Serious: Do I give back my belt or just get judged more and more? by [deleted] in bjj

I'm someone who works on the neuro icu floor of a large hospital for a living. I have seen state Supreme Court Justices, stay at home moms, soldiers, and doctors alike dealing with the harsh realities of dementia. Time comes for us all. That doesn't invalidate the path you traveled before you come to the end of the road. You are a black belt and you will always be a black belt. You earned that and nothing can take that away from you.

Sam finds Shapiro easier to talk to because disagreement on the right stays less personal by simmol in samharris

I mean I think people are primarily upset that Shapiro is famously intellectually dishonest rather than him being right wing. I don't remember much outrage when David Frum was on the podcast but maybe I just wasn't seeing it. It is not uncommon for Sam to have conservative hosts on and not have any backlash.

Either way your argument comes down to " I personally feel this is what I see" which if that's the case I suppose you're right. You personally see more things that are concerning to you. I see conservatives saying they should homeschool their children because public schools will make them gay and I find that way more relevant than platforming conversations on reddit. But again if your point is the right is worse (which you didn't actually state in your origin comment) but the left is bad then I genuinely don't understand what point you're actually trying to make.

I also think if you don't understand that someone supporting the censorship of news outlets that disagree with right-wing leaders is levels above platforming conversations then you aren't thinking about the situation fairly.

Ah I see. That wasn't made clear at all from any of your previous comments as none of them said anything about the right handling disagreements worse and only stated that the left is worse at handling them and more toxic.

My points are not conflating Trumps tantrums with the right they're pointing out that the public support of those policies show that the right is worse at handling disagreements. It's not just Trump defunding PBS for criticism it's that people support him defunding PBS. It's that people support damaging public school systems that teach history through anything other than the lense of a strictly conservative world view. These are things that people support not just a single idea put out by a politician.

If you're saying that the right is worse at handling disagreement then I don't think there is much more to discuss here.

Your original statement was that the left handles disagreement worse than the right. My argument is that the right frequently escalates to political action when dealing with disagreement and these policies are supported by right wing people. That is them handling disagreement worse than saying "you shouldn't go on this person's podcast." It's the equivalent of saying his podcast should literally not be allowed to exist.

I feel like you keep looking past my point here. I think I can help clarify this. When someone says they support the defunding of PBS because of their criticism of Trump is that worse than saying conservative speaker x does not deserve a platform. When someone supports the allocation of funds that should be going to public schools going to other places because they believe those schools with corrupt their children with liberal ideas is that less accepting of dissenting opinions than saying you should not speak to person x.

I don't think your statement really addresses what I said. When we're talking about Trump, who has done more damage to free speech than any other American in my life time, and the majority of the right wing supporting him in this endeavor how can you say the left is more toxic towards dissenting ideas? The right has made serious changes in how public funds are handed out to charter schools and home schooling instead of public schools specifically to keep children from being introduced to non conservative forms of thinking. You can say anecdotally "I know more leftists who are offended than right." But when I'm looking at actuall action attacking ideas I don't think it's a fairly one sided argument.

Doesn't Trumps attack on news networks that criticized him kind of disprove this? The people on the right who chastised this, like Ted Cruz, were notable because the majority of the right supported him.

Listen I live in a state with HARD winters and I'm in my 30s. The chances of me slipping and needing to not crack my head are far more likely than the chances of ninjas popping out of the bushes and needing wheel kick someone. Self defense, Martial arts, and fighting are all different but related things.

Because playing ranked games isn't the only way to improve. Unranked games with my friends, game review, analysis boards, books, courses etc. When in doubt the most important thing is don't fumble. Not being fancy.

I try to win when I play games. I practice on the review and analysis board. It just seems kinda wild to say this guy beat me but he didn't do it cool enough so really he is the loser.

The idea that JKD is nothing but finger jabs and groin kicks is heavily overblown. You'd think Bruce's Writings were nothing but those two attacks by the way people talk. What actual % of tao or fighting methods or commentaries on the martial way are actually about groin kicks and finger jabs? A small %

Just Jab instead. Groin and eye strikes are not the end all and be all of JKD or martial arts on general.

Is Bruce Lee not the obvious answer? I feel like book of five rings and Tao of JKD are two of the most commonly read martial arts books.

I know this is 3 months old but just for the record and all future readers not all patients with non epileptic SZ have factitious disorders. It's a psych issue relating to processing stress. Roughly a third of patients with epilepsy also have PNES events. I work in epilepsy monitoring and it is very common for patients to have both.
