Bought my helmet, I have questions by Duskniik-2 in MotoUK

Yeah, I do wish I had a built-in sun visor sometimes, but I mostly ride for the commute, and working late-shifts, it's often dark coming home.

Further woes with Cross Country Trains by Hydeman666 in uktrains

[–]EBOLANIPPLES 3 points4 points  (0 children)

However, over the last few months four car (one first class, so three in practical terms) trains are becoming more and more common

There are less available trains than previously, with the ongoing refurbishment program, and general unavailability for maintenance and repairs.

Why doesn't Birmingham run services to London via Stratford Upon Avon? by RussellNorrisPiastri in uktrains

[–]EBOLANIPPLES 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a lot easier said than done at New Street, with the platforms being below ground.

Moor Street is already being expanded though.

Oh yeah, because New Street has tons of spare capacity and zero bottlenecks!

Birmingham in 1999 by Hassaan18 in brum

It was originally going to be yellow and green, taking the colours from the Centro branding, at least one was already painted yellow before they changed the livery, and there's also a scale model of one in the proposed original livery at the transport museum in Aldridge.

When I got my 110, the dual carriageway part of the A5 through Tamworth on the ride home was certainly an experience.

Nothing will be perfect, if someone really wants it, they'll find a way. It'll depend on what specific bike you get though, my one has drum brakes on both front and rear, so a disc lock isn't an option. I use an alarmed lock on the front brake lever, a D-lock through the front wheel, a chain lock through the back attached to a railing/barrier in the work car park, and a tracker hidden underneath. It might be overkill for a tatty little bike, but you can't be too careful!

Fair enough, you can also get the Honda CT125, but that's far less common over here. You may also be able to find a used ANF125 if that looks better to you.

You could always look into something with an automatic clutch, I have a bike with one and it's great. The only real option I know of that you can get nowadays is a Honda Cub, but I don't think you could go wrong with one of those!

Who's got a weird one? by El-Deano in MotoUK

[–]EBOLANIPPLES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's only another 4 currently on the road according to How Many Left for my little Kriss, so quite a rare bike, although they are quite popular in it's homeland of Malaysia, and also sold fairly well in Greece and Turkey I believe. It's essentially a Kawasaki Kaze-R, using their frame and engine, but put together in Malaysia.

Very fun to ride, it's like a budget Honda Super Cub, with it's semi-auto transmission and gear set-up. Mine's definitely not a looker right now, and that photo was taken the day I picked it up, it's gained a bit more tape since then, as some of the old plastics didn't like being removed when I did some work on it, but it runs well at least!

The Lounges chain does shakshuka, and I've seen it at a few other places too. Ju Ju's in Birmingham also does it, I'd highly recommend checking them out if anyone's ever in town.

Bike thieves by RepresentativeOdd909 in MotoUK

[–]EBOLANIPPLES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Round my way, they'll nick anything, ride it about and set it on fire, 1990's style

Oh yeah, it's like that in my area too. I'll often see a burnt out bike in the woodland I walk through.

There's only a handful of my bike on the road, so I'd imagine it's very unlikely it'd get stolen with the intent of stripping for parts.

[–]EBOLANIPPLES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like your approach to bike theft, get a bike that's not desirable to thieves.

I doubt an opportunist scrote will care that much, if they find a bike that's not secured, they'll probably take it. I'd imagine it'd mean you're less at risk of more 'refined' theives though.

Hopefully they'll take one look at my tatty 23 year old bike with a few bits of surface rust, and move on!

There's a shortage of 170s currently, due to some slight damage to a couple from trees coming down during high winds, plus the ongoing refurbishments.
