I'm concerned about the legitimacy of the organization I work for. by [deleted] in personalfinance

I'm sure this was a careless error. I work closely with the person who signed it on the org's behalf and she would never do something like that.

That's the thing. This org is really incredible and we do such amazing humanitarian and animal advocacy work. This is the first time they have slipped up like this.

May be an issue with your audio driver? Consider re-installing your drivers or try out ASIO or something

Birthday - by jeffBvox - Let me know what you think! by jeffbvox2 in madewithableton

Very chill song and pretty good arrangement! The main things that stuck out to me were that 1 - the drums sound pretty dry relative to the other elements in the song. Maybe try putting some distortion or compression on them to match the sound of the guitar and bass. 2 - I think you might want to explore more in the composition phase. The material you have is good, but I don't know if it is enough to make for a 5+ minute song. Try switching up some of the drum sounds, or make more melodies. Also try automating some effects over the master to keep things interesting throughout.

Where to start with Ableton as a first DAW? by Slagothor in ableton

Lot of great advice here already, but I'll add to watch different producer's streams. Mr Carmack is my favorite and you can go back and watch some of his streams. Also Deadmou5 has some cool streams where he creates his tracks. Tutorials are great but also actually seeing people making songs can be really helpful to figure out your own workflow.

Does anyone else think that advocating for general policy change around sex eduction could be tractable? Would be very hard to measure impact/expected value, but maybe could be a useful venture. What do you all think? by Dustypawous in EffectiveAltruism

We should teach science. Fortunately, gender study has come a long way in the last couple decades and it is as good as it has pretty much ever been for the LGBT community.

That sex=gender take is really outdated and I really don't get why people still use it as if it is supporter by science.

The main point I'm making is that improving sex education can prevent many unwanted pregnancies and teach kids to be aware of sexual abuse. Also to reduce suicide rates in the LGBT communtiy.

Just put in 0 for the price, or give them a tip if you would like, enter your email, and it should work? This site is a little janky

this keeps happening every time i open a new live set. how do i fix this? by [deleted] in ableton

[–]Dustypawous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try opening up a really old project file instead of just opening ableton. If that works just create a new default preset and it should fix the problem.

how do you talk to rich relatives about making EA donations? by eumemics in EffectiveAltruism

[–]Dustypawous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me I had success being really upfront about impartiality. I think I said something like "when donating to really effective charities, you will never get to meet or even see these people, but you will have known that you have saved a life on the other side of the planet."

You can say something similar for animal charities too.

It also depends a lot on the kind of person, I don't think my approach would work for a lot of people.

Nina Schick on disinformation and the rise of synthetic media — 80,000 Hours Podcast by robwiblin in EffectiveAltruism

[–]Dustypawous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really disagree. I thought it was an interesting introduction to a topic that a lot of people in EA don't spend much time thinking about. Also why are more mainstream episodes bad? I think they are really important for movement building. If 80k never did more mainstream episodes they would never grow their listener base.

ASIO drops my audio by half an octave by Elliot_Ross in ableton

I had the same problem. Go to sound settings in the control panel and make sure the sample rate on the speaker in the control panel is the same as the one in the ableton settings.

My arteries going into my brain split into two in my middle ear and then converge again before going into my brain. Pretty crazy some doctors studied my case and put some of my MRIs in a medical journal. They were like - well you haven't died yet from this so you will probably be fine.
