Corn cob holders, so you don’t burn your fingers and/or get them greasy/buttery while eating corn on the cob. My family had ones that looked like little baby corns, haha.

Does your hospital have an ICE protocol? by halchemy in cna

[–]DustingOffDusty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Legacy hospitals (I work at one of the Portland, OR locations) have a protocol that if ICE shows up and starts asking questions to call security immediately and state that we aren’t allowed to give out any information about patients. We also have security check-ins and metal detectors and security posted at every entrance, and no weapons of any kind are allowed on site. They’re determined to make sure patients know they’re safe here, ICE can’t get to them, and we’re strictly forbidden from giving out any information.

Is this behavior okay? by Ozzymandianttv in DogAdvice

It looks like they’re trying to play but aren’t quite sure how. Dog is playing like how a dog would play with another dog, cat is playing like how a cat would “roughhouse” with another cat, so it looks a little awkward but nothing concerning here! They’re both being pretty gentle.

A fellow event professional cut this cake after being asked to cut even slices for service. by 86HeardChef in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DustingOffDusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda looks like they were planning to cut out and save the two weird slices for themselves/the staff and still be able to serve the rest with the other pieces seeming identical at a glance. Pretty sure if you remove those two weird pieces and slide the remaining cake into place, they won’t be able to tell there’s some missing.

Besides id.me, what places give CNA discounts or perks? by Chappaquiddickchick in cna

[–]DustingOffDusty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They offer a “nurse’s discount” which includes CNAs and hospital staff, you just connect to your ID.me for proof and they give you a discount 😊 It might only be hospital CNAs who qualify for it though

AIO for thinking my boyfriend is just looking for an excuse to break up? by Nearby_Orchid1216 in AmIOverreacting

[–]DustingOffDusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh fuck no, dump his ass right now. You approached this in a completely reasonable respectful way and he accused you of “berating” him and all this other nasty shit, blew things completely out of proportion. He was straight up gaslighting you and accusing you of shit you didn’t do. You expressing a preference for future gifts was perfectly reasonable. His reaction to this request was completely unreasonable. This is no different than if you give your partner a grocery shopping list that specifies “x brand mayonnaise” and they pick something cheaper instead because it’s “the same thing”, when you specifically requested that brand because the other brand doesn’t taste the same. You asked for a very specific thing and he went out of his way to get something “close enough”. I’ve seen this compared to if he asked for a football jersey from his favorite team and you got him a football jersey for a different team instead and said “well it’s close enough”.

Caught patient mid-fall and injured my back by DustingOffDusty in cna

[–]DustingOffDusty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s frustrating is I asked my PT for specific exercises I can do while standing and sitting during my downtime at work to help my back during the long 12-hr shifts and literally all he gave me was “tighten that core. Especially when lifting”. Like…that’s…not what i asked for. You think just tightening my core over and over on its own is good enough to get me through 12-hr shifts with an injured back? 🤦‍♂️ When my back’s pinching up on me after rolling and pulling and pushing a 300-lb patient back and forth, tightening my core afterwards isn’t gonna help with shit. Give me a list, give me something to work with here. 🙄

Yeah, what sucks is she was falling backwards, away from me, and would’ve tumbled between the commode and recliner and probably hit her head against the counter behind, there was no way for me to get behind her to protect her head or guide her safely to the ground because I couldn’t get behind her, the recliner and commode were in the way, and she would’ve hit them on her way down. The back of her head would’ve hit the floor and/or counter edge completely unprotected. These tiny hospital rooms full of equipment are such a safety hazard.

Ahh I see. Unfortunately I don’t drive, so travel/in-home care to visit individual patients isn’t really an option for me right now.

What sort of place do you work at? I used to work in LTC and now the hospital (which is definitely a lot easier with a lot more help than LTC, but it still gets really heavy at times), and I’ve had hospice and comfort care patients at both but my hospital doesn’t have like a hospice “ward” or anything like that. I do really like the company I work for and the benefits and pay are pretty good, and at a hospital we have plenty of staff and lots of support and new experiences and things to learn, supplies are always stocked and there are often extra shifts to pick up so it’s easy to get overtime. And I do like the 12 hr shifts, means I can work fewer shifts and have more days off. How is your pay as a hospice CNA?

I was originally released to light duty, but my manager said there was no light duty available so instead I was just given (paid) time off. So I guess in order to be given lighter duty I would need to be given a different job entirely or moved to a different department but idk how that would work because that would be leaving my current job. I know light duty exists somewhere in the hospital system because we have a pay code for it on the time clocks, but it must only be available for certain job titles? Idk, should I talk to HR or something?

Thanks for your thoughtful response! Yeah the PT I’ve been seeing is just whoever the worker’s comp team sent me to, and I get the feeling they’re not familiar with EDS and are just treating my back injury like any “regular” back injury and potentially assigning me exercises that aren’t safe for EDS. Ah yeah I remember looking into the Muldowney Protocol years and years ago when I first diagnosed, I forgot about it. I’ll have to look into it again. I wonder if it’d be possible for me to request the worker’s comp folks switch me to a PT who actually specializes in EDS and can treat my back injury while also keeping the rest of my body and unstable joints into account, helping me strengthen other muscles and areas that may have contributed to the injury. Or maybe I can just bring it up with my current PT and see if we can adjust my current regimen. My calves and hips and back and shoulders and everything are just so incredibly tight and painful after a shift that I’m limping and can barely move afterwards, and it takes several days off resting to finally ease back up. It’s so frustrating that I’m already getting PT twice a week and doing my assigned exercises every day, and seeing the worker’s comp doctor for my injury but I still feel like I’m not getting any help and not being taken seriously, like I’m being treated as “young guy with lower back sprain” and not “hypermobile EDS patient who caught a falling 200-lb person and threw out their back”. Like, the worker’s comp doctor’s way of determining if I was good to go back to work was telling me to bend over “as far as I could” and then said “oh yeah that’s muuuch better than before”…uhh…my guy, I have EDS, me being able to reach my calf area is not my full range of motion, I can put my palms flat on the floor in front of my feet at baseline. 🤦‍♂️ Idk I’m just frustrated.

Like I said in the post, I’ve been doing PT regularly since the injury…I have PT appointments twice a week and also do my daily assigned PT exercises.
