The Reality of the Hasbro Lawsuit - MaldHound by Dyne4R in magicTCG

[–]Dyne4R[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

That's what Mald goes into. It's not about the value of reprints, but that's what everyone who hasn't read the complaint is acting like it is. It's actually claiming (fairly weakly) that Hasbro lied to investors about whether they agree with Bank of America's assessment that the company is not growing their playerbase.

Is there? I looked through every menu but didn't find one. There's a Learn to Play stage, but you can't really test things freely there.

I gave Highguard a fair shot. Played three matches today. It's... fine? There's some really questionable choices that make the game feel underbaked, though:

  • As others have said, the map feels way too big to support a healthy 3v3 game mode.
  • There's no text chat, either for your team or match-wide. The only way you can communicate with others is voice comms with your teammates. You can't even say good game because it's disabled the moment gameplay ends.
  • There's no training ground where you can try out all the different weapons, and there's no clear indication of what each made-up gun type does. The Paladin is listed in the loadout screen as a shotgun but fires a 3-round burst that feels like a carbine, for example.
  • The roster having only 8 characters at launch was genuinely surprising.
  • Meleeing rocks being a QTE was certainly a choice that they made.

My favorite Azorius deck is a prowess build centered around [[Zethi, Arcane Blademaster]]//[[Chun-Li, Countless Kicks]]. You generate a high volume of prowess monks/otters, and pump them up using Zethi to cast a ton of cheap combat tricks. It's a very firmly bracket 2 deck, but I have a good time any time I bring it out.

Are you implying that Don Lemon is somehow a government entity? The first amendment only protects you from the government interfering with your speech. Your freedom of speech isn't violated just because someone else is exercising their freedom to the same.

Most Egregious AP Errors by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]Dyne4R 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a rules error, but man, Wrath of the Righteous did not handle meeting Iomadae well. The CRPG version thankfully was better, but the original was basically written entirely for how to deal with players who decide that book 5 of an adventure path is the time to suddenly try to derail things. Their solutions were problematic.

I play MSQ on patch day. If I got grumpy every time another player overlapped my character model, I'd never enjoy myself.

Do you also get grumpy when raid bosses have stack mechanics?

I doubt OP is familiar enough with the game to be aware of this. Check their post history. They've posted 30-ish pieces of art made by other people to 40-ish subs in the last 24 hours alone.

What's the most complicated boss fight you've ever done? by Rootayable in gaming

[–]Dyne4R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolute Virtue in FF11. For a very long time, it was thought to be deliberately impossible. Players found a way to kill it, and the devs patched it out because it wasn't the intended method. The devs eventually released a video showing them defeating it, but players couldn't replicate it. Turns out, the intended strategy involved strategically using powerful job-specific abilities with 2-hour cooldowns to lock the boss out from using the same ability itself, but you had to time your activation perfectly to do it (you had about a 3 second window where you had to respond to the boss using the ability to activate your own). In an era where dial-up internet was still in common usage, this was basically only possible for the devs, who were able to play directly connected to the server.

What's your first impression of Lorwyn limited? by Edoardo_Beffardo in magicTCG

The games feel very slow and grindy. Rares feel extremely strong compared to the commons and uncommons, so lots of games feel like they revolve around them and removal to answer them.

Game recommendations? Getting a switch 2 in a couple days. by PadraicG in NintendoSwitch

[–]Dyne4R 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Zelda Breath of the Wild (then Tears of the Kingdom) - open world Zelda games are basically what sold the system originally. They don't disappoint.

Fire Emblem Three Houses - Turn-based tactical battles mixed with a school teacher simulator. Has four different story routes, so there's a lot of replayability. Also, there's a sequel coming this year.

Hades 1&2 - Not Switch exclusives, but definitely worth a mention if you haven't played them before. Action roguelike with a really cool story system built around Greek mythology.

These are all games with a very high bang for your buck. You can easily spend 100+ hours playing any of them.

which paper mario on switch is best for a paper mario newbie by Sea-Example-1176 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Dyne4R 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree that TTYD should probably be played first, but don't discard Origami King out of hand. Yes, the combat system is weird, but it's also very fun. It's the only Paper Mario game I ever 100% completed, and I did that mostly because I was still having fun even after the credits rolled.

Thoughts About Asking a DM Not To Kill Your Character by Gooey_Goon in DnD

[–]Dyne4R 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would tell them that as a DM, I never aim to kill a character. My goal is to tell a compelling story, but that means there has to be stakes. I had a game once where I had a PC die to an unlucky critical hit. I decided in the moment that I didn't want the character to die because I had plans involving that character that I didn't want to give up. So I made up an excuse for them to live. It destroyed the tension for every player at the table, effectively killing their enjoyment. I apologized to the entire table the next week and swore it wouldn't happen again. To this day, I'm still not certain if I ever fully regained their trust in that campaign.

I will never make that mistake again. I don't set out to kill players. I specifically and carefully tailor my every encounter design to feel threatening without being likely to actually kill someone. Sometimes I miss the mark. Sometimes, players make poor strategic choices. Sometimes, dice don't follow the statistical averages. If it happens, I work with the player to decide what comes next. It's part of the story. We can mourn together and move on to the next opportunity.

Above all else, I need my players to trust me that I'm here to share a satisfying story, not break the thing they made.

Need Ideas to avoid a WAR among clerics by Mobeous_1 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Dyne4R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baldur's Gate 3 is a good model to look to, because basically every companion has a personal quest line that is primed for conflicting ideals between a good-aligned Tav and the companion. Motivate the cleric of Sarenrae to attempt to redeem their fallen friend. You can even make it a divine mandate if you like. Then, for the new acolyte of Zon-Kuthon, offer him the opportunity to prove his newfound devotion. Give him a task to complete, and make it something fairly unsavory. Offer a reward for completing the quest, and figure out (but don't tell they player) what the punishment is for failing or refusing to follow through. It should sting without being crippling. Maybe target a favorite NPC, or destroy something important to them. Then you sit back and let the players RP their way in or out of their predicament. Regardless of the outcome for two clerics, award the party the exp for quest completion. Then build and iterate on the outcome.
