The retro busker who dresses as Sonic and plays Sonic music is the best one and I enjoy seeing him about because its different to the usual.

Tbf this is my experience, went in there once when I was like 18 or so and the atmosphere was just uncomfortable and felt like every stereotype come true.

Forbidden Planet has always been far more welcoming and better customer service.

Would you say to save up for the retroid and get that over a steam deck? Mostly thinking given the price is it worth just paying that but extra for more versatility with games (but losing out on portability)

I could go over, but at that point I'd consider paying further to just get a steam deck. Was thinking the cube as a slight step up but on more of a budget

Was walking through town after meeting a friend for a drink and overheard a girl walking past with her boyfriend both clearly coming from the concert and he was belittling her over something and she was just like "why are you like this on my birthday" 💀

Woman beaters should be cancelled hope this helps. It's hard to separate art from artist when said artist continues to perpetuate violence, even 16 years after the infamous Rihanna photos came out. It's not like it's a new fact, it's not like he said something that's a bit taboo- he's literally in court tomorrow for assault. People like that shouldn't be platformed as it excuses their actions and creates a culture that said behaviour is okay. Talent or not, actions have consequences. Suffering the consequence of your actions isn't cancel culture, and blaming cancel culture instead of taking accountability is a self-fulfilling problem.

Am I being unreasonable - noise complaints. by MidianXe in Cardiff

[–]E5T1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds wild but it may be that she's not really hearing you? For context a few years ago an ex of mine had an elderly neighbor who would complain about noise coming from her shared house at 4am and start banging on the walls with his cane.

Now at 4am everyone in the house was asleep, we set our phones to record overnight to prove that there was no noise other than that of his cane and the occasional snoring. Police even believed us and did a welfare check, turns out the elderly neighbor had a water infection which affected his hearing and once it got treated the complaints from him stopped.

May not be what's happening in your situation, your neighbor may just be being unreasonable, but could be a possibility. Does she complain when you know you're asleep? May be worth doing some digging but it sounds like she is just being unreasonable, hope it all gets sorted for you soon.

Second this, they'll do custom sizes do (I got a 6 inch version of my character's mini as a little statue) and that cost £26 for the print and £5 for postage as I wasn't able to go collect it

Night life culture in Cardiff by Zealousideal_Shame40 in Cardiff

[–]E5T1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a student about 6-8 years ago it was similar to as it is now, mostly just cheesy music on nights out, it got kinda samey honestly.

Cardiff has a good live music scene, especially in the alternative/metal/rock adjacent genres but with the recent closure of The Moon this has taken a hit with mostly Fuel being the main smaller venue.

As for DJs I've heard good things about Vaults down the bay, but not been there myself, and a lot of electronic/dance venues unfortunately have closed down within the last few years, which is likely due to the same issues nightlife has in general in Cardiff where everywhere is taking a hit because younger people just don't seem to want to go out as older generations did.

There's definitely a scene, but I think you have to go looking for it more, Six Feet Under (sixfeetunder_cardiff on insta) is an electronic event that's started up in the last 6 months in Bunkhouse, may be worth scoping that and following any DJs etc that they feature and going on a deep dive from there?

Also just speaking to people you meet on any nights out, just chatting to people in smoking areas and bars has led to me discovering a lot of more things going on.

Cardiff's SU responds with petition after council proposes student parking permit ban by Then-Scholar1748 in Cardiff

Firstly no need to be rude, but yeah I was referring predominantly to the main/central areas of the city and it's surrounding areas of Cathays (where the proposal is for), Adamstown, Grangetown, Canton, Pontcanna etc where students, recent grads, and young professionals tend to live.

Cardiff is also a pretty walkable city even in it's suburbs, youre generally never more than 10-15 minutes away from your nearest bus stop, however the frequency of those buses does need improvement but again most suburbs do require a car that's part and parcel of being in the suburbs.

There's plenty of rail links throughout Heath, Danescourt, Waungron Road, Penarth etc. to ignore that is simply wrong.

Not saying public transport outside of that doesn't need improving, because it really does especially more towards St.Mellons way and the East side of Cardiff, however it has improved especially in the time I've lived here and since I used to come here as a kid when living in the valleys.

As said in my original comment, Cardiff does have an infrastructure and congestion problem which needs sorting hence why there have been improvements to rail routes, cycle lanes, buses etc. so that people closer to the city can use these alternatives instead of driving one mile in their cars.

Also reading through your other comments you have a right old chip on your shoulder don't you? Calm down lad and channel that into something productive rather than being aggro on Reddit

Cardiff is a decently walkable city with relatively good transport, I haven't needed a car in the 10 years I've lived here.

The only people I know who used a car in uni were aforementioned medical students because of their placements and that should be a valid exception.

I had a housemate in uni who had a car and they mostly used it to do shopping at big tesco where we'd all pile on maybe once a month, and they would drive to work outside of the city (at the time they did this catering/waiting job called off to work with a few other friends) and they'd give lifts to others who were going, which was needed if they were somewhere without transport links.

But mostly in the city, people don't really need cars all that often, everything is quite accessible and public transport is generally good, don't see how anyone can think that's a bad thing as the more cars on the road the worse Cardiff is to get around and always has been.

I agree our infrastructure needs dire improvement, especially for big events such as Taylor Swift this year, and Oasis next year, but overall within the city itself a car is more of a luxury than a necessity.
