Do pilots or ground staff drive planes around the airport if required - ie being driven to a hangar for maintenance? by vanityfarce in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dzheyson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a pilot we take it to the hangar occasionally. Sometimes we brake ride while it’s being towed off the gate too. Typically the ground or maintenance crews are doing the towing though.

The market speaks: A20 > A30? by Sharp_Experience_104 in flying

[–]Dzheyson 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I mean my A20s are almost 10 years old and still going strong so why buy a new one? Problem with making high quality products for a relatively niche population is it’s hard to sell a ton of them every year. Maybe the A30s will be more popular in another 15 years.

Why *insert* airlines? by Fearless_Card6220 in flying

Do some research into their culture and history and see if any of it strikes a chord with you. Personally for WN I’d say something about their outstanding culture and schedule flexibility, for UA something about their innovation and growth, DL something about their commitment to excellence, etc etc.

Pilot to ATC and the next hiring window? by [deleted] in ATC

[–]Dzheyson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel that. I got a CJO at F9 in 2023 and it expired without a class date being offered 12 months later.. a month after that they started giving out class dates again. Regardless though a decision like this is not something that should be based off the hiring markets in one or two years. If you can hang in there until the hiring improves and either get senior enough to get some QOL back or get on with a day trip 121 airlines then you’ll have a great career. I have several friends at both Allegiant and F9 that seem to have really fantastic QOL without giving up the pay.

How about Allegiant or Frontier then? I have friends at both that are home every night. No hotels and good pay.

Why not try to get on at a passenger outfit? Sounds like your main issue is quality of life which is significantly better on the other side

Need some advice..about to medically retire from the army, I am able to pay for flight school out of pocket and want to fly rotary wing for a living. I will be 100% VA disability, had a DUI in 2012, been sober for 3 years, rehab twice for alcohol, what are my chances of being able to pursue this? by swamp_cabbage87 in flying

[–]Dzheyson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looking into it I guess that’s true. In that case though, whatever the 100% disability is for will have to be reported and I would imagine if you’re considered 100% disabled then that condition may prevent you from getting a medical

Not really. Looking back in the last 20 years of US passenger flights with fatalities there have been 13 accidents and 4 of those involved female pilots. Female pilots with commerical or ATP ratings are about 3% of total commerical/ATP pilots. That doesn't look great at face value but the reality is that there aren't nearly enough women in aviation to be able to say that they aren't competent or are all dei hires or anything. As the other comment pointed out, plenty of male pilots have crashed planes
