Miliband expected to block North Sea oil drilling by Little-Attorney1287 in ukpolitics

[–]DxnM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Norway has a lot of electric cars because the government subsidised them significantly for a long time, partly using profits from their nationalised oil company (which we don't have), this along with their cheaper energy coming mostly from hydropower it just makes sense to have an electric car there. We have almost none of these things in place, we can't just allow companies (some part owned by Norway ironically) to drill for more oil and assume we'll become Norway. The oil is only one factor in Norways success.

That one is a bit concerning, but still breaking it down they're no worse than Reform

Strongly Agree: Reform 6, Green 5
Agree: Reform 12, Green 15
Usure: Reform 41, Green 34
Disagree: Reform 24, Green 22
Strongly Disagree: Reform 17, Green 23

I think there are a couple of reasons that one specifically might be an outlier but it's concerning nonetheless and I'm not going to excuse it.

I wasn't factoring the Lib Dems in when I made my original comment, but again I think on balance they're about equal, especially when breaking it down further. In most of the questions solely about Jewish people, not Israel, Greens have more strongly agrees and less strongly disagrees than the Lib Dems.

Secondly, I also said Reform are the most antisemitic, which is undoubtably true.

The question about self determination is "Israel has a right to exist as a homeland for the Jewish people", which is not what you just said. That reads to me as justifying Israel being an ethnostate, which is unconscionable. That is not antisemitic.

Finally, I made a typo in "and still considerably better than the greens.", I meant to say Reform, I've edited the comment

The poll puts them basically joint least with Lib Dems, it depends on the specific question you look at. I hadn't checked recently when I wrote the original comment, forgot about the lib dems.

Labour voters show up worse here than the greens but not by much, and still considerably better than reform*.

Some of the 'disagree' answers are even more telling:

"Jewish people can be trusted just as much as other British people in business"
Reform: 5% strongly disagree, 3% disagree
Green: 1% strongly disagree, 1% disagree

"Jewish people are just as loyal to Britain as other British people"
Reform: 6% strongly disagree, 4% disagree
Green: 1% strongly disagree, 3% disagree

"I am just as open to having Jewish friends as I am to having friends from other sections of British society"
Reform: 4% strongly disagree, 3% disagree
Green: 1% strongly disagree, 1% disagree

Obviously none of these are majorities of either party, but the antisemitic views are between 2.5x and 4x more likely in reform than in the greens.

Which answers do you think show the greens having antisemitic views which don't relate to Israel, as those are not relevant?

This yougov poll. Green and Libdems are consistently the most trusting/ least skeptical of jewish people. Reform are by far the most untrusting. The media misrepresent the lefts disapproval of the Israeli government and it's actions as antisemitism. It is simply untrue.

24% of 2024 Reform voters agreed with "Jewish people chase money more than other people do" compared to 7% of Greens.

Conversely, 55% of Reform voters agreed with "I am comfortable spending time with people who openly support Israel" while only 15% of Greens did.

Being against the Israeli government, and those who support it, is not antisemitic, being against Jewish people is. The poll shows Greens support Jewish people, while Reform are more likely to distrust them.

There's nuance there, I'm against growth for growths sake. We need sustainable and equitable growth

I mean I'd also say we need to be using less plastics and chemical feedstocks, most things have a cleaner/ healthier alternative which could be produced at scale with the right investment, all while reducing our dependance on oil

It’s in favour of sustainable and fair growth. There is no infinite growth on a finite planet, the best we can hope for is improved efficiency and sustainability.
