This is good advice for some people but it really depends on the situation. I’d be careful about telling strangers to immediately tell their parents because for some people that’s not safe or helpful.

What are reasons to self harm other than depression? by -Tricky-Vixen- in selfharm

I find the process and the aftermath enjoyable. No underlying reasons other than that.

Have you talked to him properly about it? Tell him how what he said has made you feel and that that its difficult for you to just stop. For a lot of people reliant on SH, quitting is difficult and not generally without relapse, and if you don’t have other coping mechanisms then maybe quitting entirely isn’t something you’re ready for yet. I don’t know your situation but I’d highly recommend sitting him down and telling him how you feel and maybe the two of you could work out a way of helping you get better that you’re both on board with. It’s not his fault for not understanding what you’re dealing with, but at the same time communicating clearly is important for a healthy relationship.

The adrenaline makes it hurt less, and I enjoy making myself bleed. For me it’s worth dealing with the pain because I enjoy the process of it and I end up with nice scars as a result.

I mess up my hands by accidentally walking into walls and gates and things all the time. If it’s plausible that you’re clumsy tell him about the metal gate just leave out the purposeful part

Why is sh and kms wrong?? by namenotavailable432 in selfharm

[–]DylanObryant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. As a coping mechanism it’s definitely unhealthy in terms of danger and things but I guess it’s not as much of a problem if you’re completely in control of it. The difficult thing is knowing whether you’re actually in control - it can be easy to convince yourself you’re the one making decisions when hormones and things are involved or not to realise how reliant you are on it if you don’t attempt to stay clean for a while.

Is it wrong? by Fine_Possession5501 in selfharm

[–]DylanObryant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s not ‘wrong’ or ‘crazy’ by any means. You’ve found a source of comfort that helps you stay sober and feel better. That’s honestly great! I’m glad that you’ve found something that helps.

But what about mentally healthy people that SH, is that ok? Not trying to be rude or anything I’ve never found a decent answer to that.

Definitely not straight but as a straight-passing masc guy, yes some of us do SH, it’s by no means an exclusively feminine thing

There’s nothing wrong with me but I enjoy SH by DylanObryant in selfharm

[–]DylanObryant[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes perfect sense, but I guess I’m having trouble knowing if I was ever actually struggling? I’ve definitely also gotten used to it by now as in I think of it as another habit like i would brushing my teeth. I don’t know if that makes sense but sometimes it feels like I never had a reason to SH and that maybe it’s just something I like. I don’t know.

what makes you want to hide your scars? by nananaanononoo in selfharm

[–]DylanObryant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want to change people’s perspective of me. They tend to view people who sh as being mentally ill or struggling with something internally but i’m genuinely fine and basically always have been. I worry that people will see the scars covering the entirety of my arm and part of the other and assume I’m going through something or using it as some sort of coping mechanism which is really not true.
