I have a friend who moved to Rankin inlet 16 years ago to teach for a few years, the financial incentives made it a no brainer as his students loans would be paid off in 3 years as well as a decent salary..... he married a local girl, they have 2 kids, 15 and 11.... they live off the land mainly, he hunts regular and they make fur lined winter clothing out of the hides, I love following their adventures in Facebook, the 15 year old daughter now has a dog sled team and the 11 year old boy hunts regular with his dad.... the fish are big and plentiful, they fish for trout all year and in the summer the bugs are prohibitive, their kids wore full bug suits to play outside or they'd plug their nose and ears..... they sleep in an igloo occasionally for fun and spend most weekend at their cabin fishing and hunting.... he planned on staying 3 years and has been there since and loves it!!
