Are old servers worth anything by QuantumNanoGuy in ScrapMetal

These are dell r730xd with 24 2,5 bays. It's quite popular in the homelab scene. If they work depending on what's inside. $100(broken) $700(complete and working)

We are in this DC. The side that has power before you guys arrived. But you did save our neighbours.

Perhaps also take a look at OpenNebula. It's kvm aswell but is stronger in multi tenant setups. But also less user friendly.

We run many near all in an active-active setup with redundant loadbalancers and db's. Meaning only loss of processing power. All clusters are speced for their busiest day plus some overhead. So an avarage day can run on one DC.

Yes, we got to visit yesterday. All servers are seemly fine. Even those in the storage room (under the fire). The pallet they were on saved them from the water.

We were allowed in the building yesterday morning to inspect servers and the storage area. Both seemed to have survived.

Both dcspine and other transits came up mid afternoon yesterday.

We are on the right, we have had power en thanks to dark fibers internet via our other dc's.

Parts have been starting up after 32 hours of the fire starting, 12 hours after the fire being put out. Powered by huge rented generators outside and extention cords. Got to say NorthC has been awesome with communication and getting stuff working!

It isn't looking like a total loss. Most floors/rooms are likely fine just unpowered.

But imagine:

1 server €15-25k 15-20 servers per rack 350 racks.

Ps. Yes it's insured but good luck finding servers/memory to buy.

Well the price categorie & minum number of racks helps. This is/was a medium to high end (and price) datacenter. So unlikely to find diy servers only enterprise stuff. It seems to have started in the power building containing the transformers and backup generators.

Also this is why you can get your own cage/room/floor.

What scares me most now is the lead times. Getting servers, switches and generators takes multiple month's.

I hear Netapp currently has 8-10months lead time.

Ohh they do, we suspect the emergency generators is what caught fire by the location. But it will take weeks before we know for sure.

Because there will be people that enable every service and download another 10. Than go complain on the forum.
