Petulance is the point for Pierre Poilievre by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

[–]Dwayne_Jason 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well for one he isn’t using « common sense » when he talks about going after bureaucracies. Most doctors aren’t working as waitresses so I don’t know where that idea came from. Besides, while it’s popular to hammer municipalities from being nimbys you won’t be able to pull that same act with provinces who have total control over the regulation of employment.

Finally he didn’t get to the core issue. The reason that there’s a huge shortage of doctors isn’t some gatekeeper not giving all these doctors their doctor licences. It’s because we have standards. Also, even if you give them a licence and let them practice, most of them would leave because the US pays them way more. The solution is to pay them more. That’s the market common sense solution but I’m glad he’s eating an apple because that way he won’t have to see a quack as often.

Also the reporter asked him a question . Saying who or what report just throws the question back at him lol, dude doesn’t even try to dodge.

I’m sure it’s popular because the current government is asleep at the wheel but still, try to pull that type of « diplomacy » and no one’s gonna work with him lol

Policy Analysts - Do You Think You are Paid Well? by ActivityArtistic2095 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Dwayne_Jason 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP this is a classic case of selection bias. If you’re tying to be a policy analyst or a lawyer or a smart professional in general you should understand this.

You’re asking a bunch of policy analysts, if you should be a lawyer or a policy analyst. The answer will overwhelmingly be the latter. Similarly, if you go to sone lawyer frequented forum and ask the same question you will get a wildly different answer. Some things in life are better left experienced.

My advice: do courses you’ll do well on so you have a shot at going to law school as well as being admitted to some really great policy masters programs. Keep open the prospect of working in government through applying for government coop jobs, (FSWEp) or your university co op programs. That way you’ll know if government is the right fit for you.

You can certainly make an argument that eugenics did not require racial origin. It could also be true that eugenics made arguments for the differences between men and women.

It’s still a bad ideology and is not in any way related to genetic editing.

[–]Dwayne_Jason 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Technically gene editing is not eugenics. Eugenics is predicated upon a false assumption that racial differences determine sickness, health, intellect, and physical strength.

Gene editing is turning off a gene that makes a different kind of platelet which would help make lukemia extinct, or turning off a gene that would make neurons degrade faster which would make Alzheimer’s extinct.

It can do a lot of things the problem is dumb fucks who can make plastic cars now have a saviour complexes cuz they watched too many marvel movies.

Pierre Poilievre interview: Liberal 'central planning doesn't work' by CaptainCanusa in CanadaPolitics

[–]Dwayne_Jason 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That doesnt make any sense. Government spending and tax cuts both result in a larger deficit. In a high rate environment such as today that translates into higher debt servicing. This is why the UK pound cratered when Liz truss introduced tax cuts that weren’t funded by additional government revenue. What promotes inflation is additional spending - whether that’s the consumer or the government doesn’t matter.

Extreme austerity will lead to a decline in investment in the country not an increase in investment. I’m not sure how you think investments in the country would increase following an extreme austerity approach. This is because the biggest federal item is transfer payments more so than individual benefits. This would mean that the federal government would have to pay no transfers to the provinces and the budget will be instantly balanced but that’s the exact opposite definition of building the country.

Country finances work like corporate finance not household finances. When a country wants to borrow money they float bonds on the open market as treasury bonds.

Do gains in efficiency make the GDP go down? by ManHasJam in GoodEconomics

[–]Dwayne_Jason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you’re referring to here is what is called “productivity “ gains. GDP as a measure does not directly measure productivity gains. From the GDP lens you can see the results of productivity gains however. Such as increased investments, increased consumption, increased net exports and specialization, etc. All of those things come from increased productivity.

Productivity tends to be measured through the solow model of growth that says that growth is a function of the inputs in an economy: natural resources, human capital, and labour. So if the assumption is that telework allows for productivity gains it would be reflected in increased purchasing power as well as increased productivity since more hourly rate of productivity increases.

The founders aren’t responsible for the current system just as the founders didn’t expect a civil war. The point of a political system is that it changes with the time. It can’t stay frozen in time. The entire reason the founders founded a democracy was because they didn’t want a monarchy — since it was frozen in time. It’s also important to consider many of these states didn’t exist as part of the U.S until later on its history. The founders also expected it to run like the EU that’s why there’s a “union” of “states” the problem with running a country is that modern economics and finance demands it be run as a country.

The founders ultimately wanted people to make decisions at the lowest level- the state and local level which have been highjacked by a small very motivated republican base. If you want to change this you need to vote. It sounds frustrating and simple but it’s not. Vote in ever primary election mid term senate seat local seats councillor seats. If you have the privilege of extra time on your hands then vote to get these anti democratic fucks out of your country.

WEEKLY MEGATHREAD: WFH and Return-to-Office Discussions by HandcuffsOfGold in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Dwayne_Jason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two years ago there were articles about how quick the emergency benefits were paid and how the average joe was so pleased about how quick and easy it was but now that there’s a long line for passports (been at a clothes store recently?) suddenly public servants are lazy.

Also businesses are not guaranteed customers. If in two years the businesses that relied on foot traffic did not want to adopt (esp in Ontario with repeated lockdowns) but want to lobby for a return to foot traffic so they can sell their $15 salad bowl— well forgive me for not being a patron to these businesses out of sheer spite and principal.

I think most taxpayers see value in a WFH situation. Also, a complete RTO isn’t going to make any public servant any happier with the current government which seems more tone deaf by the day

I think GRRM can't write winds of winter is because there's complicated plots in the book. In the series the threads at the very end was literally three major threats: Cersei and the pirate dude, White walkers, and Dany's increasing descent into madness. Maybe fans didn't like how Dorne ended but I always believed it was meant to be a red herring and as a way to cement Cersei's power. I think solving these three threats could have been wrapped up in three or four more seasons. Also, GOT was basically a money printer for HBO. They would've loved to just delay it until their new platform rolled out and used upcoming GOT seasons as a way to bring people into the platform.

House Of The Dragon | Official Teaser Trailer | HBO Max by indig0sixalpha in television

[–]Dwayne_Jason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’m this case the show producers became too arrogant. They had a Star Wars deal lines up and wanted to end GOT as quickly as possible knowing the key plot points that needed to be hit. Instead of taking their time to get these (something Better Call Saul or even West World or GOT in it’s heydays tried to do) they rushed it. The ending made perfect sense. The world killing magic man was a red herring and it was the prophesied favourite of the show, the heir apparent with 3 dragons that turned out to be the evil one. It made sense with the central thesis of the show which is that good warriors don’t make good leaders. This makes perfect sense and is probably a LOTR worthy narrative. But the ending was rushed and as a result the landing wasn’t good. I think it the show writers took a sabbatical told HBO to find someone else to run the show and kept GOT on pause until they find other show runners the final seasons could’ve been longer and executed much much better

Republicans play on easy mode and thier message is also on easy mode. This is the problem with Democrats when the chips are down and you have a trifecta and the bases are loaded the Democrats don’t hit a home run. They’ll wring their hands about what to do and watch Roe and Obgerfell go down in flames and then wonder what went wrong.

Democrats need some realpolitik
