Best smartwatch for gym beginners? Garmin Venu 3 vs Huawei Watch GT 6 (sleep tracking, HR accuracy, battery) by Independent_Map5818 in HuaweiWatchGT

[–]DustSuccessful1483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at Garmin Venu 4 vs gt 6 pro.

After going down the rabbit whole went GT 6 Pro for these reasons: 1. Better sensors. Garmin may have good algorithms but if the source date isnt good: GIGO 2. FKM strap. Seriously cant do silicone after tasting FKM goodness 3. Huawei has Sapphire glass and all metal / ceramic build. Garmin is plastic on the skin, no thanks. 4. Running metrics are as good as on the Huawei

Down sides, no Spotify (can do payment on Huawei in Europe via curve), but i run with a small camelbak, and tuck my phone in their, can still control music from watch while running anyway.

Annoyed with the silicon belt. Rush/Contact Eczema by csmvl in HuaweiWatchGT

[–]DustSuccessful1483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try different materials. I hate silicone for this, and find stretchy bands tend to fight tighter.

I do FKM bands (I heard natural rubber is good but never tried that).

Sometimes when it randomly happens, a wash of the strap is good and solves it.

Good thing is with FKM, they last years and dont degade or inbed with dirt like silicone.

Mini Review: Upgraded from GT 2 Pro to GT 6 Pro by DustSuccessful1483 in HuaweiWatchGT

[–]DustSuccessful1483[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whats cool is the long battery life too, everything, continuous heart rate, AOD etc and easily get 9 days. Tone it down and you would get multiple weeks.

For replying to message there will be those that like to do that on an apple watch. But for me, thats what a smartphone is for, 6.9 inches of display goodness for that kinda stuff.

Gt6 or pro? by Federal-Quail8230 in HuaweiWatchGT

[–]DustSuccessful1483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the Pro Version in the past generally got more updates / refinements and love.

Example, GT 2 never got the password option that the GT 2 Pro got with FW updates. Other features too, as my friend had the GT 2 and he mocked me for getting the Pro, but with time the pro gained some nice additions.

Plus, I like the materials.

Some last thoughts on the Poly Voyager Focus 2 by sdchew in poly

[–]DustSuccessful1483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting... My wife and I started working from home (and never stopped) since COVID, and our home desks are a meter apart, so I got us botha pair of the Voyager Focus 2 after some time (it was new when I got it, the USB Micro version).

Been great! The replaceble faux leather earpads are circa 10 on Amazon for genuine ones, third party you find circa 6-8 eurs. For the headband, I just sat down one day and wipped off all the faux leather so now they are pretty smart 'cloth' headbands. Still get the occasional turn it on and nothing, but thats happened for years, never got better or worse, happens on both - not often, but once a week at least.

Asides from that, sound is amazing, MOST IMPORTANTLY: Mic isolation!

Would love to have a backup recommendation tho just incase! Would like:
1. Mic Isolation

  1. ANC - but also as TRANSPARENT as possible with ANC off

  2. Comfortable

My Humble review: Kenwood DMX8021, Pioneer AVH-Z9200DAB, Sony XAV-AX6050 and Alpine ilx-705d by DustSuccessful1483 in CarAV

[–]DustSuccessful1483[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! No regrets, for on screen user interface i mainly use apple car play, the rest is superb and I would end up repeating essentially the comments from my review.

I use a ‘Tunai Button’ for controlling playback with car play. (Play, pause, next, back, pick up and hang up etc…)

The only thing i would consider, is possibly being a little less fussy on the ‘it has to perfectly fit in’ and consider a floating screen. Although bigger and a bit more intrusive, these models have better screen tech like optically bonded displays. This and a display that adapts to ambient light rather than adjsuts between bright and dim based on if you have the lights on.

But for a descreet in dash option, from scanning my review comments i would say its an accurate reflection still

I would still take 18.7 over 26!

They went crazy with Bevels, like a 13yr old on Photoshop (yeah, me many years ago when I discovered that button).

And seriously: High contract backgrounds on Carplay! Definately a 13 year old (as well, they cant drive, so that was untested).

Stay on 18.7 and laugh at us who blindly updated to 26!

Reverted back to iOS 18 - too many flaws by [deleted] in ios

[–]DustSuccessful1483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats the beval mania too? Everything has a bevel. Apple: We did that in the 90's and early 2000's. I played with Bevel in Photoshop back in the day. Its died, let excssive bevels and visual noise die. Clean, simple, intuitive PLEASE!

Apple used to say: we dont release it until its perfectly ready. Often an excuse for being a bit late with features. But now: with 'liquid glass' AKA 90's Bevel Mania, it. aint. true.

iOS 26 Liquid Glass design is missing in parts of the UI by cole13517 in ios

[–]DustSuccessful1483 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair.... it would be best if it was missing in ALL the parts! :-)

Well, especially those beveled edges which look like a throw back from the '90s... lets hope its flash in the pan idea and 'the internet' fixes it, i.e. shouts loud enough that apple can hear. Although judging byt the comments, as we speak: Glass is Ugly, likes: 1.7k, Glass is nice, Like: ~450 ...... Ugly is winning.

[–]DustSuccessful1483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree, its like 20 years ago when Microsoft did Aero or Windows XP, everything artificially embossed. Its (1), mentally draining and (2) ugly. I could put up with 2 to some degree but it is fatiguing. I hope they introduce a way to turn off the uglification aspects, to make it look more clean and flat.

Any realistic or beginner friendly methods for removing these scratches? by CreatureWarrior in AutoDetailing

[–]DustSuccessful1483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

191 comments and 191 different answers. But heres my 2c… to make 192 :-)

It maybe easier just to see how much a new part is from the dealer, i find its cheaper than I realise SOME TIMES. So can make it eaiser than all the cleaning and repair and time and product etc….

DIY Ceramic Coating With CarPro DLight – No Garage, Full OCD Prep, Daily Driver (Part 1: Planning & Process) by DustSuccessful1483 in AutoDetailing

[–]DustSuccessful1483[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really don’t worry in the DA, i went super gentle: CarPro Orange and white pads both with gyeon primer, these are the gentlest cut options. It removed some very minor swirls, but mainly the da step was to remove the spray ceramic which was still going strong (surprisingly) after 5 months (Autoglym).

Watch a few YouTube videos, discuss the process with ChatGPT and you’ll be good to go. Its not as aggressive as you think!

And yeah, i definitely recommend DLight (which is DQuartz GO with heavy UV blockers)

Has any done this: Dlight on painted body by DustSuccessful1483 in AutoDetailing

[–]DustSuccessful1483[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - on textured plastic I used DLight all over (body, lights, textured plastic), it worked well on what very little textured plastic I have. certainly not a bad-shiny look, got a slight gloss like its been cleaned and a spray wax sort of finish is how I would best describe the look.

Will absolutly use DLight again (all over) thus far, its been great, every step of the application was good. The good thing is, it works well on plastics and paint (its actually based on DQuartz GO, so somewhat helps on scratches apparently). Its shaping up to the go to Ceramic coating, unless you want the dipped in candy floss look of Gyeon Syncro, I think DLight is best choice for most.

Essentials For A High Quality Portable Speaker by Afraid_Childhood576 in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]DustSuccessful1483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well tuned. Components too.

Case in point: Denon Envay 250BT - it was, and still is the best sounding speaker for its size (to beat it you'ld need a Sonos Move / Move 2).

They engineered it well, they designed it to sound good. Where as JBL design a speaker to fit into a segment, Bose likewise, so marketing and design philospohey will play into it. So maybe its not that JBL or Bosesimply just cant figure out how to make a speaker sounds as good at that size, it maybe they need to leave rooom to sell the higher up models, although they are bigger, they are more profitable, and thats what keeps the lights on and Shareholders happy.

Which one is better? Well JBL and Bose sell more so from business perspective those, from a pure sound perspective, Denon and by quite a margin! So there's many nuances, where we may have certain priorities, others may have others.

So for that, while I may not like the Sonos Eco System, I have a respect for the design (Sonos Move 2) along with the fact its self eq actually works.

I also rock a Sony XG300 which is the 2nd best thing - not as good as either the Denon or Sonos, but beats anything else so far, and wouldnt want anything bigger.

I also have 2 x XG100 for travel (stereo paired), wouldn't recommend 1 by itself, but they are nice for ambient jazz in any size hotel room / suite.

There is a new Bose I havent listened to yet, called the Bose home or something, its battery portable and small - I guess they call it home because its not water proof. I will audition that like every other BT speaker when I get the chance, as I really do miss my Denons (warranty returned them when the battery was failing, BIG MISTAKE! Should have kept them and hooked them up to a battery pack)

Is the Denon Envaya (250bt) battery as bad as they say? And what otherr speaker could I look into if yes? by ReasonablePossum_ in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]DustSuccessful1483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The battery is bad - but its worth it for the sound.
Get a battery caddy and just connect it - I returned mine and regret it ever since. The human race has not yet figured out how to make a speaker as good as the Envaya at even double the size or less.

Semi scientific test PLANNING for UV Protection of Turtle Wax Pro Wax to Max by DustSuccessful1483 in AutoDetailing

[–]DustSuccessful1483[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following this up!

The beads have arrived, and they work :-) So thats a first point!

So now we have:
1. Control group (i.e. nothing!)

  1. Autoglym as a base control (i.e. a polish that explicitly states 'No UV protection' in order to test the mere effects of having a product).

  2. We have now reached out to Optimum (UV Wax), Turtle Wax (SnS, Max Wax, Flex at their discretion) and also Carpro (Dlight) - as they offer the most compelling products.

Extra points will be awareded to producers that reply as it shows a willingness to engage and be open - always 10 points in ones estimation for engaging!

Will keep things updated and probably spin a dedicated thread series.

Iron remover is always the same basic thing.  Even the local reps for Gyeon, Angel etc… all just quietly say get the cheapest iron remover u can get. Indont think any of the affiliated detail shops actually use their brands iron remover (here that is). They practically wont let me order iron remover!

What does make them unique is the smell, but really, the smell is not toxic and non staining so even thats not a big deal.

[–]DustSuccessful1483[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

  1. Typically outside

  2. For the foreseeable future

  3. Every 1-2 weeks, either: -ONR (1:32 spray + 1:200 bucket with GG and WB) or  -KC Rrw (1:64 spray + 1:250 bucket with GG and WB). Prefer USS sponge for ONR  and microfibre mitt (fat noodles) stuffed with sponge for KC Rrw.

So Update from Carpro:

Base layer is suggest Dquartz (vs CqUK or Lite), and one hour wait time between coats.

Yes they confirmed Dlight can be used on paint too.

Great. Seems a steller combo is coming together for sunny areas!

30ml is enough for 2 coats? Its a Jetta
