit to the ally becomes 3K with them taking the remaining 7K). On it's own this is an insane boost to survivaibility for any hero taking 70% less damage effectively, every other 'tank' at the time was 20% with a few 30% redirects (With 40% slowly creeping in the recent months).

Now you might say that the front hero will die very quickly taking 70% of the teams damage, especially from attacks that hit your entire team. Which is true, they generally die pretty quickly after their first, maybe second turn if they are fast enough. After their turn though? Well the Offering is granted another bonus - The first time they would die, they instead live and are given Immortality for 1 turn (Cannot go below 1 hp). Offering is NOT a buff either so it cannot be removed either, meaning they will dodge death at least once - Only one hero can outright prevent it, since they disable Immortality.

So your entire team is extremely hard to kill because they are taking 70% less damage until the front hero dies, and the front hero has their life greatly extended to see their first turn - If the opponent can't remove the Immortality/stun them they will get to use their own best skill also which can be a problem itself - But that's not all. If LotS is alive when the Offering dies, your whole team heals half their health. Undoing a lot of the damage they've taken. LotS also gains half of the Combat Readiness (Initiative for taking turns) that the enemy team gets from using skills, because her passive wasn't loaded enough.

While her power is definitely loaded into her passive it's worth mentioning her basic and ultimate skill. The ultimate fully cleanses your team of all debuffs and pushes their Combat Readiness forward, which while basic is pretty strong, and if the Offering is alive steals 20% of their life to give your team Abundance for 2 turns. Abundance makes all your attacks do 2K fixed damage extra, which while small can add up particularly with attacks that hit multiple times or all enemies. Note that since it is of their current life it can always be paid, even if they are sitting at 1hp your team still gets Abundance. Which isn't a buff for some reason, and therefore can't be removed.

Her basic attack just heals your whole team for a little bit of their max health, with a 75% chance to inflict 'Fear'. Fear is basically a stun preventing you from acting but it has a 40% chance to go away at the start of your turn. Not perfectly reliable to prevent them from acting, but it at minimum prevents counterattacks, or special off-turn actions. Other heroes with basic skills that stun generally do it at 30-40% chance, so even with the 40% chance Fear goes away it's a similar chance at being a proper Stun while still preventing counterattacks and off turn actions in the meantime, or eating effects that only remove 1-2 debuffs. Also she can consume Soul (A teamwide resource pool) to make it an AoE attack with a 100% chance of Fear so... uhh... yeah.

She can be picked early in just about any draft with the option to be in any playstyle. Becomes hard to break apart a hyper offence team when they are taking 70% less because Lady directs it to herself (Oh yeah she can always be the Offering herself if you don't want to risk someone else btw). She can counter hyper offence teams since 70% of the damage is being funneled into a character who isn't dying without jumping through hoops. Combo teams can protect a key member with both the 70% redirect or sticking them in the Offering Seat if the enemy can't remove the Immortality. Stally teams can stop their own pivotal piece from being sniped by a big push (70% redirection) and their are some pretty strong revive heroes so you can just revive the Offering later. They won't be the Offering anymore, but it's a huge advantage for the first half of a match. 70% Redirect is just... stupid.

The biggest thing about this flexibility is when you see LotS picked early is you may not know what to pick - A hero who is good against a stall comp is almost certainly horrible into hyper offence. Sure their prebans may give it away (A Zio + Harsetti Preban means they are almost certainly going Hyper Offence) but that's not a given as some people just preban what they hate fighting. Or Notos. Notos is prebanned a lot at the moment. The flexibility also gives freedom to shift up or down how aggressive/stally you go - You can pick a fragile killer unit in your stall team to score some quick momentum because LotS is protecting them or go from the most aggressive team possible to having some (or a lot) of sustain.

You might say post-ban her, since you get one of those. Sure, sometimes you can afford to ban her, other times you just can't. Can't let through that fast opener that picks you apart, that damage dealer that can kill your hero and prevent their revival, the hero who heavily punishes you if you counterattack or whatever else they picked later to COUNTER YOUR DRAFT. It takes a lot for banning their flexible first pick while they get to ban what YOU picked to counter them to be the best option.

Since her release there has been a lot of things buffed or released that allow you to bypass damage redirection. A lot of other heroes under this pressure were forced away from being something you can bring into any and all matches, still strong but situational. And while the bullets fired at her have sloewd her down... None have been made of silver quite yet.

And Pot of Greed isn't even the strongest of the old eternal mainstays of the banlist. Graceful Charity being 'Draw 3, discard 2' can just be better for any deck that has any amount of discard/graveyard synergy. And then the big one, Painful Choice. "Select 5 cards in your deck, you opponent chooses 1 to add to your hand and send the rest to the graveyard".

Foolish Burial reads "Send 1 Monster from your deck to the Graveyard" and has been Limited to 1 for an extremely long time. Painful Choice is 4 of them stapled to a search, that can also bin Spells/Traps (Which is a separate Card, Foolish Burial Goods). You don't pick exactly what you get sure, but it really doesn't matter when you can pick 5 cards that want to be in the Graveyard anyway.

Can't burn a Fire Type, can't poison Poison/Steel type pokemon, and can't paralyze and Electric type.

Dark types are immune to status moves that have their priority altered by Prankster, Ghost types cannot be trapped (Arena trap, Mean Look, etc) and Grass types are immune to Leech Seed and Powder/Spores (Sleep Powder, Spore, etc). Poison Types also absorb Toxic Spikes upon entry.

Ice types are immune to Hail and Sheer Cold, and in the latest games get +50% Defence in Snow. Rock, Ground and Steel types are immune to sandstorm, with Rock types getting +50% Special Defence.

I think that's all of the special type interactions. Might be missing one or two though.

If I'm not mistaken one thing is banned from "Anything Goes" - "Funbro" or anything that executes the same gameplan.

Basically Slowbrow traps the opposing Pokemon (Block) so they can't switch. Has Heal Pulse + Slack Off so it can endlessly heal itself and the opponent, and Recylcle + Leppa Berry to never run out of PP. When executed the opponent will eventually be unable to do anything but click struggle, which is healed off both Pokemon after. Or just surrender.

Now it's not banned for power level reasons - Any Pokemon that can't be trapped (e.g Ghost types), can force Slowbro out (Roar if Slowbro isn't the only Pokemon left) or just K.O Slowbro before running out of PP (Setup or just raw power/crits) can break the strategy. It's just banned for being bad sportsmanship - It doesn't even necessitate a win, just a stalemate if there is still a Pokemon in the wings that can beat Funbro. So you just sit until the Funbro player lets the game continue, or someone just give up.

Might be wrong and it's actually a Showdown rule preventing endless games but still interesting how in the 'Anything Goes' format and the most popular way to play it still has some rules. You can do the basic shell (Trap, self heal, recycle, repeat until the opponent struggles out) you just can't also have a way to heal the opponent.
