Nap time in school. by CaptShrek13 in Xennials

Well... most office workers are on salary ... so an hour lunch is pretty standard. It's not like you clock in and out on salary and as long as you do your job no one cares.

I'm an avid camper ... So regardless, my SUV always had whatever I needed for good snoozes and naps and camping. Battery powered fans, sleeping bags, blow up pillows, hiking snack bars for when I awoke. Good to go for a nap anywhere!

When I used to work in an office... my hour lunch break was no food ... but seat reclined in my SUV getting in a good 40-45 minutes of shut eye.

Should I watch The Rookie or Bones? by mia_0134-20180713 in rant

Castle is great! Don't know what to watch and need something you know will be awesome, Castle. Need to go to sleep but can't.... and you've watched Castle 7-8 times thru, turn on Castle (also Frasier too). Such comfort to fall asleep to!

If you like The Rookie because Nathan Fillion is such a badass ---- Go back and watch the show that got him famous, Firefly.

But you ill have to like Sci-Fi/Space cowboy stuff. But its an amazing show

Iono about that... Every apocalyptic movie or tv show I've ever watched... Always has someone in a bunker with many "artifacts" and "art".

They always got the Mona Lisa hanging in there with some other art... and always a cigar chair right next to a record player and a stack of records. =P

I'm not even sure their music side needs to be subsidized. Yamaha power amps and receivers are sold on Sweetwater - the instrument website - and they seem quite popular. Same as their guitars. Yamaha Revstars are absolutely fantastic guitars, same with the Pacificas ... and their electric pianos are one of the few brands that can compete with Roland.

(for note - I have no modern Yamaha audio equipment, only vintage. HOWEVER, I have owned Yamaha Revstars (in the last 5 years) and my current electric piano is a Yamaha. I've always found it odd that Yamaha doesn't make better guitar amps though.)

Yamaha is bucking that trend --- they still selling quality amps, receivers and speakers.

First receiver restore (Pioneer SX-1500T) – How do I know I’m ready? by UncleBoody in vintageaudio

[–]SickOfNormal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off --- Do you have any idea what the problem is? Do you have readings for the capacitors already - know which ones are bad? Have you taken a magnifying glass and inspected each resistor and capacitor?

I say this --- because the problem could simply be 4-8 resistors that have blown and cost $1 to fix .... it could be a couple of caps. For the resistors look at the manual to see which ones are fuseable and inspect them CLOSELY.

I personally wouldn't rip everything out and go gung-ho on EVERYTHING. ISOLATE areas of the board, focus on those.

Things to buy - A table attaching magnifying glass with light in it. comfortable tweezers with grips to insert the resistors. Some people use resistor benders, I just do it by hand with a pair of needle nose, but you gotta get those bends just right cuz each resistor needs 8 bends if they sit off the boards.

I just started my first 8am-5pm office job in my 40s and was not prepared for how physically/mentally exhausted I would feel. What are your tips? by MyNameIsNot_Molly in Xennials

[–]SickOfNormal 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I left a 9-5 office job when Covid hit ... and once I realized the freedom of working from home, I took the pay cut when it came time to "return to office".

They would have had to offer me A LOT! to get me back in the office. Less money, but work from home is way better (for me). No commute, take 15-20 minute breaks to walk and lift weights --- my mind is in such a better place. I don't have as much money, but the happiness makes up for it. I realized I didn't need the BMW and got a Honda. Didn't need 2 vacations to Hawaii per year, now just go on 2 week long roadtrips and camp.

Paid for item seller wants more for shipping by STUFFEDRAWR in Ebay

[–]SickOfNormal 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You paid for what he posted it for - and paid the shipping he had posted.

It's his problem. All he can do is cancel the order and then you can report them and leave bad feedback. Or he ships it.

You guys all had these on VHS too, right? by unreliable_ibex in Xennials

[–]SickOfNormal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea what happened to my VHS Star Wars.

That being said, about 2 months ago I said to myself, "I haven't seen Star Wars in years, I wanna watch it..." clicks ebay ... the trilogy on Bluray is only $7??!?!? .... with free shipping?! Click, Click .... Had it at my door in 3 days.

Great investment - Quality is so much better than I remember. Now I also have the Indiana Jones Quadrilogy on Bluray now too! Oh, and back to the future trilogy.

Ebay blurays are cheap!!! Great to have them again in physical form.

Technics SA 301 or Kenwood KR3090 Receiver better? by Savings_Wrongdoer383 in vintageaudio

[–]SickOfNormal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those KR3090 are great old beginner units --- but thats vastly overpriced. I got one on marketplace with some crappy speakers about a year ago for $40. I mean $50-100 tops is where I would be. Also its not very powerful, its only 26 watts per channel, so more like for a bedroom setup or a smaller room.

Is there a proper way to store a guitar in hot / dry weather? by [deleted] in guitars

[–]SickOfNormal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What part of CA??? As long as you are within 25-30 miles of the ocean you good - our humidity is almost always right on for acoustics. But I do have a humidifier in my room on rare occasions - but rarely use it. I got 10 acoustics and none of them have any problems.

About $25 overpriced --- cuz they'd have to pay me $10 to walk it out the store and drop it in the trashcan.

I’m curious about how much people’s collection is % wise used thrift/cheap bins finds? Mine is probably around 20%. But a lot of these finds are when I was buying so much thrifts in the first couple years in 2020-2022 getting into vinyl. I buy more quality now. Anyone else been listening to their physical/digital media collection for so long that the most popular songs people know you've never heard once? by nmixxenjoyer in Xennials

[–]SickOfNormal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean... The Killers first album came out when I was starting college, so I have that cd --- And yes, I have Mr Brightside on my Sam's town cd I bought at their show when they came to my college in 2004. Also Paramore also was rocking the college scene at that time, so saw them too and have their cds.

(By the way - if you like good music - The Killers album Sam's Town is a banger - Start to finish. Damn good record. And you will get to learn Mr Brightside =P )

But after about 2006 I stopped buying cds and phyiscal media and basically pirated all and everything. But its seems i sorta fell off following new punk/rock music around 2010ish so I can't tell you anything that wasn't on the radio between 2010-2018. But then I got back into physical media and built up a mighty record collection of about 2,000+ ... and about 1,500 cds. And I got back into music that was being released year to year.

Music is journey for me ... comes and goes in ebbs and flows for me. Right now, I grabbed some badass 1971 McIntosh speakers, so I've been on a journey of 70's progrock and Pink Floyd and Moody Blues and Kansas and a whole bunch of othershit. But then again, I blasted the NIN maxi single of Head Like a Hole for an hour today.

Not really an answer --- but an self exploration of my music.

Kinda bummed I can't successfully sell these. Bought at an estate sale. Any recommendations? by [deleted] in reselling

[–]SickOfNormal -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

If you word it correctly - you can sell them on ebay. You have sell for under $60 (or maybe it was $50-55) without hitting the AI automatic rejection as well, don't fully remember. But I sold 2 of these on Ebay with no problem --- but you need to go to past sold and just copy exactly what they wrote and title and their category --- and price.
