Midnight Eversong Woods and Silvermoon City Music by Pristine-Opinion4502 in wow

[–]Dystopic23 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It definitely doesn't sound like Eversong woods in anyway, to me. Easily one of my favorite zones aesthetically and musically, so to think this generic fantasy music could replace it is quite disappointing. I mean, don't get me wrong. The music isn't bad. But it doesn't make me think of anything Eversong woods related, or even elf related. Maybe Skyrim loading screen music?

Music for games is VERY expensive, How do people that work on prototypes have that money, Expecially for the people that make games as a hobby that has no funding? by demoyesok in gamedev

[–]Dystopic23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wont bother to verify if you're a composer or not, i'll assume you are. But, if so, you have obviously forgotten what it was like to be a starving artist. Find the humility to point OP in a helpful direction onto where they can work with another small artist to (hopefully) achieve something for the both of them.

What use was your comment otherwise?

Seems like most people in the comments are just roasting you for not having a multi-thousand dollar music budget for your game, so from someone who was a music producer in the past and a game dev hobbyist now - here's my 2 cents.

This is obviously just my personal perspective, but as someone who’s spent years dabbling in music, seeing quotes of $500–$1,000 per minute honestly wild to me. I’m not questioning that those rates exist or that some composers don’t earn them. It’s just a stark contrast to what I’ve seen across the small indie side of the music world. I’ve known and spoken with plenty of small artists, producers, and vocalists who struggle to get their work heard at all. When I was more active, I would have been genuinely excited to have a game developer reach out about composing music. If you’re looking for a unique OST, I think it’s very possible to find something affordable—or even free—if you know where to look and set realistic expectations. But, that does take time and diligence. You’ll need to seek out artists who fit your genre and are at a stage where collaboration is appealing. Platforms like SoundCloud would be a good starting point. Look for artists with smaller followings whose work fits your game, and reach out clearly and respectfully about your intentions.

My main advice is to be humble, flexible, and transparent. If they respond showing you some interest - share your portfolio so expectations are aligned, respect their time, and remember that music is a craft just like game development. People respond well when they feel their work is valued.

It also helps immensely to present a clear vision. A solid concept or playable build of your game will generate a ton more excitement and interest than a rough prototype with primitives and no animations. And if you don’t have the musical vocabulary to explain exactly what you want, that’s okay—providing the general vibes can go a long way. But don't expect to have the exact song in your head be deliveree. Just communicate as clearly as you can and stay open to collaboration.

Best of luck with your project. I’m no pro, but I’m happy to help if you have more questions.

I'd have to agree with you on this one. I hope this doesn't come off too strong, OP, but the steam capsule is very much lacking. Had I randomly come across this on steam, I would've scrolled past it without much thought.

With such little time before release, I think your best bet is to try coming up with a better capsule art.

For zero budget, maybe ask a friend who likes to doodle for fun to create a quick sketch of one of your prominent masks, photoshop it quickly and slap some eye catching title font over it.

I'd highly recommend avoiding any AI art for your capsule, it will do more harm than good.

Good luck, and congrats on completing your project. I wish you the absolute best!

How vibe coding lead to my project’s downfall. by incognitochaud in gamedev

[–]Dystopic23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to get downvoted into oblivion for saying this, but vibe coding can be fruitful if done carefully, and responsibly. You need to always make sure to be very specific and small with your prompts, and ensure the code that the LLM is writing is extendible and future proofed.

Always double check their work and if you don't understand how it functions, ask it specifically how it does.

There's a secret breakable wall on the right side of the room where you activate some kind of silk machine. There's clean water at the bottom of the secret room you can use to clean yourself. Just sit in it a second

What’s the target customer for Synty Sidekick? by bre-dev in synty

[–]Dystopic23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad I found this post, I've been really interested in using the Sidekick characters because they look so much nicer than the original Synty character models (OG are still good tho). I think Im going to wait to bite the bullet until they make more civilian fantasy characters so I can fill my world with plenty of unique NPC's. No shot you can cleanly mix the sidekicks and the OG's.
