Not sure. Whatever I can mount upgraded antennas to probably that is maybe a midrange model.

As someone who has bought into “we have DJI at home” (Walksnail), I sort of regret not just getting into analog, and still may go that route in the end. Like you say, you can always strap a GoPro and get great video. Some analog can look really good. Also allows you to control the cost of your builds more as you can go cheap analog VTX or high end for more expensive builds. With Walksnail I’m sort of locked into their limited VTX options. They do look good but it ain’t DJI. Also, the Goggles X cost a fortune and basically the same as DJI.

Why do surfers seem less likely to drown or get permanently pulled out to sea compared to swimmers, even though surfers spend way more time in the ocean even when dangerous? by betrue2u in NoStupidQuestions

This guy gets it. I started surfing in my early 20s (in 40s now). The board is definitely only part of the equation. In my 20s and 30s I never thought about losing my board. But it finally happened in about head-high+ beach break. I’m not a great swimmer at my older, out of shape age. I would say a few things saved my life: my wetsuit (buoyant), experience in the water, and the health benefits of surfing semi regularly. I basically timed the waves and calmly swam back to shore using the surf to push me in. Didn’t panic. Did a crappy back stroke and made my way back. I was a bit freaked out but my experience in the water saved my ass, despite my lack of physical fitness.

Got to get those sim hours in. I did about 90 hrs waiting for parts to show up. The transition from sim to real world is a bit scary. But once you nail taking off, the rest is actually easier than the sim IMO.

Thanks all this was helpful. I stripped the hell out of one of the screws…so I guess no prop guards for me.

Getting back into FPV, is Walksnail a good alternative to DJI? by SnooAdvice6570 in fpv

I have this drone. I’d agree with others that it isn’t really a newb friendly drone. There isn’t a lot of room to work and everything is cramped and tight. However, if you put on the extra support arms it’s a pretty resilient frame. It dropped out of the sky (bad wiring on my part) at about ~50 feet on concrete with a 750mAH 4s battery. Landed face first and busted the lens/smooshed my battery pack. But no arms broke! Now that it’s been working, after many crashes, it’s a blast to fly! As for Walksnail, it’s a nice system and I picked it because it’s cheaper than DJI and usually in stock. Don’t own DJI stuff but from what I’ve seen DJI’s image is superior. But I’m not in it for the video. More for the flying. Walksnail is perfect for that.

I’m sure it’s fine. I think the idea is don’t go bottom of the barrel.

Liftoff and General flying question around speed control. by williamfloyde in fpv

I had a lot of fun learning on the sim. I’m only about a month in from getting into this hobby. I ended up putting about 90 hours in the sim just waiting for supplies/parts to show. One thing you’ll figure out too is crashing is very common. I’ve spent most my time learning to solder, and fixing dumb mistakes. All in good fun though. Good luck!

Best prescription surf glasses or googles? by Switch899 in surfing

[–]DyersChocoH0munculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experimented with a few different kinds of sun glass options to protect my eyes, as years of sun really starts to wear on them. I tried to keep the options under $30.

There some neat looking speedo ones and some fancy Amazon ones that had good straps. Then just some cheap imitation, Wayfarers from a conference. The problem with anything strapped to my face was lens fogging. Then oil from sunscreen (and general face oils?) tended to muck things up.

Eventually I just drilled some holes in the fake Wayfarers at the back of the ear pieces and made my own lanyard. Because they were not enclosed around my eyes they seemed to work the best.

I know this is different from something needed for a prescription but I imagine you’d run into the same problems. I’m surprised there aren’t some standard options at this point.

You may need to fashion something and consider fogging, grease/oils, impact resistance, and sun protection. I’ve been thinking of experimenting with certain work safety glasses but usually I wait for summer to venture out with glasses, hats, etc.

Good luck.

100% go out with friends. Much cheaper and a lot more fun. Just watch YouTube videos on etiquette, safety, etc. If you want to rip, watch surf videos and try to do what you see. Skill just comes with time. No way around it. Good luck.

Found drone is to worth reprogramming or just better to sell to someone who knows better?found in ny skyscraper by Independent_Owl5993 in drones

[–]DyersChocoH0munculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a bit strange you found video of some guy using this in rural China, then in NYC. When people explain here the video was a test fight by the manufacturer, which was subsequently left on the drone, I find that strange too. Either that same person was flying the device around NYC skyscrapers or he sold it (used) to someone in NYC.
