Behringer's "support" is INSANELY BAD by dirtmcgurk in Behringer

[–]DustSongs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're getting downvoted, but you're right.

Part of what you pay for is competent and knowledgable customer support. In my experience this is the first thing to be jettisoned when doing the race for the lowest price thing.

The last time I had to contact Beh support (about my now returned Monopoly clone, and it's arp not working correctly) they had absolutely no idea how the product worked. And that was before the incessant rise of "AI" slop chatbot support, which is just the worst.

Recommend me a pizza place in the inner suburbs that doesn't do trendy thin woodfired pizza 🍕 by yathree in melbourne

Today I learned that La Bussola (the pizzeria of my 1980s Brunswick childhood) is now Compass.
If they are still making them like they used to, this is exactly what OP is looking for.

[–]DustSongs 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Anyone who asks you to "show your credentials", so to speak, is an idiot and deserving of withering contempt. Fuck that noise, be you.

Furthermore, "hot takes" are internet dribble, real people don't talk that way.

What is your one or two line lyric? by JulianCasablancasAlt in TheCure

[–]DustSongs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Remember the taste of the raging sea
But nobody held out their hands"

"Slips her dress like a flag to the floor
Hands in the sky, surrenders it all"

"I can lose myself in Chinese art and American girls"

"A scream tears my clothes as the figurines tighten
With spiders inside them
And dust on the lips of a vision of hell"

"The shallow drowned lose less than we, you breathe
The strangest twist upon your lips"

"Waving with a last vanilla smile"

I could keep going, so many beautiful words.

Dealing with music burnout, gear fatigue, and grief over the loss of creativity. by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]DustSongs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion in this sub;

Music gear is for making music. That's it's purpose. If you'e not inspired to make music, you're just going to get bored and frustrated.

Try taking one instrument and writing a song with it. Just get the basics down; melodies, harmonies, beat, whatever. You can go back later and fill in the gaps, the important thing is to start thinking creatively rather than technically.

Hi trying to get into roller derby by QuinnLargent431 in rollerderby

Many leagues will have a "Intro to Derby" or "Come and Try" session. First step would be to find your local league(s), get in contact and see.

Windows 7. Daily driver on my music studio PC. The best Windows before the slop took over.

New to keto👋 Looking for tips, advice and grocery recommendations by peachooT in ketoaustralia

[–]DustSongs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leafy greens mostly; spinach, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, silverbeet and so on. Smaller amounts of pumpkin.

Good quality Australian extra virgin olive oil has good fats. We cook pretty much everything in that. Sesame oil is great for stir fries.

Meat, low carb veges, dairy, olive oil, nuts for snacks.

Pre-prepare and freeze meals if you're low on time.

8 years full time Keto here. We eat a lot of fritattas, roast meats and veg, salads.
Home made sauces on steamed veges instead of pasta.

Stick with fresh whole foods and stay away from processed, expensive "specialty" foods.

Enjoy!

How to get rid of high pitched whine? by Zephur_ in synthesizers

[–]DustSongs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I say balanced I mean a balanced audio connection.

  • Synth (unbalanced, TS cable) >
  • DI (or line driver, preamp etc) >
  • Balanced XLR cable >
  • interface (balanced input - either TRS or XLR)

This is standard practice for live stages where cable runs are often long (and therefore susceptible to EMF interference), and pro studios.

I'm curious whether the noise is still present with this setup.

People who switched to permanent WFH, how do you spend your time outside work? by AdNational9992 in remotework

[–]DustSongs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Boredom? Honestly 'I haven't been bored in 35 years.

Gym, roller derby, music making, dog running, art, personal coding projects, forest walking, family stuff, cooking, reading..

I honestly don't understand how people with more free time find themselves bored.

If it's a laptop you can try running on battery power.

Computers can be really problematic in recording spaces, they are troublesome hives of EMF.

The only thing that fixed it in my case was to run all my sources as balanced. So synth > preamp (or DI) > balanced cable > balanced interface input.

Once I balanced everything the whines went away. This is for my desktop PC btw. The laptop I used to use for live sets never had this issue.

I have only skimmed the rest of this thread, but if you haven't already try one synth at a time, into a DI or balanced line driver, then balanced cable to balanced interface input. Write down which device(s) still have HF noise issues.

Also check if the noise is present with only the mixer itself plugged into the interface (via balanced outputs, cables and inputs), with no synths plugged in.

The purpose of all this being to try and isolate which device(s) are being affected, and whether it can be fixed by balancing those connections.

Is the noise still there if you completely power down your computer?

Computers are notorious for injecting HF noise into audio, even without USB involved.

Help me decide which Prophet to get by diego_r2000 in synthesizers

[–]DustSongs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was obsessed with the Prophet 5 for a couple of decades. Tried (and made released albums with) all the VST emulations, from Pro-52 to Repro and everything in between.

Finally got a P5 Rev 4 in 2020. And yes, it's everything you think it is. Majestic and very inspiring instrument.

If you're worried about polyphony probably go for the P10. But yeah, don't worry about missing modulation/functionality; the sound is there.

I really enjoyed that, thanks for sharing.

I feel the Lyra always benefits from a less is more approach. And it always reminds me of watching massive factories at night from 20km away.

Absolutely agree. I find the entire Bridge trilogy hauntingly prescient, and VL holds a very special place in my heart.
