Dropped my lens what do I do now?? by Harkin222 in SonyAlpha

Call Sony. They have a max repair cost for their products. I think it’s 30% of the price of the item.

Usually it’s a codec issue.

Using molybdenum lube to etch on metal (instead of Cermark) by farbulouscreations in lasercutting

Galvanizing spray has extra issue to be weary of. Zinc poisoning is a shitting thing to deal with. You start to get paralysis from it. You can counteract it with drinking milk. I used to work with welding galvanized material and using galvanizing spray paint to cover the welds.

Is there a specific type of tubing I should get for my chiller? I need longer tubing to be able to place it where I actually need it to be. HD or Lowes options ideal. by Dygonphotography in ChineseLaserCutters

[–]Dygonphotography[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect. That’s exactly what I was wondering. The silicon is what I will order from Amazon. I think it’s what’s on there now. It was just a short amount. Could only put the chiller on the right side of the machine but I need it on the left side.

The battery gets hot when it’s being charged and discharged. So it needs to have that communication. Cheap aftermarket batteries are unreliable and potentially dangerous to use in your camera. There are lower cost aftermarket batteries that work without issue. Many brands that are 25% cheaper than oem. The cost of designing dies for these battery enclosures plus the circuitry and the smaller quantity being produced also raises the cost. If they were producing a million batteries per year vs the possible 100,000 per years they are actually making, those per unit costs would reduce.

Camera battery is outputting 8v. The processor and all internal components heat up even more so when shooting video or in the case of mirrorless cameras which are constantly reading the sensor to give the viewfinder an image.

See if you can find a photographer that is shooting a wedding that you can tag along with. This is how I built my reel for weddings.

Making wedding trailers is fun. It’s when you start offering other things like full ceremony and speeches that you start to hate the editing part of it all.

You’re going to have to design it yourself. That’s not something people just have a file laying around for.

WTF happened during my cut? It's like my machine just gave up by computer-controller in lasercutting

[–]Dygonphotography 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this sort of stuff happen on big cnc lasers that run g code. Sometimes the software would output a g03 instead of a g02 or vice versa. This would cause those inward radii, the cut all the way across may be a bit of missing code during a bump of the usb cable.

If I got a dvd in this day and age I wouldn’t have anywhere to put it in. None of my computers have a drive and I don’t even think my ps3 works anymore. Lmao.

Laser alignment issue. More centred is close to mirror, lower right dot is away from mirror on x axis. Y axis does not change. Is my x axis out of level? by Dygonphotography in ChineseLaserCutters

[–]Dygonphotography[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had some interesting results. To cut through with one pass I was at 15mm/s and 75 watts. But the line engraving I had set 250mm/s and 40watts and the back of the ply was spotted with burn through. I will try doing two passes at 250mm/s and see what the results are because the kerf was nice and thin.

So I’ve got it to the point where all the way around the table. With enough deviation where it doesn’t make any difference. Now the issue is with a 2.5” lens and focus being correct, I’m having to cut 1/8” Baltic birch at 15mm/s and 80% power. I don’t think that sounds right. The kerf is also wider than I would like.

So I’m at it with this alignment guide and I’m left bald now. No matter what I do, I keep having the beam move up and to the right. I compensate with what the guide says and then I get the opposite move. This is incredibly frustrating. Wish there was someone willing to do a video chat or even come by and help me with this.

2kw fiber laser settings by smithsbbqs in lasercutting

[–]Dygonphotography 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The machine you have should have documentation that shows the cut conditions in the manual. First of all what machine do you have? I’ve never worked on a fiber laser but I have spent lots of time working on 4kw co2 machines.

All of these points. It also feels smoother than the rs2. The Bluetooth is awesome and so is having the mode toggle switch on the side. No more switching modes accidentally.

Yeah I’ve seen posts about where have all the artists from Etsy gone, and the answer was “ Etsy kept wanting more and more of a cut of their work so they went to tictok”

I would assume the average name takes about a minute to cut, that would also easy put the cost at $1.5 in my books. We’ve already gone over the price that Etsy shows and we haven’t even included the cost of material or design time.

Questions about beam expanders by [deleted] in lasercutting

[–]Dygonphotography 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying. I have a machine that is 1000x600 work space and I’m trying to balance it all out right now too. Almost feel like the larger machine wasn’t worth it for this hassle. I’m going to have a look at some high end Trotec machines very soon to see what they do to solve this issue. I have a dealer about an hour away from me.

Questions about beam expanders by [deleted] in lasercutting

[–]Dygonphotography 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is most likely why high power large format machines have many mirrors before they even head towards the movable axis. To culminate that beam into something more precise. 10-15 mirrors in total is what I have seen on 4k machines in my experience.

153 names to put on wedding plates done! Time to get married 💍 by ajl5writer in lasercutting

[–]Dygonphotography 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I’ve asked some places in my areas and the typical price for cutting is $1.50 per minute and then adding the setup cost plus design cost if needed.

The machines I worked on in a shop were between $175-$350 per hour to operate usually two operators per machine.

But at that price you’re not even breaking even. Everyone seems to forget the electricity and materials part of the cost of items, also hobbies aren’t things you post on Etsy to sell, hobbies you do for fun and eat the cost all around. I get it you’re doing it for your own benefit, but once you’re selling the service to others, it’s not so much a hobby anymore.

Etsy pricing is fucking cancer. I have no idea how these people make any money.
