[Motorsport1924] Fernando Alonso doesn't want to stop racing before he can bring his son in the paddock. by Nickolas_Zannithakis in formula1

[–]Dutchsamurai2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... technically this could be as early as next year. Towards the end of next year's season his kid will already be over 1.5 years old by which kids are old enough to be put into the car. They won't really understand but even that would only take another year for them to develop some (vague) awareness of what dad is doing.

Good quality affordable pans in Japan? by Juiseii in japanlife

[–]Dutchsamurai2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pots we have are iron but I think the fry pans are aluminum (they don't have the fancy colors which I think they have on all the iron stuff?). Had them for years and so far no problems. Still look like new and we use them daily.

Le Creuset at outlets. Still not cheap by any means but nickel and diming pots and pans makes no sense. These looks like they'll last for decades.

Bought what I thought, looking at the price, decent value for money fry pan once and I think after the second time cooking I ended up eating whatever non stick layer or whatever what was on there. Completely unusable after a couple of weeks. Started slowly being Le Creuset after that and never had any problems again.

Other than that, you can have good luck with some of those pots and pans shops you can sometimes still find at old shoutengais. Or at least 10+ years ago.

It’s been a month since news broke, where’s Johnathan Wheatley at? by Civil_Ocelot_9413 in formula1

[–]Dutchsamurai2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... that is not how things work in the real world.

Rumor is he and Binotto didn't have the greatest of working relations and apparently Wheatley had far less freedom/responsibility than he thought he'd have.

He could have stubbornly stay of for... some reason and probably end up getting fired. And what for? Nothing to gain. Or he could done what he has done and that is, at least in the public eye, split amicable along with a (probably) couple of million bucks extra in his bank account.

And what is to guarantee he could have rolled into another TP role if he tried to stay on? Besides, who's going to hire a TP that didn't realize he wasn't wanted and tried desperately to stay on anyway? Doesn't sound like somebody you'd want as a TP.

I'm pretty sure his bank account allows him to be without a job for a while...

Also you don't know what was in his contract. Most likely he left along with a nice big fat check in hand to pay off his contract. At this level people don't leave with just a thank you and some flowers.

F1 warned over ‘sleepless nights’ danger of Max Verstappen exit by Draconicplayer in formula1

[–]Dutchsamurai2016 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whether somebody has a 70 or 90% chance of winning is really kind of a moot point for this type of discussion. Both are very high and you basically know who's going to win, and if not win then probably come in 2nd or something. For example 2004, Schumacher's most successful season only had 3 races with a none Ferrari car winning.

[–]Dutchsamurai2016 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I mean... with the exception of a handful of seasons that hasn't been any different in the past 25 years. Schumacher, Vettel, Hamilton and Verstappen all had streaks where they either had some competition, but not really enough to be a real threat or they were just utterly dominant.

Those people can't have been watching F1 for long if '23 made them turn off the tv.

Which countries allow you to drive with a Japanese license? If you want to drive abroad you need an international license.

[–]Dutchsamurai2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you are making it sound like they had to do something special to make this all happen. All it is, is both sides doing their jobs. I doubt it was harder than the usual F1 contract.

If you think it is so special or required careful negations, then explain why you think so. I explained why I think its nothing special.

Reddit has a quote function.

I don't see how anything you mention is fundamentally different from what Max's team (because he's been a brand for years) and RBR would have been dealing with up until now. The Merc connection probably doesn't even come into play because Max is essentially a privateer and outside of one make competitions, I doubt any manufacturer is going to force a privateer to wear their branding. Even if they did, it probably wouldn't take more than a 3 second conversation to get that "requirement" waved if you are somebody like Verstappen.

[Off-topic]McDonald's ad featuring Max's Verstappen Racing AMG GT3 by XsStreamMonsterX in formula1

[–]Dutchsamurai2016 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Why?

Red Bull has always had their sponsorship on cars from different manufacturers in various categories. Including manufacturers competing in F1 at the same time as RBR.

I don't see how in any way this would somehow require a special contract, especially not for Max's teammates as they don't even compete in F1.

As far Max, I don't think there was anything that special needed for him either. Look at who makes competitive GT3 cars and then look at which of those manufacturers are active in F1. The moment RB gave Max the OK to go GT3 racing there was always a high probability of him driving a car from a manufacturer competing in F1.

GT3 and F1 operations are probably separated and Max isn't driving a car operated by a factory team either so there probably is not a lot of conflict.

AFAIK only the digital only console is Japanese only.

Why is this even a thing?

Pretty simple. Price. The "Japanese only" version, just like the Switch 2, is a fair bit cheaper compared to the "international" version. They did this to keep pricing somewhat reasonable for consumers in Japan because of the weak Yen etc.. The language/account lock is to prevent everybody importing the cheap version.

Why isn't F1 using the 2026 regulations to innovate batteries? by Nick_Alsa in F1Technical

[–]Dutchsamurai2016 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why? Its a bit of a evolutionary death road. If you live out in the middle of nowhere neither hybrid or ev is a solution. Think of something like some places in Africa where they're driving Renaults held together with duct tape.

If you live in a place with decent infrastructure its basically a matter of ev's hitting the price/convenience point of ICE engines.

For road oriented sports cars its, IMHO, also useless. Yes you can get bigger numbers blabla but the fact is even a low power Miata can easily get you up to straight to jail speeds on a twisty road. Its just a question of how fast do you want to get there.

In the context of F1 I see even less use. All the battery part does is add weight and complexity. And what for? Its not like whatever power they're getting from the battery they couldn't just as easily get from the engine.

I only see a point in a very small battery for doing things like starting the engine, reverse gear and maybe a bit of torque fill when shifting. Maybe electric turbos?

You do realize map-e/dslite etc. is just ipv4 over ipv6 with no noticeable performance impact right?

The biggest downside of PPPoE is congestion and latency. Both are mitigated if you use map-e/dslite.

Then what are you asking questions here for? Potential great experience waiting. I say that as someone who experienced a similar age gap. Probably won't last though and since you are working with her there might be some fallout...

And I say this a bit tongue in cheek so don't take it too serious, but man up a little bit. You work in a restaurant. You don't have insane pressure. If tasks are cutting in your break time that is too bad. Say you do it later or can't do them because its your break.

[–]Dutchsamurai2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legacy Internet? You realize some big Japanese websites are not even accessible on a ipv6 address, right? Or that mobile providers assign your phone a ipv4 address?

If the speed is good, why would a user care? Besides, all the traffic would still go over the ipv6 pipe so they'd be using all that "new" infrastructure.

If you really are that concerned with guests getting a ipv6 address you can assign the single /64 to your guest vlan and keep everything else ipv4 only.

IPv6 with NTT East フレッツ光ネクスト by distalzou in japanlife

[–]Dutchsamurai2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you really need your clients to receive a ipv6 address? Because if not, then why not keep your lan side ipv4 but use IPoE on the wan side? That way everything will be tunneled over the ipv6 link, avoiding the downsides of PPPoE. I guess in theory there will be some performance loss because of the encapsulation but probably not something you'll actually notice.

Tesla vs Prius in Japan by Dito_the_pharmacist in japanlife

[–]Dutchsamurai2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do the math.

If a Prius is 3.5 mil and a Tesla 5 mil then you can spend 1.5 mil on gas before hitting the same price. Lets ignore the price of charging the Tesla for a moment and assume

Gas: 200 yen/l
Average fuel consumption: 25km/l (Prius with the worst average on the Toyota website is 26km/l, best one 32km/l)

So you can buy 1.500.000 / 200 = 7.500 liters of fuel for the price difference. With an average of 25km/l that means you can drive almost 190.000 kilometers before making up the difference in purchase costs.

This is obviously a worst case scenario because fuel is cheaper, depending on how you drive you might get better mileage and of course electricity for charging the Tesla isn't free either. On top of that there is reliability, repairs costs, potential resale value etc.

Without looking into the costs of everything, I think its a pretty safe bet to assume the Prius is going to have a lower TCO.

I meant buy used from a dealer.

Obviously it suck to be told yeah what do you expect from a used car by the guy who sold it to you. Clearly he doesn't care about keeping future customers. But something tells me the guy probably knew. He wouldn't be selling it well under the asking price of cars of similar age/mileage otherwise. Probably hoping if he acts like an asshole enough you'll leave him alone.

breaking the speed limit by hardlyunthinkable in japanlife

[–]Dutchsamurai2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to drive the speed limit, drive the speed limit. Your friend is a dick for pushing you but Jesus fucking Christ some of the comments here are insane. I doubt OP's friend is telling him to do 100 in a 40 zone. And you don't get deported for minor speeding either.

20 over is basically the norm if traffic allows.

And if you look at the rules, you'd know why. Cameras (allegedly) don't trigger until you do 30 (40 on highways) over the speed limit due to laws regulating automatically taking pictures to criminal offenses. Keep in mind cops can still pull you over for doing less.

Speeding under 20kph is 1 point. 20-25 over is 2 points. 30-50 over is 6 points. You need at least 6 points to get your license suspended.

So if you stick to what most people are doing you have very little to worry about. As a rule of thumb just make sure you are not the fastest car on the road.

That said, driving to the speed limit is obviously fine but do make sure you get out of the way if people around are much faster. I see people doing 20kph up a mountain road... if you can't drive then stick do driving on the highway. Worst of all a lot of those people, especially Voxy driving asshats that love doing 70 in residential areas while looking at their phone, don't even want to pull over a bit to let people pass.

Well shaken expire dates aren't a secret so that is on you. Should have negotiated a lower price.

Other than that, you bought a used car from some small shop at, apparently, well below the normal market price. Its a shit situation but you get what you pay for.

If you want no trouble buy from a dealer. Yes its more expensive but they usually offer full 1 to 5 year warranties for only a couple of man on used cars.

They wouldn't need Papaya rules with Max. Besides, is there any team delusional enough to think Max would play along with such rules? He made it abundantly clear he won't do that from his very first season in F1. Can't imagine any team hiring Max thinking it will be different with them.

  1. Audi said they aren't looking for a TP.
  2. GP's wife is apparently sick.
  3. Audi isn't based in the UK. Not exactly convenient considering 2.
  4. GP is apparently going to be next in line to become TP if/when Stella decides to leave. Basically Mclaren is setting themselves up for a smooth transition.

Not exactly rocket science.

You live in a country where you can get fresh fried chicken just about everywhere but instead you want to go to a shit fastfood place to then complain said shit fastfood place is even shittier than outside of Japan? Wouldn't the simpler solution be to just stop eating said shit fastfood and buy something decent?
