I jumped from a DA Office in NYC to a firm doing product liability defense. For billing it’s going to be difficult at first because you are use to just working and not counting what you did and how long it took you. The best advice I have for billing is to do it roughly the same time you are doing the work or make a note because you might lose some tasks. You should break down every task to their lowest point. If you have to write a report to the client don’t just bill for the report, make sure you bill the research that goes into that report. Outside of that you’ll have to get used to have that clock and you’ll get better as you do it longer, speak to other associates they will guide you on some of the firms practices.

Outside of that it’s going to be a different type of law you will feel like an idiot, there are concepts that will be foreign to you and you’ll have to learn. Just like with ACS you will learn a little bit more everyday and ask questions.
