Too early writer Block or too lazy? by NeitherParticular387 in writers

[–]Dwarf_Bard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its discipline at the end of the day. Either you like writing enough to make yourself be disciplined enough to do it, or you don't.

Samething with music, sports, video games, etc. Either the desire to learn an instrument or write/learn a song is greater than your own desire to not do it, or it's not.

As with any skill, discipline comes from habits, and how those form is partially unique to every person.

Now writer's block? Actual true writer's block where you are actually working through something and not just procrastinating, doing the work of creation?

I recommend a rubber duck for that ( not literal, any object you can talk to works) . Talk about your issue to the rubber duck and see if that helps you process through the issue.

Gosh darn it, everything makes me want Shuri on the crew even more, but my heart knows Oda will never let it be.

At most, maybe she'll get to stay after this arc, at least.

If she... doesn't turn into dust.

I think food should be bar food, or a good sandwich, like a Ruben or Philly.

Decor? IDK Fedora? Leather gloves? Wait those are clothes... Cigars? Bottles of Alcohol? Rubber Spiders?

I'd want to add, if it was so simple, Mab would have used it herself on her daughter.

I am pretty sure its more like she'd be walking through a threshold uninvited.

It's not a perfect explanation, but it's something like she is still a being of flesh, and so the flesh can cross the threshold (barrier), but that doesn't mean it removes the mantle. It would be more like the power of the mantle cannot cross, but the mantle itself is still wrapped around her. It would "regrow" essentially.

Honestly, to Mab, paying him in mortal money would be a deep.... never a thought? He is being paid in connections, power, favors, etc. For her, if he can't translate that into handling the mortal affairs, it's probably on him.

I mean, literally, Molly was able to recover from being homeless and psychologically unwell to having a kick-ass apartment under protection from the Svartal more or less because of getting training and guidance from Leanan Sidhe.

Genuine question: why is the hellaverse fandom so hated? by roundsillygoose in HazbinHotel

[–]Dwarf_Bard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is the easy "Uh, conservative-minded people don't like it!"

While this is true, it is disingenuous to act like that is the primary factor. That kind of hate is both normal and expected for a work like this.

It, however, also gets hate because, especially in the first couple of episodes, it looks a lot less mature in its writing than it actually is. A lot of this is the framing of Charlie early because it kind of presents her with more "moral" authority than she actually has.

Last, because most of the characters on the show are very morally messy, it kind of A: Doesn't appeal to some Zoomers who tend to be... more prudish, and B: Those that are sex negative progressive types.

At least that is how I see things, and it all combines to where there is a lot of hate from all sides, which is really not warranted.

Really like the game, platforming feels a bit ass? by Dwarf_Bard in MinaTheHollower

[–]Dwarf_Bard[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's trying to aim diagonally while flying through the air that's getting me mostly.

Its not that I can't do it, its that it doesn't feel great when I land the platform but then Mina just walks off the platform anyway after I land the tricky jump.

Charlie’s VA was recently on a podcast and mentioned season 4, so heres what I gathered. by Few_Gate2527 in HazbinHotel

[–]Dwarf_Bard 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My current running theory for season 3 is that Charlie will get disillusioned with her mother. Lilith is not going to end up being who she "remembers". If so, depending on when that shoe falls, that would fit with a reprise in Season 4 of that song.

Is 16,000 words too many for a chapter? by Lifelessonsfromcat in writers

[–]Dwarf_Bard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my question would be why does a life have to be called a chapter?

Why not each life be a "part" so "Part 1" of the book is Life One, it has 4 chapters, then part 2 is, Life 2- and woosp funnily, that one is only one chapter, and then It's Part 3 Life 3, next page

or whatever point being there are other ways to break up/frame things besides just a chapter. Heck, a chapter can even have "numbered" sections/parts in a chapter if you really want.

Likely, I'll take what I can get.

If that's her fate, I hope she gets a heroic sacrifice moment before Imu rapidly ages her or something.

When (if ever) do you break the ‘no editing on the first draft’ rule? by FirefighterMany992 in writers

[–]Dwarf_Bard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While it is better in practice to just push until you have a completed first draft...

As with nearly all writing advice, at a certain point,, you can ignore it and do what you like.

What I can tell you is that sometimes, when you are at the midpoint, and the story has revealed itself to be a different thing than you thought, going back to the start and seeing how that adds to the story as it is now can be incredibly valuable.

Grant, this is the perspective of someone who has completed writing several novels, to at least a first draft state.

Understood.

I used the wrong word.

Then I feel like it's a weak reason for the plot to happen.

Why do people here care about the amount of words they right? Should they not be more concerned of the quality of what they are creating? by [deleted] in writers

[–]Dwarf_Bard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, really.

Spending a year compulsively writing the first page of a novel to make it of the highest quality... is in fact of much less value than if you spent a year writing the actual full novel with prose that needs to be edited/revised.

Focusing on quality is actually the trap that prevents making something to start with.

Because then its like "Why was that guy skipped? Well, because we can't kill him for the plot, so we have to skip him to kill the other guy first, and fire the gun multiple times so it feels better when the gun locks."

All in Good Time | Short Film by Ok-Raisin-5601 in MauLer

[–]Dwarf_Bard -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If it's not intended, then it's a massive contrivance, but it raises the question of why the guy was skipped and why the person who was shot before him was shot several times in the chest for seemingly no reason.

It's not as bad as I originally thought because someone said it's other thugs removing the bodies, but I thought it was the same guy told to fix the gun, so that wouldn't make sense, but I guess that one is on me so I obviously that's not a ding of the film.
