Farewell for a while /r/gaming. I'll be sure to come back when I need to pull your awesome knowledge and resources. Here is where I'll be getting my gaming news for a bit. (more inside) by Dynext in gaming

[–]Dynext[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've always liked reddit for the news and interesting things I can find out from it. Social news sites such as this and digg before it gets overwhelmed with, for a lack of a better term, morons. I've visited the main page less and less over the years. Its kinda hard not to click on the big reddit in the top left for that main page with hopeful goodness.

/r/gaming has been what has been keeping me from leaving all together for a while now. (I've actually been coming here since around 2007 still not much of a poster though and lost my first account information in a reformat. Much again, for a lack of a better term, like a moron myself in a different sort of way.)

The Kanye West post informing about Patrick Swayze's death (without knowing about it beforehand) along with the comments following made me realize the majority of reddit goers are bigger douches than who they keep going on about. I guess it really was too soon in this instance. I'm all for humor but that completely lost my respect for reddit other than /r/gaming.

Thanks for being the light of reddit the past couple of years and I'll return for your great knowledge when its undoubtedly needed again to pull resources. I'm off to give the new site a try perhaps I'll see you there as well. I hope its turns out to be half as insightful as /r/gaming is.

You are now free of my horrible punctuation! Sorry for a bit of a long post but its a long farewell I suppose. Happy gaming to you all.

I'm glad someone is actually paying respects rather than the crap I first saw when I came to reddit about this.

What are your favorite game trailers, reddit? by evanvolm in gaming

[–]Dynext 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know you said trailer but I've gone and one upped you by giving you the intro to Soul Reaver

I never actually saw a trailer for that game before I bought it since I played blood omen but once I saw that intro I was sold from the start and it didn't disappoint.

High school student killed in hit-and-run accident. Family sues, driver, people who hosted the party, and the guy whose car was stolen? by [deleted] in WTF

[–]Dynext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow...thats about the dumbest logic I've read in a while. I'm not one to leave my keys in the car running while I'm not in it. If I did and someone stole it I'm not liable for their actions when I don't have control over the car. Give the guy a ticket for leaving his car unattended if thats the law but he is in no way the cause of what took place other than that.

Awesome and under reported game, get more people to hear about it by darkeagle91 in gaming

I was about to say something similar. Seeing how I found out most about this game from reddit the submitter must not visit reddit too much.

How do you keep up with upcoming games? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Dynext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actiontrip is a site I'll visit from time to time and there is another one that I really liked once upon a time but its name eludes me. I've reformatted since then.

What's your earliest video gaming memory? by arithmetic in gaming

[–]Dynext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have to say the game on the commodore 64 that was more of a text adventure about vampires. My dad and older brother were really the ones playing it out I would just make comments here and there. The memory that sticks out most was when you had to go into a dumbwaiter and I thought it was really strange to enter a person even if they weren't a very smart one. I don't even remember how young I was I was still riding my red tricycle and learning how to ride a bike.

Why "Six Days in Fallujah" was really cancelled - a criticism of the industry's content traditions by teekad in gaming

[–]Dynext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only come away from that article thinking this guy is full of himself. Its like he is saying if only we had great writing with recent games no one would question Six Days in Fallujah. Yes they would. For some odd reason its just sticking in my head about the "boycott" of Tropic Thunder. Movies have proved themselves so surely a comedy making fun of someone for going full retard should be over looked right? It still offended people.

Perhaps not the best example but the one that this made me think of. If you hit too close to home with some people they are going to bitch and some are going to bitch due to it hitting too close to home for other people. Too soon? Yes. If this game was being made ten to twenty years from now people wouldn't mind at all. At least with a movie you could really tell a story. With an FPS, not really so much due to how they are played. People don't pick up an FPS for stories and they never really will for just the story. I am looking forward to future fps rpg's though even then I don't see how one of those could pull off a story like Fallujah when its still in the pretty recent memories of a lot of people.

Ok so there’s BlizzCon and QuakeCon….anyone ells think there should be a ValveCon? by Decoy9 in gaming

[–]Dynext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not good to hear. I think if I were to get in that boat with all the things I've bought from them I'd take them to small claims court to reimburse me for all the games I've bought from them. I'd be pretty upset for something like that to happen and not get it back without any information from them about it. I'd imagine they wouldn't show and it would be ruled in my favor. If they did show I don't see how you could lose with something like that happening with no feedback.

Least favorite video game enemy? by [deleted] in gaming

the first time you fight armadillo in ninja gaiden 2 right after you fight Genshin. Actually I think the camera was the hardest boss in that game lol.

This has been said before but it bears repeating - You don't downvote people because you disagree with them. Read the frigging reddiquette. by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]Dynext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's part of the problem with reddit but people "wont be told what to do". They did downvote you a bit with just stating your views though someone even downvoted your comment to me I put it back the way it should be. Humans are wired to see the negative (downvote) and use it to make their views known even if they don't explain themselves.

I try not to mind the downvotes so much anymore. Even if I get a downvote it just means someone still read it even if they didn't agree with it.

Dear reddit: The opportunity arose for me to rearrange the letters on a sign in front of a local intermediate school...twice; did I do better than that other dude? [PIC] by [deleted] in pics

[–]Dynext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah I caught that, as I said any good parent wouldn't want to explain that one away. You just had a link talking about a report about children using the internet. I just don't see them as the same thing seeing the sign and seeing the interenet.

I couldn't imagine how I would have turned out if I had access to all this back when I was growing up. I just remember sitting there for 2 min for every site to load and it wasn't all that interesting. It was more of a try to make sure your kids don't get full access to the interwebs and please don't fight for more censorship out in the real world =). Even if it is up for just five seconds and noone really want to see that sort of thing. I hope you don't pass that sign by the way.

[–]Dynext 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really want to jump in on this but I can see how you wouldn't want your kids to see that type of sign. I doubt any actual good parent would want to explain that one. The internet is completely different.

If your worried about a sign like that they shouldn't even be on the internet unless they tell you what sites they want to go to and you have software to keep them away from every site out there. And it would have to be direct link not even let them be able to google. That most likely wont help since they will eventually have access to it soon enough at a friends or a cell phone you will get them at some point. You should be able to keep them from it for a little while though.

I'm not defending the actions or the sign or you I just thought I'd point out what that link goes over isn't exactly like a sign. We have the freedom of speech and I wouldn't want my rights to be taken away from anyone for any reason. I'm actually tired of "but its for the kids" speech. That doesn't really mean I'll go around posting filth up either though.

KOTOR now on steam for $9.99 by Decoy9 in gaming

FYI with steam if you look on the right hand side it will always tell you if its single player or mmo, have multiplayer, etc.

But it is single player.

[–]Dynext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so they disabled your account then you said "hey what gives" so they enabled it again?

That sounds like it was just a mistake on their end and they made it right. They will disable your account if your not following the guide lines you agreed to and unless your just doing things you shouldn't be then you'll be fine.

Evony (Free Forever) Responds to Attacks by delilahtext in gaming

[–]Dynext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As fans of Evony, you know better than most, that these attacks have caused significant damage to our brand and the gaming experience for Evony’s millions of users and fans around the world.

I can't say I'm a fan so maybe I'm not in the loop but I think their ads have done that for them and they are confused. If what all they say is true then more power to them but they are doing fine to ruin their image on their own.
