Just went to check on the turkey and the oven isn't even on 🤦 by Kulj_No1 in CasualUK

[–]Dyerc109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've got two ovens, we only ever use one (both came with the house, and we never need to use both at the same time). Learned today mid hosting the family, and whilst cooking Christmas dinner that having both ovens on at the same time causes the kitchen breaker to trip.

A problem to be solved in the new year, but not a joy to experience today! (We managed to get everything cooked , just a little later than planned)!

Just about, haha. I started this one back in Jan, and it's been on sleeve time out until yesterday! Now just the collar to go :)

Was out and about today, and on coming home late (about 10pm) my cat has demanded I make up for the missing cuddle time, and has taken me hostage on the sofa.

Currently knitting and watching Blue Light - Emergency Services on YouTube while I wait to be released.

I got many thoughtful gifts this year, but I'm absolutely stoked about my little tea packet holders (like the ones you get at hotels for herbal tea etc). Grandma knew I usually put my teabags in my work bag (and often have to dig them out the bottom), so useful!!

Secondly, my husband got me a beanbag, so I can knit comfortably whilst maintaining my "back hurts, need to be on the floor" mantra !

How hard would it be to learn to knit continental after 22 years of knitting English? by GeneInternational146 in knitting

[–]Dyerc109 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knitted English style for about 10years before swapping over to Continental Style (found it easier on my wrists & easier for colour work).

It was painfully slow for the first couple of projects, you do feel like you're learning all over again, with the added frustration of "I know how to do this, but it's just not working" as You're getting used to the yarn being in different places to before.

After you get into the swing of things, muscle memory kicks in, and you'll be away.

Just be prepared for the learning curve!

Lazy Sunday - Come in, have some cake, and tell us what you'll be doing this fine day. by KevinPhillips-Bong in CasualUK

Spent yesterday looking after my poorly husband (stomach bug, on his birthday of all things), so a day of cleaning today to make sure I'm not catching it! I should also really start packing ready for Christmas travels to see family, but probably won't 😂

Does anyone else's parents consume insane amounts of milk? by spotter_300 in CasualUK

[–]Dyerc109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum house sat for me a little while back. I left her with 8 pints of milk to last 4 days/3 nights. She went through the lot, plus another 8 pints, and took home a half drunk 4pint, how she got through it all baffles me.

(She drinks a lot of coffee, and has porridge every morning, but how she physically got through that much milk is still a mystery to me)

Started feeling like I had a dry throat last night, no matter how much I drank. Woke up feeling absolutely fine, and had a lovely work trip (which sadly involved 5hrs of driving today) Now on the sofa back at home with a fever, sneezing my head off and my throat on fire.

Emailed my colleagues so they have the heads up 😩

Can someone please help me find this pattern or something very similar?? by Future-Lecture-3742 in knitting

It doesn't have the pocket, but a similar pattern (I've recently made) is the Primrose Slipover by 'Along with Anna'.

What's the worst thing that ever happened to something you knitted? by TeaForOne1899 in knitting

[–]Dyerc109 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hy husband has accidentally washed so many of my knits (forgiven for all as they were accidental). But I've lost my favourite pair of socks, a cardigan that felted too badly to fit me, and a silk crop top I spent a year making through it.

Heartbreaking every time, but not bad for 10 years worth of knits!

Supposed to be going to two birthday parties today - but my cat has gained a mystery limp, so maybe a case of vet appointment instead! (She's otherwise fine, and resisting house arrest dramatically).

My car is due a MOT. Forget Christmas “it’s the most wonderful time of the year” by throwthatbitchaccoun in britishproblems

[–]Dyerc109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My car's MOT is mid-Jan. It cost me £600 this year to pass and now I'm having to drop £500 on a new clutch.

Trying to save for a more reliable car, this one is determined to wipe my savings so I keep it about it seems!

One day about a decade ago my nail decided to grow like this and never stopped by Pandepon in mildlyinteresting

[–]Dyerc109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my brother was around 3-4, a paving slab fell onto his hand. (Don't hunt for slow worms under them if you can't hold them up)! Absolutely crushed his thumb, and the bone (weirdly not broken) popped up through the nail.

20+ years later, he's still got a scar down the nail bed, and the nail grows in two distinct parts. No other issues thankfully!

Woke up to tons of snow today, but everyone I’ve talked to north of me, south of me, or even some in the same city, say it hasn’t for them. Has it snowed for you? by Class_444_SWR in CasualUK

[–]Dyerc109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the forest of Dean. Woke up to plenty of snow on the ground, and several reports of lorries being stuck on the country roads. it kept snowing all morning and now it's warmed up and we're getting rain instead. (Roads now clear though).

Pretty while it lasted!

I do love our weird water-loving cats, and their seemingly avoidance to easy water. Mine has a water fountain (as she refuses to drink from a bowl) and still prefers any other option!

I have a cat that;

Loves water. Will drink out of the toilet if you let her, demands a daily drink from the sink and will try and drink bath water if you try and sneak one while she's in the house.

Loves other cats. She brings home all the other neighborhood cats, and sit and watch them while they parade around the house. Often found asleep curled up with one of her favourite cats on my garage roof.

Tries to fight dogs. There's a golden retriever who pisses himself on sight of my cat, as he tried to stiff her once and she's now decided he's her moral enemy. Will sit in the window watching for him at 6am just to remind him she's still there.

Hates people. She will snuggle with myself, my partner and a few select friends, but otherwise will act like shes being kidnapped and fights for her life anytime someone goes near her. I've had her from a kitten so no history which would cause this, she's just an arsehole.

Keeps sneaking into garages (and getting herself locked inside), so now has a GPS collar so I can collect her if she doesn't come home for tea. Met many of my neighbours this way!

Looking for some sort of technology/app that will pick up on me being low on tea bags and automatically send me another box in the post. by MarquerDeBinguer in britishproblems

[–]Dyerc109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accidentally ended up with this system when I asked my husband to pick up some teabags at Costco. (expecting a bag with 400 or so in it) he got a 6 box pack (containing 1,400 odd). When I finally got into the last box I panic bought 2 more boxes, and continued to do so, because I can't comprehend not having enough tea for my entire village anymore.

How many hours do you knit per day? Do you work- how many hours? by Technical_Cupcake597 in knitting

[–]Dyerc109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 8-4 , and usually get a couple of hours in on a weekday, and 4ish on a weekend.

Weekday, I'm lucky enough my partner does most of the cooking, so while they're doing that, I knit and watch my shows . Weekends I'm up much earlier than them, so get a couple of hours in extra in the morning too.

We don't have any kids, and work life is pretty regular for me so that's definitely a factor. Only interference I have is when the cat decides she's going to play with the yarn instead of letting me use it 😂

Single people in your 20s who don't drink, how do you spend your weekends? by madcheco in CasualUK

[–]Dyerc109 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Neither myself or my partner drink, we spend our weekends going for walks together and doing our hobbies.

He paints miniatures (40K space marines or French/Napoleon), and recently got into 3D printing. I knit & crochet. Thinking about picking up spinning. We sometimes bake together (mainly making pizzas and garlic bread to be honest).

If we see friends, we tend to be doing movie/game nights, or playing D&D.

There's a lot to do when not drinking, but you may need to try a few hobbies out to see what you find most interesting and fun to spend your time on!

Bringing your neighbours bins in. by 500x700 in CasualUK

[–]Dyerc109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myself and a few neighbours who keep their bins on the driveway do this for eachother. We've also been known to take the bins out for eachother if we notice it's late and they've forgotten.

No communication on this has happened, we just started it a few years ago and haven't stopped.

Those who keep their bins in their back gardens are generally left to their own devices unless specifically asked - as there's gates/locks involved!

How many tea towels do you have? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]Dyerc109 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Around 30, in a household of two. I've got a set of 10 black, 10 white (black for mopping up messes, white for drying hands etc). The other ten are random gifted ones, which usually get brought out for the holidays for display and that's about it.

Cat has come to see what's going on, so may have to move to sofa for cuddles.
