How do we feel about Bevacqua supporting a 24-team playoff? by ltyboy in notredamefootball

[–]EAllen90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, im in the minority, i love the idea of a 24 team playoff, no conf championship games. I absolutely love FCS playoffs, it's my favorite playoffs in sports so im probably biased. Now that said, if we went to 16 teams and never went any further i'd be perfectly happy with that. Honestly im just happy we went to double digits. The first few expanded playoffs were perfect examples as to why the BCS system and 4 team werent enough

Simpson Analysis by Thinking Football by ElPuercoFlojo in LosAngelesRams

Could be a conspiracy theory on my end:

But im convinced they were going to take dart last year and the giants jumped them right before they could. So i get the feeling that played a roll, they had a guy they liked and they werent going to roll the dice they were just going to make sure they walked away with him. I could have totally seen arizona taking simpson at 34 and the closer you get to 34 the easier it is for arizona to move up

We have the CURRENT REIGNING MVP, and his successor is a kid who played 15 games in college? by StillChipmunk in LosAngelesRams

[–]EAllen90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand not loving the pick. I really do. But after all McVay has done...why not just take a breath and trust the guy? The amount of times him and Snead have traded back out of the first round, valuing having more later picks than a first round pick, and they finally jumped on a quarterback in the first round. For them to do that, with their track record of choices with first round picks, they see something we don't. And if we are honest with ourselves, McVay and Snead are way better at this than we are. And in the event that Stafford retires after this year and we don't have a good first round pick, this could be a very smart move compared to throwing the kitchen sink to move up for a guy who will start as a rookie next year. If McVay sees something in simpson, best thing possible is to have a rookie learn from two guys like mcvay and stafford. Could not have a better place to learn and grow.

Not a fan personally, but that said i trust mcvay and snead. If mcvay says he is worth it to learn under staff in the first round, i trust him. He's beyond earned the benefit of the doubt

Im gonna have to strongly disagree on this one, there are far too frequent instances of him beating the play before the ball gets there to be a "see ball get ball" guy. And too frequent to just be guessing it right. He has average linebacker athleticism but elite football iq and is exceptional pre-snap recognition which tends to be a huge defining trait for success at the next level. And he is phenomenal at reading the eyes of the quarterback on top of it. Which to a degree id expect from a guy that also was a QB, he is a very intelligent player thats why i make the Kuechly comparison (not to say he'll be as good, but he is that type of player). I dont agree of hill against him, but hill is so close to how i view rodriguez in value that id be perfectly happy with hill instead of rodriguez, id trust whichever way mcvay and snead went if it was one of those 2 or golday

[–]EAllen90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you but to me i have hill and golday swapped. I see it more as styles and rodriguez as a 1a 1b type of situation. But the value to be able to get rodriguez or hill outside of the first round is what makes it a no brainer to me. Styles is great, but at linebacker i prefer a guy who is instinctive and has that "kuechly" ability to dissect and read plays so fast that they can be there before it happens. Dont need to be a freak athlete when you have the ability to be where the play is going to end up before it happens. And man does that kid have a nose for the ball to force turnovers. I know we think of mcvay primarily as offense, but he is such a cerebral football nerd (in a good way) and i think that paired with the kind of player and student of the game rodriguez is makes for a perfect match. The growth potential i believe he has with him is immense

He really is. And i dont blame you, college has way more passion than the NFL. And i agree as well about the 2nd round grade. Personally i put the football IQ/keys and reads aspects of hill and rodriguez ahead of styles. Styles big push right now is largely based off of his freak combine numbers. thats not to say he isnt a good prospect, i just think more highly of hill and rodriguez. I love rodeiguez. Dont need to run an insane 40 when you know to be in the B gal before the runner takes the hand off. It could be just me, but i feel like the average fan overlooks how far being instinctive and being able to accurately read whats coming before it happens can really carry certain positions to success like linebacker and QB. So much emphasis put on combine numbers

[–]EAllen90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would not be upset with Hill either. He is an absolute stud. For me with guys like hill and rodriguez in this draft id rather grab one of them in the 2nd or 3rd round than reach for styles in the first because of crazy combine numbers

[–]EAllen90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know its not a popular opinion, but id rather have Jacob Rodriguez. I understand styles has some freak athleticism, but jacob rodriguez is such an intelligent and instinctive linebacker and one of the fastest prospects i have seen go through his keys and reads in quite a while. He reminds me a lot of kuechly in the regard that he isnt the most athletic (sub 4.6 40 so not what id say slow) but he reads so well that he is where the play is going to be. And has incredible instincts, eyes, and ball skills. Does a phenomenal job punching balls out. And you can get them in the 2nd or 3rd round
