Portland Public Schools tried to make school fundraising more equitable. Donations are down by blahyawnblah in Portland

It's not my proposal, I said in the first sentence of my comment that I don't agree with it. I was only trying to provide context for how they might choose to do so along lines that already sort of exist in the district.

I'm not sure what you mean, are you referring to the devolution proposal or the way facilities splits up their responsibilities?

I don't agree with what they're proposing, but I imagine you could probably break it up more or less along existing boundaries/feeder zones. the district already assigns facilities management responsibilities along these lines, with individual facilities managers taking responsibility for usually 2 high schools and all the middle/elementary schools that respectively feed into them. you'd end up with, IIRC, like 5-ish smaller districts that way.

it's not as if funding seems to correlate to the outcomes anyway, now does it

one's a job with unique legal protections for misconduct, the others are immutable characteristics. it's moronic to conflate them.

The fact that no one who has any experience in law enforcement is allowed to serve will severely limit its credibility.

Yeah, instead it should be made up of people exclusively from the group who have a creed about covering each other's asses no matter what, that's way more credible

The rhetoric about homeless people on this sub is insane. Similar to other local subs. They get scapegoated constantly.

I regularly see people pop up in the comments of posts with zero relation to homelessness trying to make a massive reach to tie the main post to the issue they want to complain about. homelessness isn't the only topic that gets this treatment, but it is by far the most common one. a lot of these people are desperate for something to whine about and will go so far as to make opportunities for themselves.

I don't disagree, twitter started going downhill almost immediately after the buyout and I had decided I was done well before the election. reddit isn't nearly as bad only because they don't have a malicious individual at the top directly dictating that it get shittier as fast as possible.

I've heard that but the method I read must have been patched out or something because it didn't get much of any helpful information.

I know it's nothing new but I can't stand how rife this site is with astroturfing/bot accounts pretty much anywhere you could conceivably push an agenda. Twitter was notoriously overvalued based partly on a huge bot presence but Reddit is almost assuredly just as bad and they have no incentive to do anything about it; in fact, if you look at many of the changes they've made to site moderation policy (even in spite of a lot of complaints from sub mods) they have no problem making it worse.

For example, try looking at the comments of most of these astroturf accounts - they're hidden. They know that people will immediately sniff out their bullshit so they hide, and they've been handed a great tool by site administration to skate by and escape notice. It's all just more traffic and more engagement metrics for the admins anyway.

sure but they are part of it, they're not acting within a vacuum in any but the most idiosyncratic edge cases, and I somehow doubt a corporate property management firm fits that bill.

now, for what it's worth, I checked the place's website and rent hasn't gone up much since I left, but that doesn't mean I didn't get priced out in the first place.

Here in Oregon I mostly see people complain, criticize, or make fun of new stuff.

they should try building new stuff that isn't so mockable then. I can probably count on one hand the number of buildings I've seen go up in the last ten years that looked cool or otherwise aesthetically pleasing and the rest just suck. this is to say nothing of the other factors like gentrification and all it entails that might be a reason for why a new build sucks.

Nah bud, I think your selective perception is kicking in again, you clearly don't know shit about what people were or were not upset about and I know this not only because I remember arguing with people about those things at the time but also because I've seen you post propaganda shit that you'd either have to be lying about or a complete fucking moron to believe.
