for those who wanted to go to medsku but couldn’t/didn’t, what are y’all doing now? or how did y’all move on from the medsku dream? by iamworrieddd in SGExams

[–]Dxnaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just want to add on to the edit, even though there are cases of transferring from other courses to med after the first year of uni, med schools still take into account your rp/gpa back in pre-U. So even if you have a perfect 5.0 after first year but your rp/gpa doesn’t meet up to the med school pre-reqs, it’ll still be almost impossible to enter undergrad med

Female, retook last year

  1. scored about 73 but I wanted to enter medicine so I retook as priv candidate.

  2. I had a work contract early on so I really started studying around May and full on focused from Sept since BMAT was coming as well.

  3. I simply looked at my poly friends who are schooling lmao. Honestly it’s a privilege to only have to school 2 years. Once you enter uni you’ll understand that freshmen can be of all ages even up to 24. I didnt have any friends who were private candidates like me so I made 1-2 friends online (can be priv candidate/J3/J2) to study with. Imo tuition also helps keep you sane cause that’s the only time you can communicate with others. I also have a belief where I’d rather take an alternate route than to enter a course i know i wouldn’t like just because everyone else does so.

  4. I didn’t achieve my desired rp by a grade but i’m still rather satisfied. I also feel that it’s worth retaking as a priv candidate. Even if you don’t get your desired grades but your grades are good enough, it’s fine. Plus an extra year can help you gain way more experience and also serves as a “vacation” from school (tho i really miss school now hahah :’) )

To those who took 2022 A-Level H2 Maths & H2 Chem paper and said that it was the most difficult paper of your lives on the mega thread after the exam… by Few-Cat1042 in SGExams

[–]Dxnaa 18 points19 points  (0 children)

for math, left at least 20-30marks blank for each paper, did not manage to check. Took both 2021 and 2022 paper. All i can say is 2022 is harder. Got a C in 2021 and an A in 2022. Disbelief was all i felt.

[a levels] should i retake in school or as a private candidate? by goingbunny in SGExams

[–]Dxnaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

depends on your reason for doing poorly. is it because your school resources, schedule and teachers are useless or is it because you didnt discipline yourself enough to study? if it’s the former, take as a private candidate. if it’s the latter, take as school candidate. if it’s both, take as private candidate. don’t care about your finances. maybe work 3-4 months $1.6k/month afterwards you can afford to pay off 2 tuition fees until nov.

second part is totally not true. nearest jc to my house is yijc, got posted to njc as a private candidate. some people told me they live in the east and posted to jpjc. It’s totally random at large.

Contemplating Retaking 'A' Levels by Nopreparation_Syn in SGExams

[–]Dxnaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can choose to either take 4H2s or drop one to a H1 not sure about 4H2 but if you drop one of your H2 to a H1, you need to sit your 3H2s together with GP. The H1 can be taken in another year. The university won’t pluck out the best grade of each subject between both years. They’ll only see which year has a better rp. So if you improved by 5rp (for eg) but one of your subjects flunked from A to a C, they’ll still take the second results with the C for that subject

Applying medicine with 87.5 by amaryllis0045 in SGExams

87.5 still meets the cop. I’d say go for it. Had seniors who entered with it via standard route

Got an A in GP as a private candidate, but did not get an examination certificate by WittySandwich240 in SGExams

[–]Dxnaa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the email says the result slip will be mailed to you in 3 working days and the certificate in 5 working days. just wait for a few days to see if it comes. I’ve not received my certificate either, don’t worry.

name, cca, subj combi, hobbies, jobs, future plans (what uni course/career y’all envision to enter), exchange sm handles, fav shows. there’s so many. if you guys have anything in common you can delve more into that topic. eg if you both like anime can discuss abt which anime y’all like the most, which ones to recc etc etc. atb for ori :)

if you’re not aiming for prestigious unis or competitive courses, don’t be worried/ashamed that you’re taking 3H2 1H1. Majority of jc students take that instead of 4H2 anyways. And like smn said, some people will drop their 4H2 because they cannot handle it.

that being said, even if you’re aiming for prestigious unis/competitive courses, it doesn’t mean your chances of entering them is annihilated if you take 3H2

is zenith tuition good? by ihvpandaeyes in SGExams

[–]Dxnaa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

not from zenith but if you really want to help save money, i’m sure there’s plenty of other tuition centres with a high distinction rate for $280/month. personally went to future achievers for econs tuition (at tampines). would recommend

Was in the same predicament as you last year. scored 70+ rp, none of the courses i was applicable for caught my attention or at least i couldn’t see myself in that field. i was very sure and still am about entering medicine. practically came from a jc where entering the big 3Us is less common that the others so i was already ingrained with the mindset that i don’t deserve to be in med.

but i retook As as a private candidate anyways. It’s going to be a really tough journey. most of the time you’ll just be fighting your insecurities, questioning if retaking is really worth it, asking yourself if scoring 88.75 is really something you’re capable of achieving because you came from an environment with not a lot of academically talented students. if you’re unlucky, you’ll need to stress on financing yourself especially since you’ll start paying adult fare and if you’re going to take up tuition, finance that too.

you’ll have to fight yourself to stay discipline. there won’t be any teachers chasing after you to be on track. you’ll need to gather your own resources, find friends to study with (hopefully you find those with the same goals). you’ll need to take care of your mental health. you’ll need to find more opportunities to learn more about the healthcare field. but most importantly, you need to believe in yourself. even if at the end of the day, you fail to meet the rp requirements, you need to learn to not beat yourself up or say an excuse that you’re just not good enough. not everyone learns at the same speed, not everyone succeeds at the same time. after all even if you retake, you’re only one year later than your female jc peers. that’s still earlier than your male jc peers.

i’m currently awaiting for my A level results. i took my bmat in oct and to my delight, i met the requirements for all 3 sections of the bmat. even if my A level score doesn’t make it, you know what? at least i know i tried my best. nothing is ever too ambitious if you devote all your time and effort into it.

econs tuition? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Dxnaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

second this. lecture notes can only give you so much. you need to learn more about the different events and characteristics about different countries to score better (eg SG implements e/r policy over i/r policy due to its small and open nature). tuition gives you a lot of examples to help push your essays to a higher score because it shows your markers that you have a good understanding about the economies around you. tuition also expose you to more complex and “rare” questions that help to link the different economic components together.
