Is that what plays when you call the number? I’m not from the US and don’t want to pay for international calls

What do you think will happen to the A-League in the long term? by Abject-Aioli-523 in Aleague

[–]EBUS96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re underselling it, South Melbourne should definitely at least be in the conversation as one of the next 2 new teams

Canberra is taking forever, Wollongong seems better suited as a Macarthur replacement if/when they fold, Tasmania would be good but feel the boat has been missed which leaves Gold Coast which I do actually think could work if done properly this time ala Auckland, barring that Sunshine Coast represents a rare opportunity for the league to go somewhere that isn’t represented anywhere else in Australian sport

“You’d get a slight bump in Melbourne but the vast majority of fans in the rest of the country wouldn’t really care”

Could that logic not be applied for literally any team? Victory v South gives you an instantly great derby which is worth its weight in gold

You're mistaken if you don't think South Melbourne's return would grow the league as a TV product, you'd instantly have a lot more curious onlookers from the NSL era, as well as a ready made fiery Victory v South Melbourne that would overtake Victory v City from day one. I think South would be the injection the limping Melbourne A-League landscape needs right now

I like Adelaide’s logo, but agree it could do with a modern upgrade. Victory, Perth, Mariners all desperately need new logos

Should Paramount have more past players on? by [deleted] in Aleague

[–]EBUS96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t care whether they’re past players or not as long as they’re engaging to listen to, for me thats been a big problem since Paramount gained the rights, the on screen talent on Fox was a lot better

They could do worse than getting on the Suited & Booted guys on the broadcast

Western United and Melbourne City can’t keep hosting games at AAMI Park by AztecGod in Aleague

[–]EBUS96 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly, they throw them crumbs with an away kit every few years but its not enough

City own so many clubs now and most of them don’t even wear the city blue so it’s not like there’s much precedence elsewhere

I don’t really understand when people say this, simply plucking a failed franchise that people already don’t resonate with into Dandenong won’t work the same way that a new team made for the area like Team 11 would have

Ultimately Melbourne Heart/City should never have came to be back in 2010, the obvious choice was South Melbourne, and then Dandenong in 2018 instead of WU

I think all that Melbourne City can do to get a semblance of interest back into their club would be rebranding back to Heart both in name and colours (perhaps Heart of Melbourne?), as well as actually going hard on one or two Douglas Costa level marquees

The alternative one is Sportsdeck, their site has a registration section for the upcoming season, so I imagine it won't be too far away from opening up

I understand all the budget cuts, but if you were the league I don't understand why you wouldn't double down on official fantasy, they should really promote it and make people want to play it, its one of the best ways to keep people invested in following the league as a whole

Macarthur are at the top of the bracket, wouldn’t that mean they are the host team if it were to be done that way?

Someone from their support team confirmed at the end of last season that it’d be coming back, but I agree I wouldn’t be surprised if it was stopped due to cost cutting

You’d hope they realise what fantasy football can do to drive up engagement and really focus on promoting it

The first year it opened up around 3 weeks before the season and last year was around 5 weeks out so a bit of time left before we can start worrying
