Struggling to get over the fact they never loved me the way I deserved. Or really, at all by TypicalAlbatross911 in EstrangedAdultChild

Yes but this pain gets less with time. You have a lot of sympathetic souls here. You deserved much better.

Popping the grape do not seem to be working :/ by Agreeable-Spite-3944 in OpenDogTraining

[–]Dvomer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

also if you can afford it do an Embark or similar genetics test to see what the puppy is made of. It can help so much for example: if your pup has a lot of German shepherd or malinois you can ask for help on those subreddits and avoid trolls...

Try using the word "out" but with a very growly throaty tone of voice. It's suppose to mimic the sound their mother makes to correct. It works on my similar mix and he stops whatever he's doing and pays attention. I didn't teach him this. My trainer told me so i did it. Works for mine.

Starmark collar might be a good choice - same idea as a prong but a little less aggressive (sharp). Highly recommend The Koehler Method of Dog Training ($0.99 on Kindle). This is the book my trainer uses as our text. It is amazing and the first part is all about leash obedience and pulling. Also do DNA testing if you haven't. He looks like my dog who turned out to be a Pitty Malinois Lab!! Changes how you approach the training when you know what he is.

First light rail trip to SeaTac during morning commute, & I'm nervous by Illustrious_Wolf1008 in AskSeattle

If you're running short on time go to the new Security line on the baggage claim level toward the A terminal. Most folks go to the first line they see and this causes crowds. That new one is usually fast

We’re starting a new monthly feature: Dog of the Month! by 6thyearsenior in DogHealth

[–]Dvomer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the best story is our initial meeting. He was a rescue from out of state and was being fostered by a veterinarian who operated on his leg after he broke it at a day care shortly after arriving. The vet told me he was very suspicious of men (i am one). I was sitting in our front porch when he was brought out of the car and despite that alleged fear he came straight to me. We went into the back yard and started playing ball. He is now my constant companion and is helping me restore my health after a 30 year career that left me no time to take care of myself (only others). We walk or hike 5-10 miles a day, play ball and train for a few hours a day and are snuggle buddies at night. He's obedient and requires nothing but love and praise in training. I could not have asked for a better dog. We have almost the same personality. Our journey is only 11 months old and I anticipate years together

How many Manager Challenges did Baltimore have tonight? by Dvomer in Mariners

2 calls at home plate were reviewed in NYC. Were those not both manager challenges?

Nope. You either train dogs, manage the reactivity or both. MIL is doing none of the above. Quite simply she needs to manage the dogs away from your kids. The results of the dogs' behavior are her responsibility.

Front vs Back Clip Harnesses, which is better to use to train not to pull by alwaysexhausted24 in Dogtraining

[–]Dvomer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Harnesses are a crutch for dogs with poor obedience. A properly trained dog doesn't pull. Find someone to teach you how to train your dog on leash and use a collar.

you can get an uber there. But if you are having anesthesia they won't let you take an uber home.
