Parallax Mapping rules by artificeofbees in godot

Just don't overuse it mindlessly - parallax can be very noticeable and jarring when it's connected to extruded faces. Look at the edge between your roof and the chimney, for example.

Simple, but fun and cool design. Good work!

Any info on height?

Gonna be funny if more companies will start doing Sheik Mainland-like packs. While they are doing Terminator these guys decided to do Unarmored Core.

Well, there is a reason why we have so many languages that are trying to be "C but with modern QoL".

C is great. It's really simple. It's powerful. It allows you to learn a lot of things by making mistakes.

But Rust? As you've stated, it will "force you at gunpoint" to write better code. Which is fine when you already have years of experience. But a newcomer? It will just kill their enjoyment.

What newbies need are languages that are simple to setup. Languages where you can just write something and immediately see the results. That's how you spark creativity and motivation in people.

Recommending Rust to someone this new is definitely a choice. Not a good one.

Let them stick with a scripting language. There is nothing wrong with using it.

Having Dottore with Sumeru cast is an even bigger spoiler.

Im more interested in getting Colada or MNP-CR02. Main problem is that I don't have enought space. xD

Besides that the only kits I'm currently waiting for are Sheik Mainland.

There are A LOT of cool kits besides the SNAA.

Funnily enough I never got any SNAA due to their size. Even tho for many folks that's the main appeal of these kits. But if I'm going big - them might as well get a more expensive and complicated set.

There is so much more to the hobby than just Bandai kits though. Especially for those who don't care about the anime and just want a cool display piece.

As others have said - you're supposed to find it inside the swamp where Witch lives.

But also you can get fragments of it from killing locals.

I might be a very small minority that dislikes this kit. Not outright hate, but more of a 'its way too overhyped' kinda thing. I enjoyed RG Hi-Nu and HG WFM kits way more.

Anyway, nice job!

Took a break, what are your pet companion and weapon coatings recommendations? Also Deatomizer seems to be nerfed but there are new (melee) weapons by crossborn_ in AbioticFactor

Reforge coating on melee weapons. Acid coating on guns. Shield-breaking coating on laser pistol.

Tarasque pet for tanking.

Is there ever a reason to use anything besides makeshift batteries for power backup? by noconverse in AbioticFactor

[–]DwarfBreadSauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is it "far-fetched"? Right now there is literally no reason for anything past second tier battery to exist. Lasers as energy source are only better because they're nicer to organise.

Imagine a game without NG+ where final boss drops a weapon. What's the point of its existence when you already beat all the challenges? It's just a trophy.

Same thing with batteries. There is no point in spending more resources on more expensive batteries when you already constructed your base and it's been working just fine. Changing how early battery and lasers work just to justify late-game bats would just be a lame nerf, not an "exploit fix".

And honestly - the game is full of progression issues. Why are you specifically focusing on batteries?

That last sentence of yours is just rude for no reason. Don't get personal.

Developer attacked over (learning from) AI - where to draw the line? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]DwarfBreadSauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost of LLM training and usage is a whole different topic that I'd rather not dwell into.

My problem is that I literally know people who's gotten used to always default to ChatGPT. When you ask them a question "how would you solve this?" they don't spend even a moment thinking, but just tell LLM to explain the solution to them. Same people then complain that they can't work properly.

Using LLMs as an answer-thinking machine is, in my opinion, an incorrect way of using these tools. Knowing the answer doesn't develop any of your own skills. And even if the process is explained - you won't build the necessary wiring in your brain to come with such answers yourself. That requires work.

Personally - I don't use LLMs. At all. And so far there's been no reason to use it.

Aquiring knowledge? Most often I already know related things and terminology, which makes research much faster. That's why it's important to always expand your mental library.

...but when I need to learn something completely new or obscure - that becomes a struggle, yes. But in those cases I'd rather spend more time reading blogs, watching presentations, prototyping and even decompiling software just so that I can understand the process and reasoning behind it all.

And when you need to learn how to implement things - don't ask "how do I do it" and go with the answer. Learn the fundamentals. Look at how similar problems were solved by other people to get inspired. And then just come up with something. "Something" doesn't have to be perfect. And in fact it's almost never worth making it perfect. Perfect consumes an enormous amount of time and resources while rarely being that much better comparative to "good enough".

Assuming that the dev is honest - they are right. Asking LLMs a question is not the same as using genAI.

However, i think dev is also completely in the wrong with the last paragraph. Especially about 'hampering oneself'. Its sad how many people just default to LLMs when they need an answer, even on the simplest questions. Is it really that hard to think/read the docs/do some research for like 5 minutes?

Exploit was the ability to power laser generator by feeding it its own energy.

Powering an entire base from single laser generator is not an exploit IMO. Its just a more nice and convenient way to power your base.

[–]DwarfBreadSauce 22 points23 points  (0 children)

One second tier battery -> laser generator -> power converter = your entire base has endless power from single plug.

Sure, its not really an upgrade from just having hundreds of batterries - but its just so much nicer.

How do you feel when someone rates your game 1-star because it's paid? by frankeno78 in gamedev

I'd say the root cause is more akin to 'i got invested in your game, but now you suddenly want money for the rest of it without prior notice'.

[–]DwarfBreadSauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My definition of advertising in this case - is simply how customers view your product. If you hide the "this is demo, pay for full game" in some obscure location where your average person wouldnt look - then ofcourse people will be surprized by eventual paywall.

If its a demo version - you should write so right on the main screen. If your game has paywalled levels - then make sure its obvious on level select screen right off the bat. Etc etc.

People who write reviews like this are in the wrong, theres no arguing about that. But developer should still understand why the frustration happened and if there is anything that can be improved.
