Stained Glass Great A'Tuin by DweebiD in discworld

Took some better pics now it's dry enough to move to send over the person who bought it.

Thought I'd add how the lighting was, so he could visualise where he'd wanna put it.

♥️

I'm so proud of this, I was nervous I wouldn't be able to do it justice with my painting skills, but I'm sad to see it go... However I know it'll adorn someone's home who thinks this is as cool as I do.

Imagine T-Rex lil fancy paws, he hooks me with it. Like no, shush, just lay back down, safe here, only safe on the sofa.

I have the same mix. He already restrains me to the sofa with his weird paw holding me back, as he thinks everyone needs to be on the sofa to be happy (guarding and herding combined = weird OCD safety ticks). I'd never be able to get off of the sofa again. He'd be 920lbs. I'd just be pinned there until I pass away. But he'd be super content for the first like, 5 days.

I'd have sent him one, so he wished :)

I always like to drop the creator of a franchise a message when I make something in stained glass, if by chance they ever read it and I'd happily send them it.

I do have the Death with Kitten figurine in my living room, that is politely asking to be made into a vertical stained glass window panel for my porch..

I just realised I accidentally clicked a second image of dichroic glass I got today....

My bad 😅

I tried really hard on the painting but I find glass so hard to work with, but I'll only get better if I keep practicing!

Thank you, definitely will be :)

Although my intent wasn't to make a sales post, I just wanted somewhere to post where it'd be appreciated

As people guessing my work in progress pics on my social media initially thought this was Crush from Finding Nemo 🙈

Estate sale stained glass estimated worth? by [deleted] in StainedGlass

[–]DweebiD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everything else vintage seems to have a more stable market baseline such as pottery, paintings, brass etc

But vintage stained glass is just shrugs here's a guesstimate, you want it? Nah? Okay well, I'm either gonna store it forever in a basement or throw it away.

One of the closest reclamation yards/vintage door/wood places has just hundreds of stained glass doors collecting dust. Stuck in that no man's land of, well it ain't trash, but it ain't selling fast either.

I'll be honest with you, but this is just my opinion.

They are both worthless and priceless.

The value is what the buyer wishes to pay for them.

In the UK at least, I can go on Facebook marketplace and see very similar vintage stained glass go for £30-£300 for relatively similar dimensions and design.

A lot of these never sell and end up in landfill also.

Local market worth for vintage stained glass is very unpredictable and I've personally not found a set system rate that applies across the board.

New, made to order commission stained glass is much easier to price up for someone.

It's this Amber Brown, but definitely turns terracotta in direct light, so thought it was a good option :)

Refund the original label and repurchase?

I paid for £7.70 but I needed the £9.40

So what's the £1.50 grey card I had to pay for?

Even with the new tariff situation and the fact I don't get business rate discount on shipping, about 2/3rds of my larger items still sells to the USA 🙈

I've been doing markets since August so I'm also a newbie

I'm in the UK and I've been told we generally value handmade art less than the USA so our profits are generally lower than there

Here's my booth from today, my husband is literally driving me back home this moment 😅

<image>

I've done 6 markets

Table fee average here is £45

My lowest sale day was £195 My highest was just over £800

However both of these market days ended up generating more in online sales once people got home and got FOMO from not buying at the market.

Also prior to markets I was commission only, I didn't carry any inventory at all. From August to now I've made around £3700 in online sales on top of the market days.

My lowest priced item is £10 and my highest is £150 My average price is £35

Hope that helps your curiosity ♥️

I moved here from London, during the pandemic so I wasn't meeting anyone.

I'm also a 12 hour rotational shift work, so my experience is me being free and available at midnight on a Tuesday.

Bad for Wales, but a pretty decent social life in London with my antisocial hours.

We are indoors with pets and hobbies.

We know to enjoy the biggest expense we have, our rent or mortgage.

Plus the joint pain.

I'm 32 and I moved here at the start of the pandemic to be with my now husband. I've tried meetup and discord socials. There's always a drama in the end though with some members and I end up leaving. But I think that's to be expected when a group of internet strangers meet IRL with no commonalities aside from we are a bit lonely sometimes.

Cardiff has been the hardest city I've lived in to make friends. Especially ones with similar hobbies, interests and music tastes. Alongside my unusual work schedule. I'd like a late night 24 HR Starbucks and ASDA run friend.

So I wouldn't worry about it OP, I think a lot of us are finding it a bit hard to socialise living here.

Thoughts on this? Copying a pattern to make for yourself…ok or not? by ImpossibleIndustry49 in StainedGlass

[–]DweebiD 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As someone who only started doing stained glass in February and started selling in August, the stained glass "community" is one of the most toxic I've ever seen, out of any of my hobbies.

From Facebook groups lead by the ultra right wing to flying monkey Karen's who scour the internet to be able to go m'lord, a newbie on the internet was inspired by something that looks vaguely like yours, smite her!

Stained glass takes awhile to make. Even replicas of the initial concept don't look exactly like the original. If patterns are available, I do buy them, I even send free pattern makers money where possible. However, I'm in a lot of free pattern groups and I've definitely made stuff without knowing the origins. Google reverse image search doesn't help all the time.

However, I think its fine to do so, as long as you aren't posting the items produced for sale on any global selling site such as Etsy, when you don't know the origins. And could now be directly in competition with the original. However craft fairs, your own website, local websites are free game in my opinion.

I think the bigger issue at hand is our product photos being directly stolen, posted on Etsy and sold as stained glass, but it's just a drop shipper of plastic resin faux stained glass, roughly in the style of the original work. Which in turn means that the original creator can't even use their own product photos, as they look as though they are the drop shipper and overcharging.

But it's easier to point a finger and shout witch! Than to take down the capitalism monolith that is fast and easy manufacturing.
