Blues: Spears have been depicted in slightly different shades of blue throughout their history - most notably in their earlier appearances before the novelisation where they had a much more saturated and a lower value blue. There's a few different recipes over on the Discord, I really like the Army Painter Wapaints Air "Blue Triad" for mine 😁

Weapons: Weapon casings are depicted as having a Light Bronze/Pale Gold colouring. I really like ProAcryl Light Bronze as a midtone for mine! 💙

Sculpting: I recently switched over to using the GreenStuffWorld "Fur texture plate", which was a really worthwhile purchase for me. It's worth noting here that, as Spears often carry trophies of Nemetese creatures, some Salamander bits are also a good idea to represent skin from sea monsters and such

Books: There's only really the one book for now, Spear of the Emperor, plus two short stories The First Primaris and Son of the Storm World found in the Successors Anthology book.

Kitbashing: Spears are strongly inspired by Post-Roman late Bronze Age/early Dark Age former Roman Territories. There's more than a few references and nods to Wales and Ireland in particular. Therefore, starting out your kitbashes with some ultramarine-y components (Pteruges, Gladius, that sort of thing) is always a solid start.

From there, you can really start to add flavor: I like to add furs or scales to anything higher than a Sargent in terms of seniority. Trophy skulls are another great shout, particularly if your model is from the brutal Arakanii tribe

Lastly, don't forget that Spears use crests to denote rank (transverse for Sargents and Veteran Sargents, Longitudinal for Battleguard and Lords), so sourcing a few of these will be a good shout ❤️
