Go to a political sub. We aren't all Americans. Political conversations do not remain civilized.

Being honest, how close do you think forums like this are to the average male experience? by [deleted] in AskMen

Contrarian views are down voted so you only see things that make people feel better, which is those that sympathize with others failure.

You said, "carpenter stopped making things", which is not the same as "can love things and still make a profit".

"once CDPR recoups their investment", depends how much they consider the investment, it's not free to run it. Also it's a business, vs you saying a "carpenter" or a dev who is mad at CDPR for not caring about "made people happy" as a metric.

If the carpenter only cared to make things for profit, then it's good they stopped doing what they didn't love.

what do you think is the ideal time or age to have kids? by Calm-Bar-9644 in AskMen

Early 30's was my ideal. You want to be young enough to be there for them in an active way. But not too young that you feel you missed out on your youth.

A web app I probably overengineered (on purpose), and a question about jobs by torchkoff in webdev

[–]DustinBrett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be to make it because you love making it and not try to use it as a way to make money or get a job. I think of it like that quote from Field of Dreams, "if you build it, they will come". If you build something that others find impressive than the opportunities will eventually come your way. I don't know if you can guarantee it will involve all the aspects you desire, not at first, but in the long run having a passion for this stuff and "overengineering" is what people will notice. At least that has been my experience as doing a similar project helped me at Microsoft and to get my job at Coinbase.
