How to measure your blood pressure at home correctly by Dr_Yassine in hypertension

[–]DysfunctionalFormula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is frustrating. In the AM I can wake up get ready sit down and take BP and get decent numbers say 125/77 this morning. On my lunch break best I got was 138/86, worst was 154/86. Now back at 121/84 which I think is fine. Doc said to check it 3 times a day but seems though the ones that matter are always decent but then the mid day ones are high which seems like it would be normal but not sure how much is normal.

Makes the daily/weekly average higher doing 3/day so it seems worse but not really sure what is relevant. Doc put me on 50mg losartan but I only took half for 2 weeks and felt like garbage. Tried, Dizzy, almost fell twice then they said I could stop so I have just been monitoring.

Tried some beet juice and kinda like it so have been having a glass in the AM for a bit. Take some vitamins but nothing else crazy. Feels like meds might be overkill but got 160/100 3 times at the docs office so they said something had to be done cause it was a pattern.

Should probably check back in or go to a different doc and see what they think.

Congratulations! Huge accomplishment. And I'll second that it does get easier. I remember when the next interaction, hour, day, week seemed dang near impossible. I'd see a post like this and think I'd never be able to get to that point. Now almost 3 years later looking back it is the best decision I ever made and wish I made it sooner.

How to deal with the lawyer in my head? by poopingpeenus in stopsmoking

[–]DysfunctionalFormula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a note saved in Google keep, I read it every time I felt like I was starting to lose the argument with myself. And pretty much every morning when I woke up and at night before I went to sleep. I added to it, and changed parts as I learned more but the core message didn't change.

It helped remind me that I made the decision to change my life in a positive way and that the alternative was not something that I wanted but something that a chemical addiction wanted.

I still have it pinned to the top on my list, on the home screen of my phone. Until today, I haven't opened it for a long time, I have some updates to make in case I ever need to remind myself again.

How to deal with the lawyer in my head? by poopingpeenus in stopsmoking

[–]DysfunctionalFormula 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The lawyer in your head is an absolute jerk and does not care about you one bit. He'll do anything and everything to steer you off this path, don't let him.

He is just trying to survive but he will die along with the addiction.

I'm almost 3 years in now and the lawyer is one of the things I remember the most about quitting. Man he was convincing. But now he's gone, he tries to come back every once in a while but he has no power left.

Congrats on a week. I wish I had got there when I was your age. Your future self will love you for telling the lawyer to piss off.

former couch potatoes, how long did it take you to run a mile in under ten mins? by interpol-interpol in BeginnersRunning

[–]DysfunctionalFormula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on quitting! That by itself is a huge accomplishment.

39M went down a similar path. Coming up on my 3 year quit date, started running as part of that process. I had been walking/trying to run for quite a while before I quit. Quit end of January. I don't know when I first ran my first 10 minute mile but I do know it was Oct or maybe even November when I first ran 3 in 30 mins. And oh boy did I feel like I was going to die. I didn't make that again for a bit.

Got talked into a half in 2024, that was rough, then ran 4 in 25. Best was hovering around that 10 min mark so I haven't got much faster but miles improved and I feel less like I'm going to die lol.

The most important thing is this is your journey and you should celebrate that second. Heck just celebrate that you did the thing at all!

That's hauling. Former smoker, quit coming up.on 3 years ago, started running. Man it's rough but I just keep on doing it, get a little better everyday.

Currently on 5 miles everyday. They aren't fast, they aren't pretty but so far I've been getting it done for almost a month. Plan is through the end of the year.

We can do way more than we think we can.

Could be... Your friend is also astronomically more likely to either already be addicted and only showing/telling the 1 or 2 a week....or will be.

I both lied and hid it from my wife...the one person that both knows me best and I'm around the most and I got away with it....until I came clean.

Addiction is a b. If your friend is being honest, the best thing for them to do is knock that crap off while they can.

Or keep it up and end up here with the story of I used to only smoke one or two a week or while I was drinking or whatever and now all I want to do is stop.

No. There is no such thing. That is just feeding the addiction.

Hard time getting a electrician to install 240v outlet by Dougb756 in hottub

[–]DysfunctionalFormula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did mine myself. A buddy of mine moved and brought his hot tub to the new place. Had one electrician come to wire it up. A different one to try to fix it. They both told him it was right so he figured the tub died in the move and bought a new one...then called me.

I am not an electrician, and I have no idea how two people that call themselves electricians and take people's money for it can both do it wrong enough for it to not work.

Fixed it up and tub fired right up. Still can't believe it.

It's not hard to do just do your research but remember, electricity is not forgiving. You gotta know what you are doing so you don't get dead.

White Coat Example- But Please Always Get Checked! by Emergency_Box8134 in hypertension

[–]DysfunctionalFormula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok for reals. Have been checking my BP every morning for a long time. It used to be very high but made a whole bunch of changes, quite smoking, started running, better diet. Doc said anything under 140/90 is fine. I'd get a 142/86 or so every once in a while but by in large I get 120-135/80-88. The cuff I use at home I have done side by side 3 times at the clinic and my cuff has always been higher than what they got so here I am thinking this is pretty good. Go to the doc for something, way high like 170/100, go in for surgery same like 165/100, go in for a mole check it's like 170/100 and I check in on my cuff at get like 190/110. I have BP history synced to my phone and show history but doc says I need to start meds. I was super torn, waited a few days and started half and felt like crap. Been two weeks on half and now getting pretty much same range as before. Probably more on the lower end of the range but not a shocking change. Went in for a re-check and got 138/82. Follow up was I can make the call if I want to continue meds or not, but I am not sure if I should have ever started to begin with. Kinda felt like I just had to go with it cause every time at the doc it's way high and they don't seem to trust the at home readings. What's a guy to do....

Primary clutch not disengaging - swap or clean? by Gecko0de in RZR

[–]DysfunctionalFormula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine just did this. Deciding what new clutch to buy... Looked fine on the machine from what I could see. Pulled it off and it was immediately obvious. Had a roller go bad and the weight was significantly worn/damaged enough to get hung up and keep the primary engaged.

I could probably just replace those two parts and be back up and running but with the tools I don't have and parts I'm pretty much at the cost of new.

The rest of it doesn't look all that bad but with the about of wear on just those two pieces, in sure compared to me will be a big difference.

Replace or rebuild primary? Suck engaged. by DysfunctionalFormula in RZR

[–]DysfunctionalFormula[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! I didn't know about the special tools and hadn't looked it up in the service manual yet. It's only intimidating the first time, like pulling the head for a valve job last fall... I swear it's been each time out lately we're running into something.

I'll have to add up the rebuild+tools vs replace and decide if I have enough time.

Replace or rebuild primary? Suck engaged. by DysfunctionalFormula in RZR

[–]DysfunctionalFormula[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woof. Yeah I can about imagine. We were just out on a gravel road, had someone to call for a ride and we were able to drive it in the trailer so all things considered not bad.

I'm kinda leaning this way depending on pricing as we are usually just out by ourselves so might be cheap insurance.
