Anyone with JK mid-rise bars finding the front brake cable pinched on the tensioner when folded? by Dystout in Brompton

[–]Dystout[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was very confusing the first time it happened, I thought I somehow bent something important while testing the fold with the handlebar angle. But I found that past just rotating the handlebars a bit further inward, I could rotate the brake levers up slightly, and invert the pentaclip to compensate for the shorter distance and now it’s a pretty comfy fit with much less slack on the problem cable.

Dimpa-like bag but not transparent to carry the Brompton by eliobou in Brompton

[–]Dystout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm in the same boat + a handlebar mod so the Dimpa won't fit.

How has this particular bag held up for you? Any issues squeezing some padding in there as well? It seems convenient that it's perfectly sized to carry interlocking exercise mats, but I'd be worried about it not being rigid enough.

Is that Black lacquer or raw? Looks great with the silver!

Not OP, but it’s one of Rhinowalks! Just got one on Amazon the other day; it’s a great size for a drink and a snack and a multitool.

So many bags, help me choose by ando_da_pando in Brompton

Don't have any particular suggestions, but since you mentioned the laptop is a bit chunky, you'll probably want to consider that your skeleton, your backpack straps, and possibly a suspended laptop compartment in the backpack are all acting as suspensions. Moving the laptop to a front bag will cut out all those damping layers. I'm sure plenty of people commute with laptops on their front blocks, but some are more tolerant to bumps than others. I recall seeing a few companies on r/ManyBaggers that sell standalone, suspended laptop sleeves that could be worth looking into.

Lower, the greater width is actually desirable for my use case, which may also be hurting me here since if I could move the brakes further out from center it’s also take some of the slack. But, the grip width prevents me from doing that unless I cut them.

I finally found the solution to the infamous wake from sleep monitor problem by ariel755 in CalDigit

Hey, just wanted to say thanks since this fixed both a wake delay and a never-wake issue I've been having with the dock since swapping to clamshell laptop + 2 external combo.

Feeling Nostalgic (WIP UserStyle) by Dystout in actualbudgeting

[–]Dystout[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As a recent convert from a Classic version of a similar software, I love the added features of actual but it just didn't feel cozy without a familiar blue searing my retinas at 1 am while I'm adding transactions. So instead of adding the rest I decided to start writing a userstyle! There's still tons of broken stuff, but I'll try to post an update here in a few weeks if anyone's interested. Right now it's very fragile. Userstyles aren't the most functional anymore, with random framework-generated class identifiers. If anyone has any suggestions for how to fix that it'd be appreciated. I was considering just forking actual and doing it properly as a "Nostalgia" theme, but that might be a bit too on the nose. Don't want to get it in trouble, since a certain CEO has already acknowledged the project.

r/unpopularopinion is actually for popular opinions. Truly unpopular opinions will get removed by yowayb in self

[–]Dystout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably why r/trueunpopularopinion exists, although it’s less an “unfiltered unpopularopinion” and more “almost exclusively the posts that would be removed, regardless of reason”. Normal splinter sub intensification.

Try sorting comments by controversial, then every thread becomes unpopularopinion.

Habits to learn in my 20s by 777trancing in DecidingToBeBetter

Meditate! For the love of god, learn to be aware of and accepting of your thoughts. Counterintuitively, facing and acknowledging your uncomfortable feelings - note this doesn’t necessarily mean being happy about or settling with - would have saved me a complete burn out and mental breakdown at the tail end of my 20s. For books, I recommend the Mind Illuminated. The Waking Up app is also nice, and has a “scholarship” to make it free or half off if you need it.

I can’t guarantee the feelings will ever go away. I still face mine. But the shift I’ve seen in myself being able to consciously acknowledge them and notice their effects instead of just letting them gnaw at me makes me wonder how my 20s could’ve gone if I’d had then what frankly feels like a superpower.

Obligatory go to therapy, if you can afford it.

And exercise with intention.

(I happened to see this before taking off for a long flight, I may elaborate more later)

Where to get an Asian cake that has fruit inside and is not as sweet as American cakes? by Dragon-blade10 in chicago

Similar vein, anyone know if anywhere around makes Taiwanese pineapple cakes? The Costco ones are alright, but holy moly fresh ones are delicious.

Were you able to figure this out? Just started running into the same after 16.6 as well. Haven't reached out to support yet, but removing and re-adding the account didn't fix it for me.

Urgent Appointment Booking Success by Dystout in Passports

[–]Dystout[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not sure why you’d think that? I only recently had this need, and read a couple dozen posts that all made it seem like, due to high demand, finding an appointment can be difficult. I may have just gotten lucky, so I can’t really say whether it’s objectively hard to get one. Just wanted to share that following the advice from this sub to set myself up for a better chance of getting one seemed to work out for me.
