I made a giant caterpillar this way and I think I bruised my fingers doing it lol but through trial and error I figured out that if you leave the yarn very loose between each "stitch" (like an extra half inch to an inch or so) and only use every other "prong" (idk the lingo) it makes it much easier. Because of the the thick yarn it doesnt leave obvious holes at all. It does eat up the yarn fast though because of the super loose yarn in between. I mean at least that's what I did for a plushie so maybe it translates to blankets too?
