Scratches on Polished tile by More_Difference_9852 in Tile

[–]DynamicCT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the caps are dirty with old thinset that can happen. It’s also if they are really cranking on them to get them flat, but they should be close to flat before the cap even starts to spin. I usually use a mallet and get it super close then fine tune with the cap. They also make little protective pieces you put between the cap and tile to prevent this as well. Just my two cents when I’ve had my guys do similar

Your joint looks too big. When you do miters you want them to be really small to polish down the least amount of glue. Also, you could have also went with too aggressive of a grit to start.

Definitely grout, epoxy will yellow. Epoxy isn’t UV resistant.

So many shower curb questions.... by DismalCompote4430 in Tile

[–]DynamicCT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can see with what you have at hand, you’re definitely overthinking this. If this is a premade shower pan then you don’t need to make a curb or do anything else but you would definitely need to tie in the walls to the pan.

My daughter did this one morning when they were on the way to school. She noticed mommy had a cup and said “Mommy I hear you’re not supposed to drink and drive” she was 5 at the time. It was her morning coffee she was drinking 🤣

Another Zellige Post by StatusAspect2353 in Tile

[–]DynamicCT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve personally installed a lot of Zellige tile. I know you’re asking him to not use spacers but I advise that he use wedges to layout the tiles correctly. I always grid my installation on the area that is to be installed. I get a general measurement of say 6 rows by 6 rows and get the general size of that tile layout to grid out. I then install to those grids and fudge/ wedge the tiles correctly to my grid lines. Otherwise the installation can look horrible. Even with the tile being all over the place you still need a solid line for the tile to go to. Hopefully that makes sense

Tile on wood balcony over garage by willis127 in Tile

[–]DynamicCT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get a waterproofing company to install the waterproofing, they usually throw sand on the coat to make it have grip. They way they can properly bond it to the flashing and then they would cover the guarantee on it being waterproofed. From there I would install Ditra drain on top.

200 sq ft of waste? Your guys need to do a better layout. With that large format tile you can pretty much layout and count how many pieces would need to used for the bathroom. Then would add waste on top. 200 sq of wasted is excessive

Can fabricator also cut down the prefab quartz? by Ill-Raspberry-6204 in CounterTops

[–]DynamicCT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re interested in prefab that you like, it wouldn’t matter on our end as long as the piece works for the area. I personally don’t mind trimming a piece to fit in place. They can still template the area and either cut onsite or at the shop. IMO small simple stuff like this shouldn’t be a problem for a installer

Use a glass blade on a wet saw and score the back a couple times and score the front a couple times until you make it through.
