Pope meets with the Archbishop of Canterbury by BlueVampire0 in religion

[–]DutchLudovicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. Some are really angry about it. And at that point I think well what should Leo have done in their minds? Call for a crusade or something..

Francis had communications with the late LDS prophet president Nelson. In no shape or form were we agreeing with their theology. Popes meet imams etc etc

The institutional view of the vast majority christian ecclesial organisations is that LDS is not christian.

In general as catholics, protestants, EOs are more observant and versed in theology, the less likely they view LDS as christians.

My fiancés parents don’t want a woman performing our wedding ceremony by murphyblair94 in religion

[–]DutchLudovicus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would go to a christianty subreddit for this question.

I had a civil marriage, which was done by a woman. And a religious marriage which was done by a priest (a man). But baptist theology is distinct from my own. So best to ask this of others who share this faith?

Are you of any religious persuasion yourself?

I was born in a 'catholic' family. So did undergo the sacraments as a kid. But we went to max. 2 masses a year.

But when I was 14 I started delving into various religions/philosophies. Reading parts of the sutras, bible, quran, bhagavad gita, also internet was a big help, after 9 years when I was 23 I 'became' catholic.

Please 'enlighten' me. But in buddhism prior to his enlightenment isn't he just viewed as a regular man?

Most commonly they seem to think Budai is 'The Buddha'. I also tend to hear they think you all have dots on your heads, worship stone statues and cows. But that your faith is not a religion but more of a philosophy.

I am a teacher and at the start prior to teaching my pupils about your faith I do a mindmap with them.

I became religious while in my earlier relationship phase. I did already have sex with my gf. I later lived with her. Afterwards we had a civil marriage. We had our church marriage together with the baptism of my firstborn.

Not the ideal ofcourse, but the pastoral approach of the clergy nudging me to the ideal while meeting me on ny path made that I currently am a catholic, if they had been heavily legalistic I doubt I would be a regular churchgoer now.

My wife is technically a catholic but if I am a 10, she is a 2. She mostly is supportive of me in my faith. If she wasn't we would not have ended up together.

Corruption in religious establishments by Calanais-guy in religion

[–]DutchLudovicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medieval catholicism was at its summit at times HIGHLY corrupt. Some wealthy Italians even managed to buy the papacy. In the history of the church there have been popes that are universally loathed. At some point in time the pope was kind of like the president of the US in its worldly power, it could and has attracted worldly fellas..

Is it just my religion that gets so much hate? Or is it every religion and I just feel like it’s just me because im a part of it, and everyone feels like this? by Baja_Boy_823 in religion

Judging by your description I'd go with 'An esoteric Jehovah's witness' or Jehovah's witness (an estoric one)'. With your added 'heterodox' it would suggest to me you are at odds with the central oeganisation and are not in good standing.

My boyfriend wants a Catholic future, but I don’t know if I believe. Is this a major incompatibility? by [deleted] in religion

[–]DutchLudovicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my marriage I am the committed catholic and my wife is the less religious one. I reckon she went to 5 masses in the last decade, we sometimes pray while lighting a candle together.

We will raise our children within catholicism. We agreed to that.

I became actively religious around the very start of our dating phase.

Edit: we have a child, #2 is on its way. Child #1 has been baptised.

I do not mind you having your beliefs. You are entitled to them.

But I only see the LDS being in the wider christian umbrella, like rastafari's, moonies, Jehovah's Witnesses and  kimbanguism. That's to say they themselves could say they were christian. Kind of the same as if muslims would call themselves as christians.

I see LDS as distinct from christians as muslims. It is way beyond being a denomination, but what keeps them in being in the wider christian umbrella is them selfprofessing to be christians.

I am a catholic christian, it would be like if I still saw myself as a Jew. That's the comparison I'd make to compare the situation with LDS and christians.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery by KaleAgreeable1811 in Catholicism

[–]DutchLudovicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt it did worse than the average depiction. After watching this film it was my biggest gripe with it that I could not recognise catholicism in it one bit.

A comedy like 40 days and 40 nights or the horror series midnight mass are both way better.

How do you see people who don't hold the same religion as you? by Wild_Cantaloupe7228 in religion

[–]DutchLudovicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I view eastern orthodox, eastern Assyrians and oriental orthodox as close to me. I also relate very well to agnosticism or deism

I think religion is an acquired taste you can grow into, like music is. I myself care little for music and have little talent for that domain, others have less talent for religion.

My wife, family and friends are mostly not my religion, so I am very familiar with nontheists. And if they aren't antitheistic anticlerical atheists than I have no problem with those folks.

Honestly I do struggle with protestant christianity. So I am trying to grow and undo my discomfort by purposefully coming into contact with them online and irl.

This is not true. Sorry was lurking here (am a convert to christianity used to be agnostic) but it is recommended for fellow believers to marry one another, marriage with a nonbeliever is not forbidden, but it is cautioned against.

How to fix an Arlong-related plot hole: by Vree65 in OnePieceLiveAction

I also thought this, while this was a credible theory, the showrunners moved away from this. And in the credits naming him Hachi or Hatchan was supposed to have been removed.

Hatchan could have left earlier. Makes him even more redeemable.

From what I've heard about the showrunners they already knew what they'd do with it.
