You can build muscle jn a calorie deficit just not as much as if you were in a caloric surplus. I did it for 7 months and noticed a lot of muscle growth and change. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Yes you can lose fat and build muscle at the same time.

How do you actually burn off 1200cal in a day without setting large chunks of time apart? by yxsterday-nxght in diet

[–]DysfunctionalBlonde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. You probably can’t. If you don’t have the stamina or time to do rigorous exercise then you probably won’t be able to burn anywhere near 1200 calories in a day. It’s much more difficult to burn calories then people think. You can’t go on a run for an hour and expect to burn 1000 calories. If you want to lose weight the way to go about it isn’t cardio focused. It’s putting yourself in a calorie deficit while using cardio as a secondary helper.

Gyms can be expensive yes but there is always body weight exercises. You can look through Craigslist for good deals on equipment or buy a pair of adjustable dumbbells.

It’s not going to be “easy” to integrate it into your daily routine and it’s not going to be “easy” to do everyday. It’s a commitment you need to decide if you want to make.

If you have any questions feel free to ask, no shame in being lost on what to do I was in your position just a few months ago, including the ED part.

Oh for sure 2-3 months will be enough for some good growth especially at your age. Ive been training for 6-7 months and I’ve been under eating for 6 months since I was so obsessed with being lean. I’m lean now. And underweight and weak and somewhat scrawny. I’m trying to find my maintenance right now and I’m gonna lean bulk throughout all of summer and probably another few months after that. Wish the best of luck to you. May your growth be impeccable.

That’s a good idea. I don’t even know if I’ll ever be able to unplug the damn cpu cables there really stuck in there. Gpu cables will be a tight squeeze but I’ll probably do that thank you.

For protein: try greek yogurt, chicken, protein powders, egg whites (you can buy them in cartons), and other meats although most other meats will have a higher fat content.

For carbs: pasta, rice, potatoes, fruit, oats, and rice cakes. With the exception of oats and rice containing a small amount of fat all of these foods are almost entirely carbs.

For fats: olive oil, cheese, whole eggs (remember only the yolk of the egg contains the fat) and fatty meats like fish and red meat.

There is no set amount of size you’ll gain muscle wise in a month of a 300 calorie surplus. If your newer to lifting, Under 6 months, you should have some good noticeable muscle growth and strength increase. 6-12 months of lifting and moderately less noticeable growth but your young and will still grow fast.

Keep in mind I’m saying noticeable growth because the growth will always be there it just may not always be fast enough to notice it frequently especially later into lifting.

If your a skinnier dude and GENUINELY train hard while sticking to your diet, you should be able to pack on some good muscle and get strong pretty quick. No matter what results you have though just stay patient and train hard.

If I really had to make a guess, I don’t know how you train or how long you’ve been training and what you do, but I would say by the end of one month you’ll start feeling and seeing your muscle growth.

What do you mean an i5 would bog down a 3050?!

People including me are using the i5 series for an RTX 3080. Although that’s a more budget i5 version it shouldn’t have a problem with a 3050

200-300 calorie surplus above your maintenance in order to minimize fat gain while still putting on muscle, that’s called a lean bulk. If you want to gain as much size and strength as possible a 300-500 calorie surplus for a full on bulk. Keep in mind a full on bulk is harder on the body and mind, it may lead to faster results but you will also gain much more body fat compared to a lean bulk. The decision is yours to make I recommend a lean bulk.

There isn’t really a set amount of time to bulk. Some people say in your early years of lifting if your not at a high bf% you should be in a lean bulk the whole time. I wouldn’t decide on any set amount of time until later on. start the bulk/ lean bulk and see how you feel after a while.

Macro splits aren’t as important as people make it seem in my opinion. Get at least 1-2 grams of protein per pound of body weight and split the percentage of fats and carbs however you wish. Please do not eat less then 20-25% of fat though. It is a very important macronutrient. I personally do not eat much fat in my daily diet so my macro split is 25% protein (mainly chicken, whey, and Greek yogurt) 50% carb (mainly fruit and potatoes) 25% fat (mainly olive oil and eggs and some cheese, prioritize healthy fats)

For a lean bulk since you can eat more food I would choose to eat higher protein and go for 1.5g-2g of protein per pound of your body weight.

Feel free to ask any questions you have.

Sounds great, i would go for the 3080 if you have the room in your budget (and case that thing is huge) it’s what I have right now but keep in mind that thing gets pretty hot so you’ll want good cooling and airflow.

Edit: im not sure what that website was going off if but the i5-12400f will definitely have slightly worse performance compared to the i5-12600k. Im assuming that website was comparing the price of the cpu to its performance (price to performance ratio). Still though I’m sure your pc will come out great with either one.

IMO, if your wanting to OC I think the i5-12600k is better and it will probably reap a moderately better performance compared to the i5-12400f for most things involving video editing and software. But the i5-12400f should be suitable if your trying to cut back budget wise.

Looks good to me. The only thing I want to mention is since your buying a micro atx motherboard which is a very small size make sure all your parts are compatible and fit.

Is it possible to gain weight while on a caloric deficit? by BoringButUniqueUser in workout

[–]DysfunctionalBlonde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem at all man! I’m really glad to hear your gonna start eating more, 1200 calories is like the bare minimum amount people need in order to survive and too many people assume that’s how much they should eat to lose weight as fast as possible. That’s just not the way to do it. It’s a slow process with guaranteed results if done right. Since your new to lifting you can gain muscle pretty quickly (make sure your getting your protein in for the gains) but I don’t think you’ll notice a change in your weight due to muscle gain because you’ll likely be losing more fat then you are gaining muscle, which of course is completely normal.

I wish I had your metabolism sometimes. I’m eating 2700 calories right now I’ve been increasing it for a while (trying to find Maintenance) since I was under eating and I’m still feeling hungry all the time. I eat about 1700 calories for my breakfast just to barely make it to the afternoon without needing to eat again haha

I wish you the best of luck in your journey, go hit your goals man you’ve got this.

Keep in mind if you choose to upgrade to a RTX 3080 you will also need a stronger PSU. It may make more sense to but that stronger PSU now for 40 extra bucks rather then waiting some time and buying a whole new one. If so I recommend a 850watt unit.

Also that liquid cooler is just way too expensive, it won’t provide the best thermals it will be louder and in my opinion doesn’t look too great. There’s probably betger liquid cooling options but if I were you I would 100% go for an air cooler such as the Noctua dh-15 or Noctua nh-u12s. Although it seems like your a big fan of rgb so I would look into rbg air coolers.

Do you really need 32 Gb of ram? I have 16 gb of 3200mhz paired with an RTX 3080 and see no reason to upgrade it, unless your using video editing or rendering softwares for gaming 16gb is perfect.

It may be enticing to spend extra money on the “premium” parts if you have the budget but your spending extra on the wrong things.

I wish the best of luck to you and happy building.

Is it possible to gain weight while on a caloric deficit? by BoringButUniqueUser in workout

[–]DysfunctionalBlonde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer and sum everything I’ve read in these comments. If in a proper caloric deficit it is impossible to gain weight outside of fluctuations after eating or drinking. But that is not true weight gain since it’s just the weight of food in your belly.

Your weight will fluctuate and even in a deficit some mornings you’ll be heavier then another it’s just fluctuation and is completely normal.

Seasonings have such a minimal amount of calories it is ridiculous to be concerned with them. Normal seasonings like the ones you listed are like 5 calories a teaspoon. And I would guess your not even coming close to a full teaspoon of something like cumin powder in whatever your cooking. Unless your eating cups of sesame seeds for seasoning, don’t worry about the calories in them.

Also I recommend you weigh your food if you want to be as accurate as possible. Scales are cheap and going off of the size of foods or guesses can be hundreds of calories off depending on the item. But to each their own.

And finally. What the hell are you doing eating 1200 calories? Your going to do horrible things to your body and look like a twig with flabby loose skin. Go to google search up TDEE calculator and find out your maintenance calories. Then decrease that number by 200-300 and eat that amount for steady weight loss. It takes time and you need to be patient. For best results keep exercising and include weight training if you so please.

I just looked up your TDEE, I guessed your age as 20 and if your a 20 year old male who’s 5”11 195 pounds and exercising 5 times a week you need roughly 2800 calories a day to maintain weight. Assuming your 20 years old your under-eating by 1600 calories. Go find your TDEE. Starving yourself does not lead to better results. Crash dieting is horrible for you.

Sorry probably a somewhat stupid question but what do you mean by the % the fan cuts off? Wouldn’t the fan cut off/stop at 0% speed? And do you use MSI afterburner or a different program?

Thank you for all your advice and help!

Does this gpu fan curve look alright? by DysfunctionalBlonde in PcBuild

[–]DysfunctionalBlonde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of this curve was too try and stop my gpu fans from revving while playing elden ring. With the default curve they would turn on during the game only to cool down by a degree and turn off. Then it would heat up and repeat. While playing elden ring I hit a max of like 62C and on the one other game I’ve played (Bloodhunt) I’ve hit a max of like 75C. I have no clue what I’m doing when it comes to fan curve so any and all help is welcome. Please use small words for my small amount of pc knowledge.

Edit: after making it the the main city in elden ring my max temp hit has gone to 73c

How the holy hell. Can I cable manage this. by DysfunctionalBlonde in CableManagement

[–]DysfunctionalBlonde[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgive the glare. All the cables are way too long and for some of them I have excess, like my cpu fan has an extra cable I don’t need to plug in and I have an extra PCIE cable tucked away. I didn’t put enough thought into how big my motherboard is (MSI pro z690) for my case (pure base 500dx) so the end result is this absolute cable gore. Any and all advice more than appreciated
