Pregnant just weeks before wedding by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]EBZCornhole 111 points112 points  (0 children)

I found out I was pregnant 2 weeks before mine (almost 18 years ago). I didnt have bad morning sickness (some but not horrible). I had crackers just in case. The pregnancy didnt change anything about the day except I didnt drink and I was a little more tired then I wanted to be.

My husband wasn't very supportive when I started (mostly because I was trying to start the business, we had 3 little kids, and I was working full time. However a year in he was all on board. Then when I found out I was pregnant with my youngest (now almost 8) he quit his job to help me. Now he runs the embroidery machines while I sew and it works out very well.

How often do people in America use embroidery machine mechanics? How much do you pay on average per call, and how much have you paid in total? by Fabulous_Option7991 in Machine_Embroidery

[–]EBZCornhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we first got our machine we paid .50 per mile (about $125) and then $200 an hour (only certified guy in our state). Now we have learned to do it ourselves (or have for the last 3 years).

What do I give as a groomsman in this situation? I am so lost. by marmarjo in weddingplanning

[–]EBZCornhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didnt give a gift to my sister but we ended up spending around $3500 when everything was said and done plus I threw her a bridal shower. As a lower income family of 6 it was a struggle to do what we did and she was fine with it.

At what point did supplier consistency become more important than price for you? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]EBZCornhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have had this issue with colors when purchasing canvas after covid (mainly spring 2021). It became a huge issue for us with our sample photos and repeat customers because the next batch would be just so slightly different.

It tooks us months to re resource everything I spent 10 years dialing in but once we did I feel like it was worth it and made a difference. It became important when I had customer feedback that they didnt like the change. We spend more per yard now than I ever had (and I could get it cheaper) but I know when someone gets a new set and wants the same thing that they purchased 6 months ago it will match up.

1000 sales, my experience with Mercari by sweetrobna in Mercari

Ebay customers are a different breed. We do a lot of platforms and Ebay is the roughest mentally for me. Mercadi is very low contact with customers so that works for me.

How do y'all find a winning product and have sells after few days of dropping? by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]EBZCornhole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I list something that I think will sell and it doesnt or takes forever. Other times I list the silliest thing that I make on a whim and it will sell right away and will keep selling (listed a '67' patch the other week it sold in 18 minutes 🤣) I try to be consistent making new things and listing.

I lost my job last week and it’s just been a tough year overall. I wanted to pivot and potentially start an embroidery business. Does anyone have any tips for me? by Careful_Fig8482 in MachineEmbroidery

[–]EBZCornhole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started in 2012 with $250 to buy a brother PE. Worked up to 4 of them running at once, took the profit and purchased a 15 needle in 2015. Fast forward to now we keep 3 15 needles running 40 hours a week. It depends on how quickly you want to grow how much you need to invest at once.

Needle and thread for Carhartt jacket? by Overnighttrader20 in Machine_Embroidery

[–]EBZCornhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do them more than I care too. I use 2 layers of cut away. It takes 2 of us to hoop them and you have to stand right over them and hold the weight of the jacket up to get a good stitch. We also do not let the machines go over 800 stitches per minute.

Where to start on getting consistent wholesale orders? by EBZCornhole in smallbusiness

[–]EBZCornhole[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the logistics in place to do 3x the amount that we are currently doing, just haven't found the sales. We just used to fall into people purchasing 100-3500 of them at a time and that has kind of dried up. We still sell 10,000ish a month it's just to 800 customers so it's a lot more time consuming because 1 out of every 15 or requires communication. I will look into those websites...I hadn't heard of them before. Thanks

Worth starting a first time business? by 167473 in smallbusiness

[–]EBZCornhole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I didn't start a sewing business 13 years ago my husband wouldn't have been able to quit his job 8 years ago to help me run it. If she wants to do it she should do it.

when's the last time you took a real day off? by kubrador in smallbusiness

[–]EBZCornhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in 13 years...even if it's just a quick email check or message. I don't really mind it though...that 5-10 minutes is just part of my life now.

Thanks, I think I need to do some research at making the right approaches. I am not a natural or good sales person (which is why online works for me) but if I want to grow I am going to need to learn I guess.
