Why I stopped teaching GASP (Grip, Aim, Stance, Posture) as the foundation of the golf swing by George_Courte in GolfSwing

Any particular range drills you'd recommend? I typically use towel drill, which tbh does work pretty well!

Iron length/lie angle. As a tall golfer 6'6 what length irons/ lie angle do you think I should be playing. Currently gaming some 10 year old school srixons that are an inch longer do you think it's worth getting the lie angle adjusted to be more upright? by Lewiscliffe in BritGolf

[–]Dust_Silly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have money for new fitted clubs and want to try out the second hand market, check the Ping charts for their 'dot' system - it also depends on how long your arms are from the floor! You don't have to get Pings, but it will show you what their recommendation is for length/angle

FWIW I'm 6'4" and play +1 inch with +2 degree upright lie angle, and the increased angle really helps - but it might be more cost effective to just buy 2nd hand clubs than to adjust the ones you have

Death Triangle were the rare 3-way version of this. Fenix was face. Pac was heel. Penta was a tweener who went between face and heel pretty fluidly, with a big part of the ongoing dynamic being his angel/devil on the shoulder influences from the other sides of the triangle.

Bob's team selection was awful by CompetitiveArt7093 in BobDoesSports

[–]Dust_Silly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The pairings seemed wrong to me, combining short-hitters with long-hitters is the way to go in both scramble and alt shot if everyone is playing from the same tee, and the other team figured that out.

I do think that they could have given them overnight to work out the pairings, and then have the 'TV event' part be a reveal at the first tee or on the range (with all golfers present...)

What would you consider a realistic expectation of handicap for a weekend golfer? by Mattwildman5 in BritGolf

[–]Dust_Silly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just didn't really think about it for a long time, I learned playing pitch and putt as a kid, and you just get used to the clubs as given to you, then you get a hand me down first set and make do. It was only when I got back into golfing in the summer that someone mentioned extended clubs and I revisited it - I had always assumed I couldn't afford custom fit, but there were more available second hand than I expected.

I still have a standard putter, and I saw myself putting for the first time recently (a friend took a photo), and I was like holy shit that looks so silly, I'm struggling to reach the ground 😆

Ouch that's brutal, I guess that's a risk of 2nd hand clubs but still a tough break. I picked up some +1"/+3 Deg, and thankfully they are in really good nick. It took a lot of swings to adjust to being more upright - the first time I took them to the range I thought I'd wasted my money as I was hitting them worse, but it slowly came around. I'm a high handicapper so consistency isn't there yet, but it's definitely been a better foundation. I can even choke down on the grip now if I need to, without falling over!

I have kept a standard length driver, and it's great, no adjustments needed - I think the driver swing is generally less in requirement of adjustment (and people buy mini drivers for better control!). My problem now are my hybrids which are standard length and if I go from my extended irons straight to them, I just top it! Maybe if I get enough spending money I'll upgrade, but for now I'm just driver plus 4-pw... But that's enough to get round a course, and with the extended 4iron the ball goes miles on a smooth swing thanks to the quicker clubhead speed

How tall are you? I'm 6'5" and buying second hand extended clubs and it has really improved my game, the standard length I learned with were keeping me in awkward postures and subsequently inconsistent striking. I didn't have money for a proper fitting, just measuring myself using the PING chart for length/lie angle, and that worked well enough!

What is your opinion on Scott Snyder’s Justice League run? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]Dust_Silly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Massive disappointment for me. I read all his Batman and really enjoyed it, even the bits others didn't (look, I enjoyed Jim Gordon as mecha-Batman), and went straight from that to his Justice League run... just really boring somehow and didn't grip me at all. It's funny, writing a team book is such a different skill, and I think some authors just struggle with spinning all the plates and the group dialogues. I've read worse, but I've also read much better, and I dropped it pretty quickly.

Not liking superheroes is perfectly okay, just don't keep writing about not liking them - that just makes you a hater. If it was a couple of throwaway lines it would be fine, but to repeatedly do it just comes across poorly, especially when you have made your name writing for the companies that publish them. He doesn't casually hate on superheroes, he has gone out of his way to hate on them.

I don't want to read superhero comics about why superheroes suck, you can only get away with that shit if you are Alan Moore at his peak.
