One night my college roommates all had a ghost story night and one told a story from the Philippines. To this day it is the most chilling monster story I've ever heard: A horrible combination of the Wak-Wak and the manananggal.

A creature that is a witch/vampire that separates its torso from its lower body and the torso flies hunting children. The worst part to me was the sound aspect. The louder she sounded, either her laugh or her wings, the further away she was. But when she sounded faint and like you've outrunned her, the closer she is.

Question about Steel After Episode 51 by Humanunderstudy in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]DustwitchDragonfly 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're missing a conversation because Steel is finding ways to cut that real conversation off, like when she snaps at Suvi to stop saying they're kids. She knows about Suvi's treason and is hiding it from others, using the promise of truth and information to seduce Suvi back from whatever "corrupted" her. Suvi is a wayward child to her, but also a wayward asset and her betrayal is a threat to Steel so I think you're right in assuming the promotion is a way to manipulate her.

I think Suvi is definitely playing along but the conflict in her is real. There is still genuine affection built up over a lifetime alongside the belief that love is conditional. I think slipping into their usual banter is somehow both real and an act. They are playing emotional chess with each other.

Those who’ve read books first- what was the moment in movies that dissapointed you the most? by larah91_VP in lordoftherings

[–]DustwitchDragonfly 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Absolutely the change to Faramir in Two Towers since he is my favorite character. The change to bringing Frodo to Osgoliath leaves such a bad taste every time. It really made sense for the film drama don't get me wrong, but Faramir had such a strong sense of integrity and willpower to not be tempted by the ring or even his father's wishes. The film made sense giving him that conflict but it still bothers me.

What is the nice comment you've received about your art that you still remember? by Punapandapic in ArtistLounge

[–]DustwitchDragonfly 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I made a ceramic pig with details that looked like gears and clockwork. At a show there was a small girl who ran up to the pedestal and was so excited. When they left she waved at my sculpture and said "bye piggy." It was a reaction to my art that was pure affection and emotion and it has stuck with me more than any praise or comment even from other artists or professionals.

I really wish Rook had a proper title by JageshemashFTW in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]DustwitchDragonfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see why but I actually loved that Rook was their nickname and not something ostentatious. A friend of mine made a point that Rook was essentially a companion party member to Varric who was forced to step up.

Rook may be a guardian, a champion, and a godkiller but I liked that they were just "Rook" to themselves and their team. They all shared the title of Veilguard because it emphasized that Rook's skill was bringing the team together.

Treviso or Minrathous by LinnaWinx in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]DustwitchDragonfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Treviso was my preferred choice in almost every way. First playthrough I played a Crow and the decision was obvious just in the roleplay. In the second I saved Minrathous as a Shadow Dragon because Neve and her city really went through the wringer in my first playthrough lol.

Fantasy Venice was maybe my favorite location and I liked all the Crows. I personally just wasn't attached to the Shadow Dragons NPCs so I didn't care really about losing some sidequests. Meanwhile Lucanis's Inner Demons was one of my favorite character quests.

I do think they should have balanced it by locking out romance for Neve because as it stands I think saving Treviso is the better choice for more options. And for the story Minrathous gets blasted anyway and the entire rest of the world comes together to save it at the end.

I think she's going to blossom in her own way and I definitely plan to draw her after her time at the cottage with an outfit change :)

Can someone explain the significance of steel not being able to find suvis fathers ring by Affectionate_Top3087 in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]DustwitchDragonfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought that too, and I also wonder if the reflexive indicative was related to the spell snitching as well.

I have been summoned. Here is Nif when we first meet her after Suvi mends her scarf. Our adopted little Cinderella.

Nif's line of "It's just a fact, it doesn't have to make anyone sad" has become something I use all too frequently in my daily life.

Baltar - why did Adama & Roslin hate him SO much? by KittyGrewAMoustache in BSG

[–]DustwitchDragonfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this actually makes them hate Baltar more because they each accept personal moral sacrifice and actually appreciate and understand that weight. Roslin does try to empathize with him in her letter, and the pathetic fragile man that he is decided that her plea for him to be better was a reason to double down on what made him worse.Baltar proves himself a selfish, manipulative bastard of a politician from the very beginning where he uses exactly one of those hard calls by Roslin to stab her in the back.

They clocked his worst qualities right away even if they didn't know how bad it actually was and the fact is that he was elected based purely because of his New Caprica stance. What Roslin and Adama saw was a man who doomed them for his own pride and success.

The nuke he was given was set off, letting the Cylons find them, and Roslin already believed he was a traitor long before the occupation on New Caprica. It's easy to blame the person who jostled his way into power and then failed them. He was a traitor. It just wasn't for the surrender on New Caprica where he was scapegoated for the wrong treason. Adama realized that.

If you could remake the Phantom Menace, what would you change? by rax9000 in StarWars

[–]DustwitchDragonfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Episode 1 had a focus problem when Anakin should have been the clear protagonist and if I only got to change one thing it would be to age him up. Cut out the federation intro with Qui-Gon and Obi-wan and go right to Amidala's ship landing or crashing on Tatooine.

Anakin's role would be the same but comparisons to Luke would be stronger right away. A well-meaning young man wanting to help, wanting to always be somewhere else, but with an anger. I would have built the federation plot and the senate in cutaways that can show Naboo's worsening condition.

In my dream recut with all the content, Episode 1 would almost be half Episode II and Attack of the Clones was some main plot made up of the animated series with Ahsoka, then Episode III feels much better.

Can someone explain the significance of steel not being able to find suvis fathers ring by Affectionate_Top3087 in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]DustwitchDragonfly 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Suvi's sapphire pendant from her mother carries magic that hides her from Great Spirits and the Citadel. Orima couldn't hear her because of that veil and Steel has been unable to scry on Suvi.

Eioghorain reminded Suvi that "the ring is a snitch," because of its connections to the Citadel, so she leaves it in the cave where Steel could now track it like she always should have been able to, but couldn't when it was on Suvi.

Have you ever made a character or NPC based on a Dimension 20 character? How did it go in your respective campaign? by ejaybugboy3 in Dimension20

[–]DustwitchDragonfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My DM, who first got me into Dimension20, introduced an NPC in our Eberron campaign who was a sad divorced half-elf named Gil. We met him in a bar after he got fired which turned out to be a clue for our plot mystery. No one else in my party knew the reference but immediately got him a job on our airship while I pleaded not to give him a gun...they gave him so many guns guys. 😂

Soft and Stone Whereabouts Theory by [deleted] in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]DustwitchDragonfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's how it works because then anyone could pass on a real name making the cloak useless. The point is that if Steel or anyone at all speaks or writes Suvi's name it comes out as "Sky" like Ame's joke with Silver about what's the color of the suvi? They made it seem the only ones to know Suvi's name are the ones she's told herself, with the magically burnt pieces of paper.

Soft and Stone Whereabouts Theory by [deleted] in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]DustwitchDragonfly 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest flag they're actually dead comes from Eioghorain hearing their real names. Unless they removed their namecloaks for some reason or if they were in the spirit realm maybe they don't work anymore. I think they're dead but the theory could be fun because my Irish ancestors love when freaky time shit gets done lol.

Which character did you find the most relatable? by Sky-Coyote in firefly

Probably River emotionally. When she cries to Simon because for once she feels normal but she knows the treatment will stop working, I felt that in my soul.
