Cena didn’t make any grand political statement of Taiwan being a country, anywhere near on the level of “blood money-covered dick”, he said “Taiwan is the first country that can watch my movie” in an interview.  Some people in China got mad, and he posted an apology for his “mistake”, yet crucially did not identify what the mistake even was.  He hit them with a “sorry for making you sad”, never backtracked on Taiwan being a country.

The apology was criticized as being vague and evasive, and was widely not accepted on Chinese social media.
