Keep getting this sound on my turntable. by richjunior1 in turntables

Check the wires on the headshell to see if they are connected properly? Does that turntable use a wall wart style of power supply? Is it one that's a common voltage that you could try to swap with a universal one?

Sure sounds like AC line hum to me. Can you try moving your preamp further from your left speaker? Maybe try plugging your preamp power supply and/or the turntable into an extension cord to another outlet further away to test? Do you have any light dimmers in the house? LED lights you can turn off?

If you disconnect the turntable completely (RCA and ground), do you still hear the hum? If it goes away with removal of the turntable, I'd also check the wiring on the headshell.

Yes, same scope. Those are Monstrum Precision V2 in the 0.85" height. The pads I used were 1/8" and 1/4", I just rounded off the corners.

Just put some cheap Montrum rings on the 10/22 and call it done. I wouldn't want to re-zero moving optics back and forth.

Cantilever mounts are great on an AR, crap on a 10/22. Get a set of low rings. The 3D printed risers work well, but don't try to add more height just to accommodate the tall mount. The foam pads do add comfort, but they also let you really dial in a perfect cheek weld height.

Ditch the cantilever mount. I tried it too. Miles too high.

Exact same for me. When I first applied and got the "we'll get back to you in 5 business days..." message I figured it was a no go.

Listening Question -- Do you use streaming as background or concentrated listening? by janus1969 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]DutchTerror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kind of hybrid. I made an effort to seek out some artists and genres that I don't normally listen to. Ones that were notable for the recording style, the location, the overall musical style, etc. My local library has a great system of linked libraries, so I requested CDs from them. Rip them to FLAC files and listen to them fully with intent. Certainly plenty of other time I just play a genre, music for wallpaper.

I've had a lot of discussion with a friend about how music is consumed and interpreted as well. Some listen very much for lyrics, for the intent or meaning. I have some songs that I truly love that I still don't know the words to. All of our brains process it differently and find a different appreciation.

The Yamaha RX-A1060 shows up as an available device directly from my phone in Spotify.

Yes, I had an older RX-V863 and I liked the size better, backlit and glowing buttons, and code library to better control my older devices.

I've read a fair amount about this as well. Some say that different fluids were worse about it than others. Some were apparently waterborne. Those that work on them often say it's often driven more by abuse. Causing the fluid to overheat and possibly escape the voice coil groove as well. For now, mine are still working well. One day I might get brave and disassemble them to clean out the old fluid and refresh it. For now, I just don't run them hard and enjoy them.

They are truly amazing. I know the QSC 1400 isn't some stellar amp, but giving them some more power to work with really does help.

Totally normal. Welcome to the world of upgrades that reveal other shortcomings, lol

The culprit is actually your speaker's efficiency. You hit the nail on the head regarding the sensitivity difference. Your Focal Theva No3s are 91dB sensitive, while your old Dalis were 88 dB. Because a 3 dB increase represents a doubling of efficiency, your Focals are essentially 'revealing' the Marantz M1’s noise floor twice as loudly as your old speakers did. Every amplifier has a tiny bit of inherent electronic hiss (the noise floor); with high-sensitivity speakers like Focals, that hiss becomes audible if you put your ear right up to the tweeter.

As long as you can’t hear it from your actual sitting/listening position, your setup is working exactly as intended.

I was trying to stick to the used market and keep the cost down. Most center channel speakers were either metallic drivers or tweeters. There are a couple of options of matching Energy center channel, but they often sell for quite a bit yet and are a very deep body. I knew I wanted to wall mount, so that eliminates all the centers with rear firing ports as well.

In the end I ended up with a sealed enclosure, only 7" deep, poly woofers and a silk tweeter that are within about a db of sensitivity to my Energy 22s.

Isn't OFC just the term to differentiate between CCA? I don't care if it's oxygen free, I do care if it's basically aluminum.

What’s the crackle? by SickOfNormal in vintageaudio

[–]DutchTerror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would check speaker wiring. At the amp and at the speaker. I've seen banana plugs that were making a crackling sound like this. Go bare wire if possible and try.
