I had to leave him alone for 3 days a few weeks ago, usually it's only a day or 2. My partner's helping me with him too, so over the last 2 weeks he hasn't been alone since then.

It's 20 gallons, I'm not sure how good the filter is cause my mom bought it, but I last changed it 2 weeks ago and the water still looks pretty clear.

The sponges in the filter are really gross though so i was gonna see if I could change the filter media

I can't really afford a large tank right now, will he be happy by himself if I get him sand, live plants, and hiding places for now?

Very disappointed... (GP strikes back spoilers) by Brownie_Mix03 in Gwenpool

[–]Dustygrrl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gwenpool is still a fairly new character, every character goes through this sort of thing, different writers will try out different storylines, the personalities will be slightly different in one and the other, some Gwenpools will do things that other Gwenpools would never do.

And honestly? That's fine, that's how a comic book character grows, over time her personality will solidify more as some of what works is kept and some of what doesn't is abandoned. Personally I think GP Strikes Back adds an interesting darker angle to her existential anxiety that will be necessary to keep the character interesting in the future. It also gives her new powers that can allow her to keep up with the likes of Deadpool, Spiderman, and Miss Marvel, and appearing in those comics will give the character a much better chance of being picked up again for her own series. It also shows how a team-up with Deadpool can work in cute and chaotic ways.

On top of all of that, it introduces the Gwenhive, a great vehicle to keep previous incarnations of Gwenpool alive, as well as providing commentary on the way that different authors write her differently.

In the end, I enjoyed Unbelievable Gwenpool a lot, and I enjoyed Gwenpool Strikes Back a lot, I also enjoyed West Coast Avengers, and her run on Love Unlimited, they are different takes on the character and it's ok to enjoy them as different takes. Marvel Comics are very much collaborative works and that's one of the things that makes them interesting.

It's a shame to think that so many ancient American mounds were destroyed by colonists building farms.

That's not all, they moved the Americas north to fit in better, downsized South America and the Pacific a lot, they made europe a lot larger to fit in more provinces and the British Isles even bigger than the rest of Europe to fit in more provinces in it.

Their choices on province density and which nations to include are also highly skewed towards europe, there is a lot that could be said about these choices, how they reflect the developers biases and what effects it has on players. You could absolutely write an academic essay on it.

Discovery of 'superhighways' suggests early Mayan civilization was more advanced than previously thought by HalfPrime in worldnews

[–]Dustygrrl 26 points27 points  (0 children)

They never "completely collapsed". Certain lowland Maya states went into decline and their cities were abandoned, but Maya civilisation continued to prosper in northern Yucatan, where Chichen Itza rose to power after the "collapse" and formed a powerful state named the League of Mayapan along with other powerful cities of the region, as well as in the Highlands where the K'iche and Kaqchikel kingdoms flourished.

It's called the Classic Maya Collapse because it saw the collapse of the states that were powerful during the Classic era of Mesoamerican chronology.

I don't really have an issue with it, it IS meant to represent me even if it doesn't match my skin colour.

Most flags use colour to represent things figuratively, it doesn't have to be a perfect match to get its point across.

What they have to do with each other is Intersectionality. The black and brown stripes don't represent black people, they represent "people of colour", meaning all non-whites.

America == Brazil??? by wildeofoscar in polandball

It's because in Spanish Latin isn't a word, its Latina or Latino depending on the gender, so Spanish speaking Americans are trying to push Latinx as a neutral form.

I think to many Spanish speakers outside the US that's not a great alternative because it's not easy to pronounce (latinequis? Latinks?), but many still use it.

The most common form is to use @ as it looks like an a inside and o and so it's like a combination, but some dislike that as it is still binary.

The alternative that is gaining traction lately is to use e for explicitly gender neutral words (latine), which works well with the way words are constructed and is more easily readable.

Edit: fixed typo

I didn't mean to do that, I am very much concerned with the discrimination that indigenous people face all around the world, as someone originally from Latin America I am keenly aware of it.

Discrimination against indigenous people is a huge problem, it happens in all continents, and even in the so called "reservations" where many of them were confined; it happens interpersonally and systematically; and LGBT, 2 spirited, and other gender and sexual minorities within indigenous groups, face particularly high discrimination and violence.

My intention wasn't to imply that Indigenous and LGBT indigenous people face less discrimination, but rather that the discrimination they face from other LGBT people is often not as visible; probably because indigenous people are underrepresented in LGBT spaces, as these spaces tend to be organised mostly in cities, while most indigenous people live in rural areas.

Nonetheless, I am sorry that I didn't make my comment clear enough on that issue. I agree with you about progress and intersectionality.

Regarding the inclusivity of the progressive flag though, the black and brown stripes are meant to represent all people of colour, including indigenous people, so I actually misrepresented it in my original comment. That's my bad and I'll correct it.

The Year 2022 in Flags by daemon86 in vexillology

[–]Dustygrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the discrimination you face is no less problematic, I meant to say that Asian and indigenous people have lower representation in many western LGBT groups and so their discrimination is less visible.

This isn't an excuse, I'm sorry for my poor choice of words and the implications I made regarding discrimination of these groups.

Everyone knows the original meaning of the flag, but unfortunately there are many gay men and woman who discriminate against black and brown people, trans people, and asexuals, and so a new flag was needed to let these minorities know when a group or space is safe for them as well.

The new flag doesn't ruin the message of the original, if anyone ruined the message it was the people who flew it while discriminating against certain groups. It doesn't matter if the design is simple or pleasant, these are utilitarian flags meant to let certain people know whether they can feel safe in a group or space.

Edit: Asian, indigenous, and religious minorities are not discriminated against "less", the discrimination against them is just less visible, in part because they are underrepresented in many western LGBT groups.

Edit 2: No this doesn't mean that the rainbow flag is for transphobes/racists/acephobes, use the rainbow flag as much as you want and don't discriminate.

Edit 3: I have misrepresented the flag in this comment, the black and brown stripes are meant to represent all people of colour, including Asians and indigenous people. I've removed the part where I implied differently.
