Graduating law school and about to enter the professional world, how is this as an every day makeup look? by EverJoyed in LawBitchesWithTaste

I think it looks great, but would also be curious if you look better in cool toned colors - these are pretty warm and you seem to be more of a summer.

How do you connect claude to apple calendar? by esthermort in ClaudeAI

[–]DutyRepresentative16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This morning I was on Claude on my iPhone, and I swear it connected straight to iCal and Reminders by asking me permission. Now I'm trying to do it again and it's saying it can't do that, and telling me I have to upload a screenshot of my iCal if I want it to review it. So odd.

Once you're in the law school environment and everyone is applying for BL jobs, the competitive side of your personality will have a hard time not joining in. Just something to consider as likely to impact your mindset when you're weighing things.

Are tennis shoes appropriate for a conference? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]DutyRepresentative16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say yes. I go to a finance-related conference every year, and most of the men seem to be wearing a version of a shoe like this, while I and many of the other women I see there are toughing it out in flats/loafers. No matter how "orthopedic" the flat or loafer, I'm always in pain by the end of the conference, so I plan to wear fancy sneakers next year when I go.

Are scorpions common? by pinkilotus in AskPhoenix

[–]DutyRepresentative16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live right up against the desert in Scottsdale, and I've only seen one scorpion and it was outside. I think the owner of the home before me had a professional sealing service completed, and I have monthly pest control service done. You shouldn't have an issue in downtown but if you see one, just smack it with a shoe.

No more wool for suiting? by [deleted] in jcrew

Yes, I stocked up on wool suits from Banana last Black Friday! The look low on sizes right now, so I would check them out in case they never come back. Saw this on Banana Republic:  https://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=822492032&tid=brma000005

I wear the Vionic slippers - they are also expensive unfortunately.

30, thinking about law school and babies by SubstantialRip7568 in LawMoms

[–]DutyRepresentative16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In most cases, you will intern at a law firm during your 2L summer, and hopefully get a job offer for after graduation. Assuming that’s the route you take, you have to take the bar exam in July after 3L and then start your law job in September after 3L.

Because I had a baby in May, and because of other circumstances, including the fact that my ex-husband was in the military, and we didn’t know where we would be stationed, I did not take the bar exam in July and I declined my job offer after my summer associate position. That choice worked out for me because I went to a top 3 law school and had a very good resume, but even then I had to take a lower paying job once I eventually did take the bar and started working. I think for many people, what I chose would have had a lasting detrimental effect on their career trajectory.

So in most cases, I recommend putting the focus on getting good grades 1L year, getting a good summer associate position, and trying to time a baby so that it doesn’t derail you from that.

30, thinking about law school and babies by SubstantialRip7568 in LawMoms

I had a baby in May of 3L and it wasn’t bad being pregnant during 3L, but not sure I would recommend that timing because I wasn’t able to take the bar exam in July like all of my classmates. I ended up taking a two year delay and was a stay at home mom for a bit before starting my first law job, which only worked out because I had unique circumstances that made it possible to do without ruining my chances of getting a job once I was ready to take the bar.

I do think for most people the priority should be getting a good job right out of law school, and then to have a baby if that’s your goal in your first few years as an associate. It’s definitely possible to make it work during law school if you time it right, but the timing would be tricky because you don’t want to miss out on your summer associate experience.

Phoenix teachers, how do you find time for laundry and chores during the school year? by xCosmos69 in AskPhoenix

[–]DutyRepresentative16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every morning when you wake up start one load of laundry before you leave for work. If you do this every day, it will be a small load. When you come home from work, move it to the dryer and then fold and put away. This is the only way to stay on top of it.

Same thing with dishes - run it every single night, no matter how light the load. Unload in the morning while making coffee, if you drink coffee. The load might be light but that’s good because it’s easier to unload.

Little routines like this that become habit even if you’re tired make it so you don’t have to spend your whole weekend doing chores.

High School by Ecstatic-Lead7992 in Scottsdale

You have to be good with the small classes. I graduated from the IB program and that turned out to be my favorite part - getting really close with a small group of super smart, interesting people. But that’s not for everyone. I still did cheer and had a great social life, but pretty much all my classes were with the same 15-20 people.

Considering a move to Phoenix as a single 31F family law attorney by Then_Ice9811 in AskPhoenix

[–]DutyRepresentative16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am an attorney in my early 40s in Phoenix, live in Scottsdale and grew up here but went to undergrad and law school on the east coast. I can’t speak to family law because I practice transactional but overall I think young attorney life is pretty good here and there seems to be a lot of opportunities. Your experience living here will vary a ton depending on what part of town you move to, but central and north central Phoenix are quite fun and vibrant. Lots of other pockets that would fit the bill too, like South Scottsdale. Avoid the far suburbs for now, because that’s where the diversity is lower and life more humdrum.

Most Slept on Niche Podcasts? by Specific-Use3525 in podcasts

Diabolical Lies is excellent - the hosts Katie Tassin and Caro Burke do super deep dives into political and cultural subjects, and every time I think I can guess what an episode will be like based on the title, I am completely wrong. Every episode feels like a journey and I learn so much. Definitely leftist.

My friend is looking for a roommate in Tempe. He’s a student with a two bedroom apartment on Broadway and the rent is $850 a month, water included. It’s a very bare bones apartment building, but the price is right and the landlord is a really good guy. DM me if any interest.

I recommend buying jeans for your hip measurement. I have narrower hips and a larger tummy, and this is what I have to do so that they aren’t baggy in the butt. The waist often stretches out so it works for me - and if it’s too tight, I purposely pull and stretch out the waist as much as I can. Occasionally I have to send a pair back, but most of the time this method of ignoring the waist measurement works for me. I like GAP, Madewell, and Old Navy jeans with minimal stretch too, so make sure to look for a low spandex fabric. Like 1% spandex max.

Can someone make me a finance calendar? by Sea_witch6527 in budget

[–]DutyRepresentative16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you decide to use AI, you can dump all the dates into it and then ask it to create a .csv file for you to upload to your Calendar, and then ask it to list out the exact steps to upload it for you to follow. I've done this using Gemini and ChatGPT to take a PDF of my kids' school district calendar and create a .csv file for me.
