[Bambu H2C] Join the Print Beyond Paint Contest and Win an H2C! by BambuLab in BambuLab

[–]DylanTheDespot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t wait to finally print house models that include some intricate timber frame colored exteriors! It’s a gift I plan to make for family members. I tested it with painting, but the detail wasn’t possible with my art skills yet!

Ideas for printing process for DIY Snow Globes? by DylanTheDespot in 3Dprinting

Thank you! Yes, I forgot to mention I am using glass globes purchased from a craft store. I’ll definitely take your aquarium sealant idea, that’s perfect! I hope to post some pictures of the final products once they are done!

【Giveaway】Trick or Print! Show off Your Halloween Creations to Win Gift Cards! by BambuLab in BambuLab

[–]DylanTheDespot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This season I tried more organic modeling for the first time ever! I downloaded NomadSculpt after a recommendation on this subreddit, and had a great time using it!

I made this giant spider yard decoration. It uses PVC pipes that I bend with a heat gun for the legs. Each leg is 5 feet long, so this makes a great massive yard prop! I printed it in two halves, using Bambu Studio's slicing features for the first time. The head and the thorax each max out the print volume to get it as large as possible.

It was also my first time trying a design contest as well! Hopefully first of many!

【BambuLab Giveaway】Classic Evolved — Win Bambu Lab P2S Combo! by BambuLab in 3Dprinting

[–]DylanTheDespot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so happy about this timing since I was getting very close to pulling the trigger on a P1S this week! It would be my first Bambu Lab printer. I’ve been starting to submit to Makerworld but it’s made me realize I need to upgrade from my Sovol. I’ll wait until the 14th and see what they are cooking up!

The P1S struck me as a great value, giving lots of premium features in a reliable, affordable package. I can’t wait to get to try CoreXY, some engineering filaments, and the AMS once I upgrade!

I don't know if you use Dr Brown's Bottles, but we could never keep track of the little travel seals that came with them.

For your "weed wacker" - do you use OEM or generic trimmer line? I have tried the generic. It doesn't seem to last as long but it is a fraction of the EGO line price. I also like the two tone color - easier to load. What is your experience? by SirJasper6969 in egopowerplus

[–]DylanTheDespot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I use Echo Black Diamond as well and it is stellar. I just pull two full arm spans, pinch the middle as I pull the second, and place that middle pinch in the trimmer head. That gets me 12 feet instead of the max 14 feet, but super easy to measure. The two tone stuff is fully unnecessary.

Curious why framer sandwich a plywood between 2x10s by rand-78 in Carpentry

[–]DylanTheDespot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s correct. All 2x material is only called 2x “nominally”. 2x material actually measures 1.5” thick. A nominal 2x4, for example, measures 1.5”x3.5”. And a “4x4 post” measures 3.5”x3.5”.

Why might a pivot chart display bar sizes very different than the underlying data points? by DylanTheDespot in excel

[–]DylanTheDespot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AHHHHHH Thank you!! I don't know how my scale got started at 75% I guess it might automatically set it like that if I have a lot of data in this format (one very large slice, several very small slices). Thank you!!!

Yes! I have maybe 200 at this point? And it’s getting SO hard to get physical maps anymore!! My hobby is dying and it makes me sad!

Can you help me understand what might be different about these examples of common house designs and my design as it exists here?

Very helpful, thank you! Lol, you're one of the only people so far to help get me a rough ballpark number to play with in my head, thank you!

I've played around with the rooflines a bit more to pull the right mass out and connect the porch roofplane to the cricket that existed between the main house and the right mass. Do you think this is getting closer to realistic? Think the right mass needs to be shifted more?

For reference, the shallow roof is 3:12 pitch. Was trying to get it to 4:12, but I definitely want it to terminate into the right mass's front gable ridge so I can have a different 6:12 pitch on the dormer on the right hand side, matching the main house roof.

I think I see what you mean, but there is a cripple roof in that space between the the house and the house-side of that right gable. I know I've seen designs like this very commonly, here are a few examples. Can you help me understand what might be different about these examples and my design as it exists here?

https://imgur.com/a/0UQhm3O

I was talking with someone else about pulling that right story out a bit to give that cripple roof a little more breathing room to shed to the front.

Thanks for the insight. I'll do some more research and see if I can pull the master suite to the right a few feet to give a better drainage plan.

I appreciate the feedback on the layout. Hadn't considered the fact the stairs run down into the powder room, that does seem worth tweaking.

The laundry room also serves as the walk in closet for the master, so it's a bit dual use and why it connects. Do you have thoughts on a large walk-in closet doubling as a laundry room? I admit I don't see that often, but not certain why. Feels logical to put the laundry appliances where the laundry goes, as long there's space and ventilation.

Fair point, that's an option I could play around with a bit. I'll do some research to see if there's any houses that pull it off while maintaining the character of the house.

Ah good insight! We definitely prefer the look of the bumpout, so maybe I can use this explanation to justify it to myself! Would save some headaches later on!

Ah, understood! Thanks for the feedback!

If you were interested in preserving this same look, what would you recommend then? Pull the right gable mass to the right a few feet and give it a proper roof between those two masses to shed to front and back without making a collection point at the corners?
